A standard Wetherspoons so no surprises. Apart from Doom Bore and the usual Greene King dross there were only two other ales on, Milestone Comet a hoppy golden ale at 4.2% and Wychwood Bah Humbug a darker slightly spiced festive offering at 4.3%. To be fair both were in very good condition and at £1.99 per pint each exceedingly good value. Nothing here to get excited about but equally nothing offputting.

The Falcon is the nicer of the two Wetherspoons in High Wycombe. This one is located in the main shopping area and is slightly larger than the William Robert Loosley. Ales were Loddon Ferryman's Gold, Windsor & Eton Kohinoor IPA & Canberra, Ringwood Old Thumper, Binghams Twyford Tipple, Sharps Doom Bar, Ruddles Best & Greene King Abbot. This branch had no real cider either. But the big problem here was service. Whilst there were 2 people stood doing nothing in the William Robert Loosley, the one barman here was absolutely rushed off his feet. As I left, he had about 10-15 people waiting to be served, with people ordering coffees and breakfasts. I went across the road to the Red Squirrel Brewery Shop Emporium where there were more staff than customers. But at least there was a far better range of beers and ciders. I'm sure this place will be added in due course. But it was a far better choice than either of the Wetherspoons.

On Monday 27th June I got the bus to High Wycombe and then I walked to The Falcon and I went up to the bar and I was served by Emma and I ordered apple pie with ice cream and a tea and I went and sat by the window and when my food came I ate it and watched all the chavvy people in tracksuits walking up and down the high street and The Falcon is a big pub with lots of tables to choose from and I will return next time I go to High Wycombe

Looks like ArsenalFan36 is back ....

Today Thursday 5th May I got the train to High Wycombe and when I got there I walked to the Falcon and I went up to the counter and Mark served me and I ordered pancakes and syrup and 1 large Apple Juice and I went and sat at table 7 and I watched Mark bring people their food while I had my breakfast and the Falcon is a very big pub with lots of tables to choose from and I will return next time I go to the Falcon

usual wetherspoons type pub in the market area.not many festival beers on,had fair pint of hook Norton old hookey.and good pint of bath, phophecy from the festival list.

Asked the lady in the hotel where to eat. She asked what sort of food and when I said a pub meal - the only recommendation was the Falcon. It was packed full of people eating. And very busy with drinkers.
You know what you are getting in a spoons.

Probably the best pub in HW for real ale served from a well managed cellar with clean pipes and no silly Muzak! Best to order a quart if you want a pint! Quite how they keep the Cask 'Marque with short measures is difficult to fathom out. To be fair there is no resistance to a top up whatsoever. An oasis in a town of hardly any outlets for acceptable real ale.

What you would expect froma Spoons pub. Went in for a breakfast (which was very nice) at 10am to find the locals already finsihing up their pints. It looked like they would be not leaving the pub for the remainder of the day. The floor infront of the bar was sticky. There are much better pubs (like The Bootlegger) to go to whilst in Wycombe. Interesting member of staff who walked around looking like a Mexican bandit though.

Not an inspiring place to visit. Clientel on my visit seemed to have had enough to drink already. Tried RCH - Sleigh Steam and Nelson - Powder Monkey on my visit. Both average.

I have lived in Wycombe for 8 years. This place needed a spruce up when I first came here back then. Now it desperately needs one. It stinks. Is rammed full of students and alcoholics on a weekend and has a very tense atmosphere. The carpets are awful, the tables scratched, stained etc and even the toilets (Which wetherspoons supposedly pride themselves on?) are absolutely hideous. I think if the company just invested a little bit of cash in this place it would gain more custom and in turn make more money. As it is, the same people will continue to drink in there and as such I wont be.

It's just a typical Wetherspoons!
|
Nice pub, very cheap drink as you expect in Wetherspoons. Great place to pop in during the day or to start off a night out. Service is a bit slow as they always seem very short staffed however what can you expect at those prices I suppose!!

This is one of the few Wetherspoons that was an original pub before being spoonified. There has been an Inn on this site since the 17th Century and if my memory serves me correctly was called the Falcon when I worked in Wycombe in the late 80s. This means that it has a bit more character than the traditional barn conversions or new stainless steel and glass builds that a lot of the spoons are, and benefits from a wooden interior with plenty of alcove seating areas. However have to concur with the reviewers below that it is a bit grubby and in need of a bit of TLC and there was definitely a stale odour apparent on entering on Saturday lunchtime. But the beers were good, 9 handpumps dispensing a real cider as well as Loddon Beers from the Oxford Brewer, and the couple of Loddon Ales I tried were very good.
|
Pub is certainly shabby -- Wetherspoons need to spend a lot of money on smartening the place up -- particularly the stairway to the toilets. Staffing is generally on the low side so they can be overwhelmed by relatively small numbers of customers -- nevertheless they tend to be efficient and friendly.
There are a lot of dodgy looking people in here -- plus loads of students, especially on a Friday evening but I've never seen any trouble.
The beer can be a bit hit and miss but is often superb. The Thornbridge Pioneer (a real ale they brewed for Wetherspoons 30th anniversary) was spectacularly good and ridiculously cheap at 1.79 a pint.
Wetherspoons take a lot of stick from CAMRA types but, if it's the beer that counts most, then this pub beats most of the local competition.
|
There's a high price to be paid for low prices. 1.89 for a fairly decent pint of a Loddon ale, the Bimbo that served me was fairly inept. A very shabby pub that needs a refurbishment But oh the Chavs, the Chavs! If only they could be refurbished. I suspect this is one of those places that is busy at 3pm on a Monday.
|
My Loddon ale was good, place was tidy, black bloke behind the bar was civil.
|
Its just smelly and grim with people lining up to spend there benifit money. Not bothered about choice or price when the place is like that.

full of local down and outs spending their latest dole cheque

Came in here after an unimpressed lunchtime visit to the Bell, & thought this was one of the best Wetherspoons I'd been in for a long time. Excellent choice & quality of beer, friendly & helpful staff, decent food, nice warm atmosphere - I could have stayed all afternoon.
|
The service in this place is terrible and has been for many years, so much so thatI have felt compelled to complain to wetherspoons about it on two occasions. The staff always seem disinterested and never seem to serve people on a first come first served basis.

Gets really busy on weekends, and the barstaff don't seem to have been trained to cope when a dozen or so people are waiting to be served.
Real ale is usually spot on, but they don't seem to do as many guest ales these days, and when they do, they invariably run out when I fancy a try!
Typical Wetherspoons pub. Cheap beer, cheap food.

I went back to this pub again last night after a period of a few months without a visit. As it's August most of the students are away and the place was reasonably empty (i.e. you could find a place to sit). Service at the bar was as a consequence not too bad, although IMHO there should still be more bar staff. An acceptable pint of Rev James (Brains). Some numbwit has had the bright idea of installing a big TV over the fireplace at the back of the pub. Thank the lord the sound was turned off.

Crap staff seem uninterested in actually serving anyone. Beer OK if you can get one. A friend of mine complained about having to wait so long to get served and the barman said "F*** off you c***". Says it all, really.
|
I have to disagree and say that this is one of the better Wetherspoons. A good range of real ale although it's often too cold or in bad condition. Food is poor also, full of the Waynes and Kevins of this world. Oh well, maybe I don't like it that much after all.
|
I like wetherspoon pubs generally, they keep the drinks well priced, are warm, clean, proffesional so what the f#*$ happened here.It started of ok then the staff developed an attitude, the pissy tramps discovered it and cleanliness packed its bags and ran off.
|
should be voted the worst pub in wycombe bad everything from managers to food to staff you name it, it's BAD
|
A Very rough chav pub.staff very rude.

It sucks!!! Rude crap staff... Food is poor if they actually have what you want!!! i'd rather pay a bit more and go to the hogs head
|
Great for cheap drinks, nice staff but always too packed. And Andrew is right daytime equals tipsy old men.

Got asked to leave recently, before even being served! Smelly place, frequented by the dregs of life.
|
Went here just after it first opened I think, in '94, sounds like it got worse! Used to have Sunday lunch quite alot, never had a rough time here, always a good place to meet before going to the BCSU bar or also what used to be known as Club Eden(Time).
