Went in the Peacock on Wednesday 4th January 2011, at around 11.00am it was not busy. We decided to have a 2.19 breakfast. Husband ordered it and we waited.
25 minutes later the chef arrived at our table he practically threw the plates on the table which were cold as was the sausage and the bacon. We asked him to put it right so he took them away and 10 minutes later the same breakfasts arrived (we know this because my husband cut the sausages in half).
The bacon and sausage was now warm but cremated the bacon was like cardboard and the egg was solid the grilled tomato was black. It was all horrible and inedible. By now we had had enough so I wheeled myself to the bar (I am a terminally ill cancer patient who cannot walk) where the manager was standing. I asked if he was the manager and could we speak to him at our table. He immediately got stroppy and accused me of being aggressive. He said he would deal with it in a minute, when he came over to the table he refused to give us his name or the name of the brewery who owned the pub. He said that it is a free house and the owners name is above the door we were to look at that on the way out.
He did not want to listen to our opinion he was clearly not someone who liked to be criticized and had no customer liaison skills.
He claimed that all of his food is cooked on a griddle that is why the tomatoes and the rest of the breakfast was black and burnt?. My husband pointed that having been in the army for 33 years this is not the way to cook a breakfast. His reply to this was 'well you are not in the army now'! He was the most impolite, uncompromising and not very presentable manager of a public house we have ever had the misfortune to meet. He was not prepared to listen to our complaint and used his power as manager to ask us to leave not before my husband demanded a refund for the breakfasts which he did give us. He then told us never to come to his pub again and escorted us to the door, me a lady in a wheelchair!! Needless to say it is a place to avoid. The whole experience upset me greatly we do not go out much in fact we had been to the hospital in Kettering and just wanted a quiet drink and food.

My mother and I stopped off for a well earned drink and meal, and what a surprise was in store for us!! When we entered the pub it was a busy Saturday afternoon we ordered two meals and a bottle of wine and had change from 20!! The food was delivered to our table very promptly and was superb. Even though it was very busy pub it was very clean as observed by my fussy mother. A thumbs up to the staff at the Peacock. We wll return.

This has got to be the worse place i have ever visited! I went with my 2 sisters 1 of which is heavily preganant the other had her baby with her... we walked in and asked if it was ok to have children inside and they said yes as long as you order food... while we was takin a look at the menu the lady asked if we was ordering or not.... (give us a chance SHEESH) once our food had arrived my sister had an extra bowl of chips (which she did not order and was charged for) so we called the lady over and said we had not ordered them... her reply was... well you would have been charged so we said well can you refund us please we dont want them... she came back saying please dont shoot the messenger but the manager said no... so my heavily pregnant sister went to speak to him... next thing you know he slamming the chips onto the bar shouting at her... he then comes around from the bar and gets rite in her face... so i jump to my feet and get a facefull of abuse also! THIS PLACE IS DISGUSTIN! customer service is appauling and the food is NOT nice either! new managment is NEEDED!!!!!

I second that! The food is indeed revolting! God knows what processes are involved in 'cooking' it!

I am absolutely flabbergasted at ema1259's comment!! I can only assume this is from someone who works at the pub. In my opinion the food is revolting! Indeed it is very cheap,.. but its certainly a case of 'you get what you pay for!!'
And i honestly have to say i've never been served by a member of this 'welcoming staff'...?! They do their job, but nothing above or beyond!
I cannot understand why anyone would choose to go here, especially during the day!!! i'm yet to witness 'pleasant comfortable surroundings'!

The pub gets busy on saturday nights, they have a live dj and dancefloor area,.. and a big space outside for the smokers, not my kind of place but i can certainly see how this would appeal to a younger clientele,.. the doors ALWAYS have a heavy presence of bouncers. I've never seen any trouble here, and the bouncers have always been polite and respectful

Having had a very good meal there the last time i had to visit Kettering a few months ago, I returned again this week.
The Peacock is consistantly good. The staff have always been friendly & helpfull. The food must offer the best value for money in Northampton in it's range.
The new point of sale ordering system meant the food arrived in no time at all and as in the past it was fresh, hot and plentiful.
I had one of the 2.95 specials 'Steak & Ale pie'. I'd had it previously and it didn't dissapoint this time either. It was packed full of lovely slow cooked steak & topped with a tasty suet pastry. It was served with mashed potatoes and peas. ( other 2.95 options are sausages & mash with onion gravy mash & peas, Lasagne ( vegie versions of both availabe)and 8oz gammon steak, chips & peas)
My son had the 'Ultimate Burger' When it came i was sure he'd need a doggy bag. It was massive! 2 very large THICK burgers( looked much bigger than any 1/4 pounder i've ever seen) on a bed of slices tomato, topped with a mountain of fried onions, bacon, melted cheese & topped with onion rings. Served with side salad & chips all for the bargain price of 5.25 made the infamous 'Whopper' look like a Wimper !
We'd ordered a sweet (before realising we wouldn't have room for it - we had to have a rest before having it). We ordered the bread & butter pudding with ice cream @ 2.75. It didn't have as many rasins as a home made one, but tasted way better than any i've had either at home or in restaurants! it had a buttery, creamy soft centre with a lovely crisp top.
In the past my son has had the chocolate puddle pudding which was just as good.
I finished my meal with a lovely cappuchino coffee in a big cup generously topped with chocolate as good as any from the leading coffee chains but probably at less than 1/2 the cost @ just 79p.
The Peacock offer many other equally good value meals including breakfasts from 1.95 all served by welcoming staff in pleasant comfortable surroundings. Ideal for a quick snack or coffee while shopping but once youve had lunch there you'll want to go back !
