A good local pub, which I'm pleased to say is having a facelift with new paint to smaten it's exterior! Adrian_S - 26 Jul 2010 16:12 |
This is one of my favourite pubs and although it's just a standard victorian pub without any pretensions it has a nice atmosphere, friendly staff, good beers and food and a great open fire in the winter months (gave shoppers an excuse to gather there when it was snowing). It offers quiz nights and has live music on Saturdays, good value Sunday roasts. Adrian_S - 29 Jun 2010 13:28 |
There are essentially two East Grinsteads town centre-wise the new and the old and there couldnt be more difference. The old area is charming, with many fine old buildings. Having looked at all the options, I considered the Ship, located at the old/new junction to be the best bet and I wasnt disappointed. Either side of the main circulating area are two quality rooms with wood panelling and nice seating, whilst the walls have many fine framed prints. At the time of writing, the weather is very hot and this pub boasts air conditioning but if you prefer outdoors then at the rear is a superb garden with stepped decks on three levels down to a pond which is constantly served by a stream running beneath, with its associated soothing trickling sound. Alewise, its a Youngs house, so expect their beers plus Bombardier and Directors. Alerover - 5 Aug 2008 16:48 |
This is a great local pub. traditional Young's fare, but warm and welcoming staff. Plenty of theme nights to entice the passing public. I was there on a weekend night when Soul Reaction were playing. Enjoyed the music and the evening. anonymous - 9 Nov 2007 13:52 |
I like this pub; it's pretty much the way Young's pubs used to be before they started doing wholesale makeovers (though they used generally to be free of piped music, which I can do without). The service was friendly and efficient, the beer absolutely excellent. As for prices, 2.50 for a pint of Ordinary is, if anything, on the cheap side these days, sad to say (I've more recently been charged elsewhere 3.00 a pint for Harvey's). I'd certainly visit The Ship again if I was in the area. earlydrinker - 23 Sep 2007 18:25 |
