Having spent a few idle hours in Seaford, sunning myself on the beach, it was time for a couple of refreshments. I drifted in to the Wellington Hotel, tempted by the outside wall's offer of '10 real ales'.. Bearing in mind that it was nearly 7pm on a Friday, the place was fairly full and seating was at a premium. However the ten real ales were on offer, and the selection was good: Timothy Taylor Landlord, Hopback Summer Lightning, etc. It took a while to be served, but the ladies behind the bar 'read' the waiting crowd well, and the thirsty customers were served in correct order. Service was pleasant and courteous. I ordered a Summer Lightning--a beer I know well- and was very satisfied: a brimming full pint, fresh and well-cellared. Absolutely spot-on. The clientele were typically middle-aged, affluent types, but it was a pleasant atmosphere. This is not the place for you if you want to get off your head with a group of 18-year-olds before heading our for a night's clubbing but for me it was great. Unfortunately my time ran out after my third Lightning and I had to head to the station to return to London, but I really enjoyed my time here. Will I return to the Wellington on my next trip to Seaford--absolutely! DavidCL - 5 Oct 2015 17:45 |
Don't know why I haven't rated this pub before cos it was always our top favourite in Seaford when we were pretty regular, about 30-35 years ago. Now ? Yes, it has ten real ales and the three we tried were in pretty good nick. Generally agree with Sussexcrawler, it just doesn't have anything like the atmosphere it used to. Still definitely worth a visit though, may still be the best in Seaford ... ??? davercox - 20 Sep 2013 17:47 |

Visited for the first time one lunchtime this week and it was very quiet and lacked any atmosphere. It was very clean and the staff were friendly and efficient and there was an excellent range of beers, including Long Man and Dark Star. All those I tried were in top condition. Presumably does get busy, otherwise they couldn't keep so many beers on tap. Overall a pleasant visit but for atmosphere (at least during lunchtime) I prefer the Old Plough. Will try to go back one evening when it is hopefully busier. Sussexcrawler - 2 Aug 2012 07:24 |
Wellington still the best of the Seahaven bunch. Range and variety of ales has to be commended. Staff always polite and efficient. Well done ParsonDarby - 16 Jun 2012 20:11 |
