Want to the Duke of York a few weeks ago as was meeting friends in the area. The place is tiny, about the size of a normal living room. We didn't stay long as they didn't have a chef and hence no food but some overpriced bar snacks (crisps etc.). The girl behind the bar looked as though she didn't want to be there and was quite arrogant with other customers. The girl also had no clue as to what Real Ale's were and out of the 4 or 5 that they had taps for only 1 was available.

After looking around Marble Arch for a comfortable pub to watch the rugby in I stumbled across this little gem on Harrowby Street. Nice pub grub, great atmosphere...definately will be returning again soon!
went to the duke of york yesterday for there weekly Thursday night quiz night had a great time won the £50 tab so me and my husband is going there Saturday to watch the Six Nations England v France and have something to eat.
Please note that at present this pub neither serves food or has Sky TV.
This doesn't stop it being a reasonable place, I should say, just don't go there thinking you'll have some grub & watch the football.
Great pub went there yesterday to watch the asernal and chelsea game, they had a good seletion of Ale, and i think that Candy ment Sambrook's they had the Wandle and junction great local Ale, The brewery is only in battersea. (about 4 miles from the pub) going there tomorrow to watch the Stoke v Newcastle Game
Went to the duke on Friday as some of us wanted food as we normally drink in the carpenters. Was quite busy and there burgers are fantastic. We found out from the manager that on Halloween there is 2.95 pints so we will definitely be back !! All in all brilliant little pub with a smashing manager and lovely staff. Cant wait to go on monday!!
This pub is my favourite pub in the area, the staff are very friendly and the new manager seems very professional and friendly to. He is a lot better than the last one. They have two screens in the main bar and they have one upstairs and the manager said that they are putting a bar up there beacause it gets really busy when there are big games on TV. The owner seems to be spending a lot of time and money getting this pub looking nice which is great to see. There are new benches outside and the manager also told me that there would be outside heaters out there by this week. All in all i am a very happy regular customer! :)

went to the duke of york yesterday wth some friends to watch the match, all of us were drinking ale, i had doombar and then i had a guest ale i think it was called sandbrookes anyway i prefered it than the doombar and my friends were drinking Green king IPA. had a great night and we will definetly be going back
I went to the duke of York with my husband and a few of his mates. We went to watch the rugby and lucky for us they had a function room upstairs showing the football and two tvs downstairs showing the two other games. It was fairly busy and the food was good. We all enjoyed ourselves and would definetly go there again.
that pic must be quite old becuause it looks a lot nicer then that now. I went there last thursday and couldnt beleave how nice the food was. going there tonight with a bunch of friends to see if we can win the 50 prize on the quize
I went to this pub on thursday night and what a great night it was. It was quiz night and it only cost us a pound each. Sadly we didnt win but all of us enjoyed ourselves and had a good laugh. The food was great and they had a good selection of wine.
Visited this pub for first time on Friday evening. Nothing special about the place very run down for such an important location. As stated by an reviewer looks very attractive from the outside. Bombadier was off and the pride was nothing to write home about . We moved on.
In tonight. Could be a great pub I think, but not at the minute. See windows that look like jet aircraft exhausts. Beautiful from the outside though.
Went only as chosen pub was packed for England V Germany - packed of course but everyone was friendly - nice place, very heavily leaning on the sports theme with many interesting framed memorabilia and pictures. Would need to go back on a regular day for a normal experience (as opposed to packed football crowd) but seemed nice enough.
Small traditional single roomed pub with a sporting theme - lots of rugby and golf pictures and some models of rugby players on top of the bar. As one would expect in this sort of environment there are screens for watching matches.
There was nothing special about this pub and while it's ok for a quick one I would head for the Windsor Castle if in the area.
gone downhill fast. not worth the visit now. went to windsor castle instead.
shame, it used to be a well run pub
Food's gone quite badly downhill recently. Chip portions have shrunk dramatically and been swapped for a cheaper type of chip. All of the burgers seem to come with some sort of prawn cocktail on.
Introduction of absurdly loud music, even during weekday lunchtimes, makes me think it's being run rather more for the staff's benefit than the customers'.
Visited 3 time recently , good service , good food ( huge portion), beers were ok, liked it so went back with friends. can see where a good 7 rating could come from. its not some high st gastro pub but then its not trying to be one. a good local pub with range of food and drinks that can keep most visitors happy. im giving it an 8 because its still a true pub
Ah, that explains a lot Biggles. I gave it 5 and would say this is nearer a 5 than a 6.
"Average pub I would say - surprised at the 7.2 average" - Grecian.
As Trainman suggests, this is do to their vigorous self-promotion. Almost all the 'favourable' reviews are by people who've just registered and have never reviewed (or even been to?) any other pub and who all probably 'gave it ten'. It's a bad sign, beware.
If you allow for the fact that there are at least 15 such reviews, that would make their real score nearer to 6. Does that sound more like it?
Average pub I would say - surprised at the 7.2 average. A basic one-room interior: functional but not unpleasant. Three ales on tap when I visited, but none desperately exciting.
Have been coming to the Duke for the Past 2 years for our Company summer piss up!! Excellent food and organisation. Would recommend to anyone!!
Very friendly staff and owners! this is a real local, in the middle of London, where everybody feels welcome. Wednesday Quiz night is always good fun! Guiness is good. Pub food good too.
Like Trainman, I found myself in the area yesterday and decided to pop in for a swift one. The fact that the pub in the No 1 spot, as the DofY was a few days ago, was a London pub I had never visited seemed somehow wrong to me. The staff were Kiwis I think. Plenty of rugby memorabilia all over the place and clearly sport-orientated. Lots of what appeared to be original features. It was clean and comfortable and the barman was friendly and helpful. Didn't eat there, but the Bombardier was good (at 2.90 a pint it ought to be!). All in all i thought it was a very good pub, but not deserving of the No 1 spot. It now looks to be about where it desreves to be at No 24. but definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
I wouldnt ordinarily visit an establishment which so blatently promotes itself via narcisistic self reviews, but I was in the area so decided to step in for a reality check. Four customers and two aussie staff were in the carpetted bar at lunchtime, beers on offer were 6X, IPA, Bombardier had the latter, which was fine. Tables were set up for eating (with ketchup btls) , I didnt notice a food menu but the wine list led with Moet at a v reasonable 28.50 and the reverse showed features such as quiz night, 15min food turnover, summer pints of pimms. A plasma at each end of the bar suggests it is probably big on sport. I was always unlikely to be endeared to the D.O.M. having received a rude e-mail from one of its BITE incarnations following my comment (removed!) about self-aggrandisement, and that is still the case. Ordinary bar, ordinary beer. I moved on to the Masons (Badger beer and characterful pub) and the Carpenters (5 unusual real ales).

Good to see a Pub in the top 10 paying for the services that beer in the evening offer.

The 'negative feedback' mentioned by pippiptallyho has already been removed as it broke the pattern, which was of a long list of pub customers registering just to make one post.
Dont know what the negitive feedback is about but I am a local in the area and find the Duke to be a fantastic place. Service is good and atmoshere is fun.
well what can i say about the Duke of York? as a single young female i have never felt as welcome or as comfortable as i do in the Duke. Every lunch time my staff and I come for lunch for the fantastic food and always a welcome atmosphere.
I have found this to be one of the best pubs in my local area, given the fact that there about 10 pubs in close proximity this is no easy feat. The bar staff and landlords have created a warm and friendly atmosphere serving some of the best pub food in the area. The quiz nights are also a good laugh although some of the questions are a bit hard (tip for anyone attending, look out for the James Bond question as the quiz master is very into the series of films and books).
met my friends here cos of the great central location and we had a fantastic time sitting out in the sunshine and enjoying the yummy drinks and the yummy barmen with one of my friends even snogging one of them after he had finished his shift good night out and will def will be back!
Arranged a function here for a friends birthday, we all had a fantastic evening, beer was fresh, 3 ales on tap. would reccomend this place for a function.
I had a most enjoyable experience at the Duke of York, a perfect small pub atmosphere with friendly locals and lots of entertainment, right in the centre of London.

great pub, love it .....food is great and cheap for central london..Always some sport on , and bar staff and owners very friendly.
Interesting little sporty place with Welsh and English rugby and football posters all over the walls, only one real ale but what there was was good.
a great choice - went there for a birthday booze-up on Saturday having seen the reviews on this website. The barman was very welcoming, the beer was good (though there could have been more choice), and the food was great. The owner was also out that night, and both he and the barman made sure we were having a good time.
This pub certainly lives up to its reputation. It may be small but its big on service with the beer great and the food excellent. We had a great night and did'nt want to leave. But will certainly be back. Great Fun!!

This pub has a great atmosphere and the food is excellent. I would highly recommend this pub as it has everything and is well priced. If you love sport there is nowhere better to watch it in the area and the staff are welcoming and attentive.
A great pub to watch sport and let your hair down.
this is an excellent pub with top quality food, excellent service and the drinks spot on,the aussie barman is a mine of info and will happily give out info about where to go and what to see not only locally but seemed to be doing a good job for the london tourist board!!! a mine of infomation, best pub in the local area that we visited and will deffo return

The Duke of York has one of the best atmospheres out of any pub I have been to so far. The staff is extremely friendly and they do an excellent job of broadcasting the major football events. The beer on tap is great; the food is delicious and priced nicely. The owners and barkeeps are very friendly and personable, making for a great experience.
