From The Sh*tter Hut website
"Sunday 13th September 2009 seems like such a long time ago now when our beloved Sugar Hut Village suffered a major fire. But the good news is that the builders are making good progress and from the ashes will rise THE No.1 clubbing experience in the south of England. "
What a shame, what a scandal. Why does this sort of business need a place like this. It's not as if its customers care where they go as long as they can indulge in whatever vile, deluded fantasy this chain sells them.
It looks like Brentwood is doomed to remain the laughing-stock, chav-magnet of the South East and wait for a generation before it recovers its one real asset, that lovely pub.
|
Still closed and boarded due to the fire.
|
Please let someone open this up as a pub again so people can sit in the lovely courtyard in the afternoon and use it for functions. God knows what is left of it inside. I can't imagine the Sugar Hut guttersnipes have treated it even as well as the TJs crowd did.

The Sugar Hut chain is no more apparently they are in receivership.
|
I remember when it was a proper pub I just hope the 500 year old building is not too damaged.
|
In these dark and worrying times with recession and war besetting us on all sides a little snippet of good news can appreciably brighten up the day.
Apparently The Sugar Hut Village has burned down.

very over priced. very poor service, terrible food. --Never again
|
Overpriced, poncy, tacky, vile staff, vile clientelle, pompous and home to Jodie Marsh.
Nuff said
|
We all hated our trip here and couldn't get out quickly enough to laugh about it and shake-off its commically moody atmosphere. It's truly ridiculously tacky in every sense and it could quite easily be the subject of a p**s-taking TV 'mockumentary'.

The most over rated drinking establishment I have ever known, If you turned the lights on, you would get a better opinion. Very expensive, or seems to be, for very below average goods.
|
Sugar Hut Village is terrible. The food was extermley overpriced and wasn't very good at all. Drinks are even more overpriced. At times the staff were rude and very pushy. Decor is very dark and dingy, especially in the bar. Avoid Sugar Hut Village like the plague if you are after a nice meal out. People that go here obviously have more money than sense. Hated every minute of it.

I haven't read anything on The Sugar Hut to entice me in. Up until now I have been put off by the exterior. Apart from having in my opinion a daft name for an Essex pub, the outside of the building looks more like the Adams Family house. The walls lok grubby and the curtains dark and creepy, as you walk past there's the expectation of Dracula peering out at you. Several attempts at plants and trees in the doorway are never looked after, just adding to the wrong end of town look.

Over 7 quid for a single G&T?? I'm not exactly tight, but does that seem a touch excessive to anyone else?? You can get decent value food when toptable do a 50% offer though. Generally it was designed for people with wallets larger than their brains.

Awful, overpriced - and a surprise that it was ever allowed!! That said, it's always packed so they obviously did their market research and correctly identified that what Brentwood lacked was an overpriced, dingy, O.T.T. venue with an over-complicated structure of "zones". Which I have to say is more of a reflection on the people of Brentwood (of whom I am one) than the SHV itself!! Shame on us. Bring back the White Hart.

Bizarre Thai theme pub allegedly having had a fortune spent on it. An attempt to make itself exclusive has limited its appeal to people from out of town who don't know better & who'll fork out 6 for a bottle of beer & try not feel like they're being treated as mugs! Worth a visit just to see the decor and (poor) bouncers some of whom the management have tried to make look inconspicuous by making them wear ridiculous collarless Thai outfits & Bluetooth headsets. The latter spend most of their time wandering around appearing to talk to themselves & look busy & the atmosphere is far from comfortable as it feels like you're surrounded by baddies from a Bond movie. If this pub doesn't close down or rebrand itself within a year it will be a miracle.

This is a rather changed pub since the new rediculous name was invented. Better pubs elsewhere and cheaper too. Typical downcasting the area with naff naff names and trying to establish upper crust patrons. Suppose they want Jody March to go in a wiggle her attributes at the priapic youth; no thanks

Is a tad overpriced. May stick out a bit, but is better than the identikit chain bars like the Slug. Loads of comfy sofas and stuff.
|
Renamed the Sugar Hut Village. Got a Thai thing going on. Over priced and sticks out like a sore thumb. I'm surprised how popular it's become as most people in Brentwood wouldn't know where Thailand was on a map of Thailand.

popped in at lunchtime today... good food, great service and even better waitresses!

Just been done up (some new chairs and a few candles here and there). Quite smart. Cool courtyard, if a little cramped on the weekend. Worth a visit.
