All boarded up. Another dead pub. rip.

Proper Scottish pub (dissapointed at the lack of Scottish beer though - would have at least liked a pint of Tennent's!).

When, at the wedding at Cana of Galilee, the historical Jesus performed his generally-agreed first miracle, turning water into wine*, it was as if the good Lord himself writ the imprimatur and nihil obstat upon the encyclical regarding pleasant drinking and conversation. With such celestial approval, it is no surprise that, upon the corner of the equally celestial Star Street and Sale Place, I have found a pub of heavenly conversation and well-served liquor: the Rob Roy. Just as great respect was shown to the wedding-guests two thousand years ago by leaving the best wine until last, one may travel as a stranger around many anonymous pubs, where the staff might as well wear grey identical masks, before finding, at last, the character of the clientle and honesty of conversation which reward one's staying until the end, whether it be bitter or mild. In the same way as the translator of the Nuptial Elements was given both to gentleness and robust conversation, the same may be found in the Rob Roy (especially when a Scottish or Northern side are succeeding less effusively than a London side in the same match): but my every departure has been with memories of good nature, and excellent service, and the hope to return. The coffee, by the way, can be of legendary strength, suitable for all cold mornings and nights.

Play your part, and the Rob Roy brings ample reward.

"Lively" = Disturbing the residents.

Retreated to this pub from the cramped and over-crowded Royal Exchange last night. It's pretty basic but the beer was a lot better than in the RE, the bar staff were friendly and the atmosphere was lively. They've also got a good selection of Scottish football memorabilia.

Definitely not one for the family. Swearing, shouting drunks particularly at the weekend. Big sign saying respect residents - which of course nobody takes any notice of and is not enforced by staff. Pity, as it's quite a nice pub but clearly no management lead in managing loud drunks. (I thought it was illegal to supply drunks with more booze).

i am not Scottish nor militant so there is no reason i'd choose this pub over some of the less shabby pubs around Paddington. having said that i did pop in recently with friends from Glasgow. the beer was disappointing, service compotent, clientele noisy drunks.
i paid for a round with a 20 note which the barman pointedly checked for its validity and was given back six pound coins (each and every coin was a counterfeit).t).

One more thing: the place really could do with a spruce-up. The seats were ripped and tatty, and the toilets left a lot to be desired. Again, check out the bogs in the Royal Exchange to see that a London boozer's khazi doesn't have to actually look like a sh*thole.

Re-visited on a sunny saturday evening, and the place was very quiet (almost dead). Friendly bar staff, but the Deuchars was pretty ropey (is this an easy thing to achieve?!). Will probably pop in again, but will always prefer the Royal Exchange across the road.

Great traditional friendly pub. Under new management no longer an Aberdeen pub. Is a good neutrals bar watched St Mirren game there, had a great time with brilliant friendly staff. My only disappoint was not being able to make it back before leaving London.

The Rob Roy, one of London's few (I think possibly ONLY) remaining Scottish pub, has undergone a huge transformation since the new management took over sometime in late 2009. The place is genuinely Scottish (the bar was being propped up with a load of funny Scots guys and gals) and genuinely friendly (the manager keeps the jokes and banter flowing), it was busy and bustling when I visited for the 6 Nations rugby matches last Saturday.
A nice big Scotland flag hangs proudly in the corner, while classic Scotland football memorabilia, a Scottish lion rampant scarf, and old pubs signs from Edinburgh and Glasgow breweries adorn the rest of the main bar area giving the pub a genuine 'home from home' character for London-based Scots and the Scottish diaspora. But other nationalities were made more than welcome too on my last visit there.
They pour a nice pint of Guiness, while the north of the border nod comes in the form of Deuchars IPA, which is always welcome too.
Definitely recommended, and when Scotland are playing at football or rugby it's the only place in the Capital to be!

Revisited this pub after 3 years away, and have to say I was pleasantly surprised. It's under new management, and the new staff are courteous and very welcoming. Lots of Scots characters in here, but all were amiable and welcoming to all nationalities. Can be a bit raucous with the football on, but all adds to a great sociable evening. Food was excellent, traditional pub fayre, with a hint of the Scottish, and all at reasonable prices. I'm glad I tried this pub again, the new folk here have made a lasting impression. Will definitely frequent this place more often now. Well done Loch!

Large roomed pub adorned with lots of Scottish and Aberdeen football items.
The bar staff were very friendly - the beer choice fairly poor (Courage or Caledonian IPA), but kept in good condition.
Fairly empty on my midweek visit, but not a bad pub despite this.

This pub is akin to the current Scottish football team - going nowhere. It purports to sport a Scottish theme but much of the memorabilia (like this pub) look seriously ancient and well past their sell-by date. Dalglish is quite correct with his/her comments. I have seen more life in a graveyard at 2.00am in the morning than existed in this pub at 10.00pm the other evening.

A scottish theme pub!!
Characterless, soulless place selling dodgy lager. The Royal Exchange acroos the road is a much better option.

Not sure I'd seen a Scottish pub in London before. A fairly unexceptional interior albeit quite a good collection of Scottish memorabilia on the walls. Deuchars IPA and (less Scottishly) 6X on the pumps: bog standard pub food with "Highland stew" the only nod north of the border.
grecian - 14 Jul 2008 11:16
An essential visit when Aberdeen or Scotland are playing but nothing special otherwise. It's always a treat to find a Deuchars IPA (the only IPA worth drinking!) in London, and it and the 6X which accompanies it always seem to be well kept.

The food is average pub grub, fairly priced.

Basically if you're an Aberdeen and/or Scotland fan looking for somewhere in town to watch the footie, you could do a lot worse, although it gets HEAVING for the internationals.

Stand free!

a very good pub friendly and stock a good range of drinks slightly spoiled when there is football on tv but unfortunately that seams to be the norm now

without doubt this is the finest pub in all of london town. The staff are sooo friendly that they make you never want to leave, they sell Bulmers (mmmm, my favourite) and the scoff is so fine. Friday nights really rock and they have shown every celtic champions league game (even though it is an Aberdeen pub).
Be warned though, they get really busy when scotland play!
well worth losing yourself for a couple of hours
madmax73 - 20 Nov 2007 13:42
Great for watching the Scotland games, but best avoided the rest of the time. Distinctly average food, poor selection of beer and a complete lack of character. There are many many more interesting pubs in the area than this one!

OK pub,worth a visit.
w2man - 19 Aug 2006 22:06
Decent ale and service, nice atmosphere.
anonymous - 1 Jun 2006 00:56
Good food, good ale, good jukebox, good barstaff. Very busy early evening though.
Ollie Reed - 30 Aug 2004 16:31
Not bad - but no longer any decent beers - all they had was courage best, and 'calders cream ale'. What happened to the bottles of 80' and 90'?

pete - 30 Apr 2004 12:02
A little bit of Scotland in the heart of Sassenach country. The place is absolutely bouncing when Scotland or Aberdeen are on the TV. Visit then.

A pretty decent pub. Good food, decor etc. Slightly miserable bar staff though
