Horsham is pretty dreadful town when it comes to finding decent ales, so was quite pleasantly suprised to find some Abbot on in top form, however the euphoria was short lived when a nosey member of staff decided to barge into our private argument and try to provoke us for some totally unknown reason, next thing the bouncer marches over.... absolutely digraceful... shame on you Greene King (employee)

Recent begged the Greene King area manager to sort this place out. Could be a gold mine if it competed with the Black Jug, instead it just keeps going backwards.
|
When it re-opened after the refit it was a breath of fresh air. The fresh air got old fast. Good place to meet up and get gone from. Food below avg. beer ditto. Staff nice and customers keep themselves to themselves in the main.

Modern interior - a good place to meet friends as there are hundreds of seats. For the real ale though... well, last time I visited, out of 3 pumps 2 were off, one the Greene King IPA (can't believe they managed to run out of that) and the other a pump without even a clip on it. The remaining Abbot Ale was in poor condition and I didn't have a second, having to switch to lager. I imagine this is where most of their business comes from, that and bottles. All the drinks seemed ridiculously expensive. Town centre prices.
Food is ok ish and cheap ish, about wetherspoons quality. If you can get 20 friends in they'll bring out a free buffet of hit and miss sausage rolls and things.
Good place for meeting up with friends but that's about it. There are far better places in Horsham for everything else.

I paid my first visit here earlier in the month on a Friday evening. The palce was very busy and noisy but the bar staff still seemed to be able to serve customers politely and quickly.
The beer was okay but the usual Greene King staples.
I think the acoustics could be better - I found it difficult to hear my companions speaking.

really enjoyed this pub. the food was brilliant, decent sized portions and friendly staff.

This pub has a history and past that has long disapeared far from view. I visited recently on the recommendation of a friend, this would turn out to be good advise. The daily atmosphere and customer service really was the best i've experienced in a long time. The only let down for me was the menu really didn't fit the experience, it could have given me more although the food I recieved from my choice was well delivered and good value. The wine menu was as you would expect for a green king outlet. For me this visit ticked all the boxes for Customer Experience, nice decor and atmosphere, friendly staff (obvious good Management) and value. A recomended venue for a relaxed meet with your friends to a lovely town.

Very good pub to visit in horsham it has change since years ago!

Not good beer here sadly...spent loads doing it up but it lost all its old character....very expensive ale ...standard Green King offerings.Lighting very iffy!!!

I have no connection with The Crown other than as a satisifed customer and stand by my comments of Nov 07, I've been back several times since, at a variety of times and nights, and in a variety of company, and no one has had a bad word to say... this from a group that ranges from my 18-year-old Goth daughter to my 87 year old ex-para father with just about everything in between. I would not take my wife or my family or friends to a pub where there was a likelyhood of violence or drug abuse.
There have been a number of trainee bar staff learning the job on recent visits and service has suffered a little as a result though I tend to view this as a source of entertainment rather than annoyance....
I had a meal which was below par on my day off recently, my friend's meal was fine. I told the manager ASAP and my complaint was dealt with swiftly and with as much good grace as her obvious embarasment would allow. At not point was I asked to leave and have been back since and had an enjoyable pint. Much better pubs in town if real ale is your thing but if you want a lager, bottled beer or a glass or bottle of wine, or even a coffee in a bar for grown ups, The Crown is

What a transformation! Been in 4 or 5 times since the refurb on Sat and Sun lunchtimes. Always seems to attract couples and mature small groups of friends. Beer is well kept though not the most imaginitive selection in town. Food well prepared and well presented, staff friendly. Overall atmosphere and decor is very much like a hotel bar rather than a town centre pub.

Green King have really got it right at the Crown and should be congratulated. Went for Sunday Lunch with the family the food was excellent, the service was first class and the surroundings were fab. At last they have put a manager in who really knows what they are doing. Well done to all concerned, not before time.

What a treat! Who ever said that a leopard couldn't change its spots was way off with this one. Was out shopping in town and a friend suggested the Crown for lunch, like most people that haven't been there lately I was a little apprehensive, but how wrong could you be. The decoation is fantastic, the staff were attentive and helpful and the food was first class. I had a house deli board which I can highly recommend and the burgers were not to shabby. Planning to try out the Sunday roast next week so will keep you posted. First Class all round

The Crown has now had it's refurb, and is looking a good deal 'nicer'. It's only opened today, so there's no more news yet!
I have to say that the previous comments describing The Crown as a dump are uncalled for - I've been drinking in there for over 12 years and never had any trouble. In fact, I've witnessed a fight in Bar Vin (looong ago!) and a few in other places. If you don't have the balls to go and drink in the same room as 'dodgy characters', then you should stay at home with a bottle of Babycham.

So I hear there is a new manager on their way with a refurb planned for later this year! About time too! The pubs bark is worse than its bit and if you can get past the bad stuff it has the bones of a great place! Lets hope its not all talk and it actually takes place.
|
What can i say, this COULD be the best pub in Horsham, it has the best location in the middle of town, a good sized drinking area and a decent enough kitchen, however the refurbishment would take more money than the brewery want to spend.
Needs a new landlord, new doorstaff and a few days to bar every dodgey character in Horsham before getting in a fresh customer base.
|
The photo of this pub is the only thing nice to say about this pub..and even that looks like it has had a touch up. If you want to rub shoulders with those barred from everywhere else, feel free! Everywhere else is better than there.

Didn't venture inside, looks an absolute chav-magnet. Pool table, handful of young-ish customers propping up the bar, Green King IPA on handpump. Had a good view through the windows and door, thought about going in but just got bad vibes.
|
DOORSTAFF AND BAR STAFF ARE ALL FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL. GOOD ATOMOSPHERE ON FRIDAYS AND SATURDAYS IS BEGINNING TO CHANGE CORNER FROM LAST YEARS ICCIDENT. RECOMMENED BY MANY ! GIVE IT A GO !
|
While not having been in the Crown for a number of years, I did think it the lousiest pub in all England. It was certainly a blot on the face of Horsham.
|
If you are no good with your fists then do not go here.
Not a place for a quiet relaxing drink#!!!

A sizable, rambling, two-storey, cream coloured establishment occupying a corner of the Carfax. The interior was most likely once divided into various rooms; it is now open-plan and roughly L-shaped, with a restaurant area at one end and pool table and fruit machines at the other. The dcor and furnishings are eclectic with wooden, carpeted and stone floor areas, yellow and light green painted walls, and a few shabby looking modern sofas, brightly coloured in both green and blue. There are three handpumps: one is unused, a second is turned round and the third offers Greene King IPA. A half of this costs 1.15 but is somewhat vinegary so I have to return it. The member of staff is, to her credit, very apologetic and turns the pump clip round to match the other one. She offers Boddingtons Keg Bitter as an alternative so I elect to have an orange juice. I sit down in the bright blue shabby sofa, sip my juice and stay long enough to enjoy the excellent late-1970s music playing behind the bar Peaches, by the Stranglers and the unfairly forgotten Airport by the Motors. The Crown this early lunchtime has only one other customer and she leaves before I do.

Even the woman want to fight. Hand bags at ten paces..

Fine for a very quick visit, not one to linger in.

nice. that's all really.
it only sucks when the poncy students, who are so far up their own arses, come back from their crappy universities.
