Having spent a few idle hours in Seaford, sunning myself on the beach, it was time for a couple of refreshments. I drifted in to the Wellington Hotel, tempted by the outside wall's offer of '10 real ales'..
Bearing in mind that it was nearly 7pm on a Friday, the place was fairly full and seating was at a premium. However the ten real ales were on offer, and the selection was good: Timothy Taylor Landlord, Hopback Summer Lightning, etc.
It took a while to be served, but the ladies behind the bar 'read' the waiting crowd well, and the thirsty customers were served in correct order. Service was pleasant and courteous.
I ordered a Summer Lightning--a beer I know well- and was very satisfied: a brimming full pint, fresh and well-cellared. Absolutely spot-on.
The clientele were typically middle-aged, affluent types, but it was a pleasant atmosphere. This is not the place for you if you want to get off your head with a group of 18-year-olds before heading our for a night's clubbing but for me it was great.
Unfortunately my time ran out after my third Lightning and I had to head to the station to return to London, but I really enjoyed my time here.
Will I return to the Wellington on my next trip to Seaford--absolutely!

Don't know why I haven't rated this pub before cos it was always our top favourite in Seaford when we were pretty regular, about 30-35 years ago. Now ? Yes, it has ten real ales and the three we tried were in pretty good nick. Generally agree with Sussexcrawler, it just doesn't have anything like the atmosphere it used to. Still definitely worth a visit though, may still be the best in Seaford ... ???

Excellent pub serving 10 beers all in good condition look forward to my next visit
Visited for the first time one lunchtime this week and it was very quiet and lacked any atmosphere. It was very clean and the staff were friendly and efficient and there was an excellent range of beers, including Long Man and Dark Star. All those I tried were in top condition. Presumably does get busy, otherwise they couldn't keep so many beers on tap. Overall a pleasant visit but for atmosphere (at least during lunchtime) I prefer the Old Plough. Will try to go back one evening when it is hopefully busier.

Wellington still the best of the Seahaven bunch. Range and variety of ales has to be commended. Staff always polite and efficient. Well done
Nice pub, warm and welcoming, but a bit on the expensive side.
Visited again several time recently and on the strength of its wide range of real ales (10) including often 4 Dark Star options up my rating. Far and away the best choice of ale in Seaford/Newhaven area. Still has limited seating at busy times, but a quiet corner can usually be sought out.

Picked this one out as the number one target when meeting up with recently-moved family in Seaford based on recent comments here and was not disappointed. An excellent ten beers on including as mentioned a good selection from Dark Star. Beer seemed well kept. Thoughtful selection of bottles (eg Thatchers perry / pear cider) for those wanting something different. Food was good quality and fairly priced. Two public bar areas, both of which were surprisingly quiet (early afternoon Saturday).

We stayed there for one night a couple of weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. The dinner was fine and the next time we're going to cook our own steaks regardless of what some people have commented, it's a great idea and the regulars use it and so will we. The rooms have all you will get in a four star hotel and the breakfasts are superb. Couldn't fault it except for one waitress/bar maid who was fine but could have smiled a little more- everyone else was cool and welcoming.

Visited the Wellington for the first time in october and was blown away by the fact that they now have 10 real ales !!!!! and 4 being Dark Star ales, these are regular too. will definitely be visting again very soon.

An enjoyable pub, and well-run. But why no Harvey's?
Good atmosphere and friendly service. Always a good range of (4-5) ales and fairly well kept. Good place to go with a few friends, but not easy to get a quiet seat on your own.
Sorry to hear the landlord, Graham died recently. Hope the pub keeps going though.

Went back here on Sunday to get out of the rain. Its been done up and looks pretty good. Still the same 3 beers, Abbot, IPA and Olde Trip on the go plus 2 guests. Looks like they are feeling the pinch a bit, they now have a loyalty card programme like the chippy round the corner. The place has gone Aussie, even the wine list is virtually all Aussie and there is a dirty big tree fern in the eating room. The food seems to be a 'cook it yourself' thing, I guess its the town equivalent of a beach barbie. One of the most expensive pubs in the town! So glad it was only a short shower.
This is a pub on the up!!!. Well run with a nice grown up vibe. It seems to have thrown off the usual Greene King blandness and manages to sell a few reasonable guest ales.
By far the best choice of wines in Seaford if that's your bag.... they even have a wine list

this is a nice change to visit a quite little seaside town near the coast and find a wealth of charm and friendly service there. The pub is very clean allowing people who like the finer things in life to come for a meal and a drink in a clean environment. Well deserves a visit if you are in the area.

Had a couple of duff pints lately. Some of the staff seem to have disappeared too and the service wasn't too attentive last time I was there. Its not the same as it was a few months back and I don't go in as much as I used to. I've been gravitating to the Cinque Ports instead and noticed quite a few folks that I used to see in the Welly are now here also. Sad to see a pub lose its charm and reputation as far as my custom is concerned. So easy to lose customers, so hard to get 'em back.

Been in several times since the re-furb. Always seem to gravitate to this pub. Had a nice walk along the prom on Sunday morning and ended up for a pre-lunch pint in the Welly again. Yes its still clean, yes its still friendly, yes the staff are very attentive yes they had 6 good real ales on and now they have installed a grand piano in the main bar too. Bloke (Dennis) tinkling the ivories was seemed quite good to me and would probably got better too had I stayed for a few more. Do like this pub and the St Austell Tribute is a bonus in my opinion.
As stated before this is a Greene King pub and therefore they have to sell IPA & Abbott. The best thing is that they sell Dark Star Hophead as a regular ale which is a great bonus. This pub is clean and tidy and the staff are friendly enough. Been in a couple of times midwek and everybody has been in the smaller bar watching the Sky football leaving the main bar virtually empty. It seems to lack a bit of atmosphere but this maybe because it was a bit quiet.
Currently closed for a re-furbishment. Hope they don't take too long!
Def a locals pub. I've just moved into the area and was made very welcome. Seems they always have a rotating selection of 5 decent real ales and sometimes even 6. Never had a duff pint yet and they do seem to fill the glass here too. Looking forward to becoming a local.
The half dozen or so pump clips looked promising when I peered in the window (not being local) so I went inside. Enjoyed a pint from the Wickwar Brewery in pleasant surroundings although I was the youngest customer in the establishment by a country mile. Friendly atmosphere though, despite my being an obvious stranger, and the regulars were getting stuck into the good choice of real ale on offer.. It was a shame the kitchen was closed or I would probably have stayed for another pint and something to eat. However, the Tuck-Inn caf down the road served me well with an all-day breakfast.
Harveys gone when I was in there. Only IPA and a "guest beer" which tasted surprisingly like IPA.
Beware!! It is strongly rumoured down here in Lewes that Greene King are trying to remove Harvey's from the six remaining former Beard's pubs which they own. This, the Lewes Arms and the Red Lion in Bromley are three of them - I don't know which the other three are. We have a petition going in the Lewes Arms. If one of these pubs is your local and you want Harvey's to remain, you may wish to do the same.
Only regular Greene King fare plus Harvey's on offer on my last visit. There always used to be another guest beer. The atmosphere seems to have improved. There is a separate no smoking lounge.
not the best pub in the world but for a quiet drink it ok. New people have taken over to so lets see what happens
Best pub in sunny Seaford, at least IMHO. A good atmosphere most evenings with a mix of slightly seedy regulars (gets smokey in the evenings) and occasional drinkers. Well seperated public and saloon bars, the former often the hang-out of the rugby club, with sports on TV. Comfy salon bar has basic but cheap bar-food (burgers are good). Friendly bar staff and landlord. Beers are well kept - Harveys is always excellent, and usually have one or two guest beers on.

We called early Sunday evening when public bar was fairly quiet and comfortable lounge completely empty. Has about 6 handpumps but the choice was dissappointing being mostly Greene King plus Harveys (ubiquitous) and Wychwood (unappealing). Settled for a well kept pint of the Harveys
