Completely disagree with previous post ... extremely welcoming staff and atmosphere. Great location and tasty food.

If you want to award 10/10 for miserable bar staff, this is the place. A sunny, not-too-busy lunchtime in July, no customers at the bar, yet one of the most hostile and unpleasant receptions my wife and I have ever experienced. Not replying to "Hello" is one thing. Grunting and complaining about having to work there, while pouring short-measure pints is another. Beer is expensive - very expensive for Exeter. Food equally so - they're arrogant enough to leave any pence off the blackboard: it's all in rounded-off pounds. The interior is pretty charmless, but nothing like as bad as the guy pulling pints (or, rather, poor impressions of them). Avoid. Stay in the centre.

Heavitree pub offering Exmoor Gold, Otter, Dartmoor's Jail Ale and St Austell's Tribute. Nice place to sit outside yesterday in the sun.
|
Nice location on Exeter's overated quay. Beer expensive and food was average. 7/10 just because you can people watch while sitting outside.

We had a really good lunch here. I agree about the pie - it was excellent and well supported by the two pints of Tribute! The staff were friendly and the service good. Very quiet even for a rainy Friday but my impression is that the place comes to life in the evenings when there is live entertainment. Spot on!!

Was in there on a Monday lunchtime and the food was excellent. Best Steak & Ale pie I have had in years and the wifes Quiche was great apparently. Friendly staff as well. Keep it up guys.

I didn't think much to this pub when I first started going to Exeter, but we went in here recently with some friends and I thought that it had improved greatly. I had one of the best pints of Otter Ale that I've had for a long while and the place had a good atmosphere. Will give it another try next time we're down.

Superb location on the Quay. Had lunch with Shandy Chica. Food was reasonable and well cooked. Friendly staff and a decent pint. Live music some evenings. So probably something for everyone. Will definatly visit again.

Nice location on the riverside. It was a grim day when we visited so liked the raised eating area which enabled us to enjoy the view without getting wet.

A great situation for a pub. Food was fairly run of the mill, standard deep fried and microwave stuff. Service was adequate; no more. they seem to go for the student / youth market in the evening which is a shame. With a bit of effort this could be a great pub rather than just ordinary

Beermeup is thingking of the Waterfront - about 200 yds away from the prospect. Prospect beer could do with some work to bring it up to scratch.

'Beermeup' if you can reach boaters on the river from a table outside the 'Prospect Inn' you have a fine bowling arm! Have you got the right pub..? It must be 100yds from the actual river. Monty Panesar watch out..!! I love the Quayside at Exeter, its Englands' Riviera! Fantastic on a sunny day. Lots of people about, drinking in the bars & cafes, or sampling locally caught fish, or browsing in the many splendid craft & restored furniture shops, hidden in old boathouses along the quay! The Prospect Inn is a 'jewel' along here, a good find well away from the town centre, where you can relax with a meal or a pint, and you can lob your cares in the River Exe.. if your bowling arm is up to it!! Luvvit to bits! (It was a shame we had to return to London! Maybe I'll emigrate to Exeter one of these days! It would be worth it. You see for yourself, prospect if you dare! Once sampled, beware, all other locations may seem pale & dry!!) 10/10 ! TJ

Is this the one that does the supersize pizzas? I think it is. Disappointing range of beer compared to some of the pubs in Exeter but the location and opportunity for throwing things at people rowing by on the river more than made up for it.

V good steak sandwich and generally good service given that it was a heaving summer weekend. Nice to sit outside and watch the world go by

Excellent ale and grub! Friendly, helpful staff who apologised profusely because they were busy and food orders were taking five minutes longer than usual.
With all the pretty young things in the bar and out on the waterfront, I really did not notice the lack of barmaids.
Great pub, shame I live so far away.

very good food, and the beer isn`t bad either! A well managed pub with friendly staff...although it could have more females behind the bar, and the pub could do with air conditioning.
