Adam, I am certainly a regular. Why? Because its a great boozer!
Each to their own I guess.

Horrible unfriendly little pub. I am perplexed as to how all these good comments came about? Second time I have visited and staff are disinterested with an attitude of 'I don't want to be here'. I am only assuming those comments are from regulars or landlords themselves! Prefer the other Irish bar across the road. Bit more atmosphere to say the least!

Ive been in here a few times recently and had a few Pints & ive always found it too be a nice Bar. There are plenty of TVs too watch sport on and few few snug corners. Its only one large room but there's lots of seating and alcoves too sit in. They serve a Nice Pint of Guinness as well. There is also a heated smoking area outside at the front. I Found the staff & other customers very welcoming & polite. I would say its one of the better Places too have a drink around East Finchley I will visit again when in the area especially as I live just off fortis green and there's not many good pubs in that area.

Had a great St Patrick's Day (night) here. Great crowd, decent music, but it was hot in there. Don't know what the comments on the staff are about. They're a great, and very hard-working bunch.

Brilliant pub. Mystified by previous comments. Here I can go alone or accompanied and feel at home and amongst friends. Great place to watch sport and beer always well kept. Its a pub with a heart and a soul.
The landlord here has done a brilliant job in transforming the place into the first class watering hole it now is. And far from all this 'Dirty Gerties' nonsense the place is always clean and immaculate and the regulars are some of the most civilised people you could wish to meet. My wife and mother both confirm that the wine available is superior to any other pub in the locality.
This is everything a community pub should be. Bravo!

pub looks welcoming from the outside. However inside is a different story. both customers and staff extremely unpleasent and unwelcoming. Drinks too pricey for where it is. Plenty of televisions but all they appear to show is horseracing. Better have a drink in hand or you might be told to leave!!

Dirty Gerties! Great community pub. I've never had a problem with the staff, in fact they have always been patient as they watch me count out change in an inebriated state.

I have been to this pub a few times and I have really enjoyed each time. Unfortunately that all changed when I dropped in last time. For one, the price of beer has gone up. I understand all prices have gone up but this bar is in East Finchley, not central London. In particular, the bottles of beer were extorniate. There also appears to be a big change in staff and not for the better. One male (Irish) barman in particular really stood out as being rude and aggressive. When we approached the bar he had a face like thunder, without any greeting, just said 'what do you want'. While my wife was deciding what she wanted, he stood behind the bar huffing and looking to the ceiling. This young man is not cut out for barwork and there is a obvious difference between current and previous staff. This wont stop me from going into Gerties but I wont be relishing it. Shame.

I personally love this pub lovely irish pub more irish than home. I come over to meet my Ma and her boyfriend fiasol, cant get enough of it beer is cheap don't be put of my negative comment here their probably anti irish just give it ago. Very freindly great place to watch hurling, football, rugby must try the new gertie brownes they opened cental finchley on the way over in june can't wait.

Excellent pub for football, chat and banter. Beer is really good, cheap, and bar staff are friendly. Not the sort of place you'd go on a night out, well maybe you'd step in for a couple, but it's ideal for every other occasion.
|
excellent bar.staff extremely friendly and helpful. its just a shame that the previous comments are based on a more personal view than anything else. wonder if those individuals were barred from there??

Wonderful pub for locals and visitors alike. reflects the charm of East Finchley - a thriving part of North London with all the benefits of friendly residents.

I have been to this pub before I was asked to leave by management myself and my partner. A small little ginger women in particular stands out who asked me to leave this was for no reason they waited to had spent a substantional amount of money before they asked me. In this pub you will meet people who have an enjoyment and a motivation about talking about one and other. The beer is not bad to be fair though I hear prices have increased recently. Should anyone enjoy talking bad about the person two seats down from them go there, that is providing you get a seat as the owners like to prop up the bar and size up the clientel . They have lost a long standing bar man, a man very well thought off in the Irish community to the Alexandra a much better pub located 100 yards down the road. You will get asked more questions in Gertie Browns than chris tarrants who wants to be a millionare but if you have got a jelous streak like talking about people and most of all like putting people down then drink in Gerties no were better in that respect. You will never buy the local paper again if you drink in this one.

went to this pub on a saturday and it was very busy.excellent pub. cold beer and very polite and friendly staff who make you feel welcome

Good pub for watching footie.

Cheapish. Irish. Friendly enough bar staff. Although some of punters you wouldn't exactly take home to mum.

I was really impressed with Gertie Brownes, especially as I had been looking forward to going ever since the Gertie Brownes in Hampstead closed and wasnt disappointed. The Lager (Stella) was very well kept and the Irishman that served me was very friendly. (I probably would have preferred being served by the barmaid though, if connor_g07 is to be believed).
There are loads of plasma screens, even little ones in the booths, which will show any sport. (Premier league darts was on, but muted, whilst I was there). They have Premiership games on a Saturday at 3pm and can show different games at the same time.
There was a random selection of music playing from Irish to modern chart stuff.
The locals seemed friendly enough and I would say that this is one of the best pubs I have been in for a while.

was in this pub twice. Its alright the best thing in it was the barmaid. Gorgeous irish girl. That would be the reason id go back

friendly staff and locals. cheap beer. good pub for a weekend visit.

hello to donal and jack and paul and the lads
|
The truth is this place isnt bad, but with Maddens accross the road this place is really no competition. In my opinion you should just cross the road.

Nice friendly staff. Clean, nice decor inside and out, drink is good and reasonably priced. Watch all the sport on the nice plasma screens. Some good bands over the weekends.
|
Looks horrific on the inside, but the beer's cheap and the staff friendly, so I guess it depends what you want from a pub really.
The map link above points to the wrong place mind.
