Did they board the locals in ???
|
Drove past yesterday. All boarded up. What a great pub it was back in the seventies. Fella called Len ran it and he didn't take any nonsense from anybody. Great characters amongst the regulars. Terrific darts players. Heavily populated by roundsmen from the Express Dairy behind. When Len retired it was never as good although it was only in the nineties it really started deteriorating. My best mate died in 1999 and I only visited a couple of times after that. Musn't get too nostalgic. Still plenty of great pubs around!

Have heard this terrible hovel is finally being pulled down. Now, I'm a big supporter of keeping local pubs in their original form, bur I'm afraid I'm prepared me make an exception here.....pity the poor place the 'regulars' subject themselves to next !!

A traditional friendly pub with a nice quiet garden out the back. Karioke on Fridays and weekend afternoon sales (with hotdogs) in the garden of retro clothes, shoes, bags and etc to help young musicians.

Reliable rumour has it that Young's have applied for planning permission to replace this pub with... yes, more flats. Nice little instant earner for Young's and another pub bites the dust. Watch that space (it hasn't happened... yet).

A small corner pub to which the approach is simply terrifying - by bike at least - but it doesn't follow that the pub is poor. I was glad to see three Youngs Ordinary handpumps only be told that the Youngs is off, because since production switched to Bedford the beer hasn't kept at all well. (They should really turn the handpumps round if the beer isn't on).

cool little pub

The best night in The 'Shake' is a Friday, however I haven't been to the Blues night. Tommy Hogan is the resident DJ and is wicked! He will play anything you ask him to. The bar staff are very accomodating and friendly too. The clientelle can be colourful but are there to have a good time like the rest of us! All in all a f*****g good laugh!! And the drink prices are cheaper than most! So if you fancy an unpretentious evening with lots of 'house party' relaxed charm, come to The Shakespeare!

Hey 'Squatter' where are all those 'no smoking establishments' in the Richmond area...? Been looking for ages, can't find 'em. (My lad goes in The Shakespeare with a mate who lives nearby. I'll have to tell him to look at these reviews!).. TJ

Trouble is mate , this pub is truly shite and always has been - Youngs really should pull it down . I should know , its the nearest pub to where I live ,unfortunately !!!! No sane person should still be there at 8.00pm on a Sunday...........
|
Just awfull. Full of people that have just collected their dole money, come in here, grab a stool and stay here for the rest of the week. Can never tell who works there - random people just seem to get behind the bar and serve you and a round is a different price every time. It's rank!

No Youngs bitters at all yesterday afternoon - Sunday 14th - who knows, this might have been a blessing in disguise ? I am afraid to say that previous comments about this pub are all spot on. Definitely not recommended !

Desperately unpleasant - surprised that a brewery like Youngs want to be associated with a place as bad as this. Avoid at all costs. Attitude of locals and staff leave a lot to be desired, if they haven't seen you before.

there is a very good reason why this pub is a way out of richmond. Only try to find out if your feeling brave. Suprisingly friendly staff though considering the clientele
