Due to it mainly serving patrons of the cinema, it's generally very crowded. Fairly good selection of beer considering, and they do their own 'Broadway Reel Ale' which is very nice and reasonably priced. Decor is a bit staid. There's often arty films playing on a screen which is nice.

Can be a bit hectic & busy at times, food v. popular despite not being that great, but great selection of booze & great staff, it's rising popularity has made it the hub of hockley, thriving while quite a few other places go down the pan. Always been a fan of the cinema & glad to see it going from strength to strength.

Nice atmosphere although staff tend to be slow to clear up tables. Lots of laptop users hog tables and sip fizzy water too.

Always liked this place; friendly staff, decent range of beers; not entirely convinced about the refurb. Lots of long refrectory tables; everyone sqaushed in together. Upsatirs bar is a bit soulless and if you want a draft beer, you have to buy it downstairs and take it up. On the bright side, they've just introduced a curry night; 9 for a curry plus pint of beer or glass of wine; well worth it, but come early as it gets very hectic.

Bar now re-opened - refurb is OKish but seems like they tried to do it on the cheap - don't like the "canteen" style seating now in the main bar either

its got its licence back, its getting a refurb in october with more power points for laptops and cameras and stuff, better tables and more gallery space, there's going to be another proper bar upstairs and more seating around the building so you can sit in corners and work on scripts and stuff, hopefully a better media support network will build up around here - this should be something like the bar at the NFT considering the amount of film, animation and production done in Notttingham it ought ot work quite well

Boooooring...full stop.

It's a pity they didn't lose their coffee license. That might deter the antisocial wifi crowd who take up a table each for the afternoon/evening while decent drinkers have to stand.

one of the nice things that seems to be happening as a result of the police action is the bar staff are discouraging the gangs of teenagers who congregate here and spend four hours drinking a pot of tea for 12!
The cafe area is being refurbished in the early autumn and will re open as a no smoking venue thank god!

Easy going, relaxed Bar that sadly looks like its going to have its license temporarily revoked for a 6 week period for serving drinks to a 15year old (as part of a police sting) - nice to see the police concentrating on the real trouble spots in Nottingham......

One of the most pseudo-venues I have ever encountered. It's full of wine drinking, sandal wearing, Guardian reader 'intellectuals'. It's such a nice safe little venue for weedy liberal types who want to show that just because they're clever doesn't mean they can't be cool too. They all sit around pretending to have enjoyed the boring subtitled film they've just seen, when really they'd rather be in the UGC watching 'Jungle War 3: Total Carnage' with a big tub of popcorn.
The layout is pretty bland and boxy too, but with a bit of limp contemporary artwork shoehorned in to try and bequeath it a chic vibe.
I was a Labour Party member when I entered - I'm now a fierce reactionary and staunch advocate for the return of National Service, hanging, and corporal punishment in schools!

Excellent place for a post film meal & beer

Quite trendy, bright and airy inside. On the 2 occasions I've been in the bar staff have been well-busy but very helpful and efficient.
2 real ales (Harvest Pale and Hemlock)were both in cracking form.

food's good! cheap and healthy for a weekday evening, always have veggie and vegan choices. fast track option means you can get your dinner in 5 minutes in time for your film. lovely relaxed ambience, bar service may be slow but is always friendly, interesting tunes and visuals.

Popular bar in the Broadway Cinema. Cheapish food but don't expect anything wonderful.
In fact, don't expect anything special at all. Usually understaffed - expect to wait at least ten minutes to get served and don't expect them to have the advertised beers. Their two bitters (one's usually from Castle Rock, this is a Tyne Mill bar)are often unavailable and most of the staff don't even know what bitter is. The last time I was in there there was no bitter and none of their range of 'continental lagers', just Grolsch or Guinness.
Tables are often left uncleared after people have eaten, leaving little room to put drinks down.
Having got all that off my chest, this place does have a relaxed atmosphere and they have a great monthly film quiz. Video art is projected onto the walls (though 'video' might be a bit old fashioned these days). There is also the non-smoking Mezz bar which is pretty dull.
