Good pub. Decent real ales.

Nice enough pub and a nice enough pint of Hardy & Hanson but it is more noticeably a GK house as the H & H was the only non standard GK offering. Reasonable place but nothing special.

Best pub in the world. My local when I was younger but still visit once a year or so when I can. Lovely crowd/staff.

Great beers. Haven't eaten there in years so dunno if thats any good.

Great quiz. If a little suited to the older generation.

Fairly pleasant pub on a hillside and with a good view of the old Hardy & Hansons Brewery building. Beers available were Hardy & Hansons Kimberley Bitter, Castle Rock Elsie Mo and St Austell Proper Job. The music was quite loud in the bar. Another area of the pub was closed off for a private party. The bar area has floorboards whilst the area beyond has red and white tiling. A fairly friendly establishment that was certainly much busier than our previous pub - the Gate at Awsworth.

I cannot comment about the pub but I would suggest to avoid this B&B. To start they request a cash deposit to book a room and if you change your booking (even 24 hours in advance of your stay) they keep the deposit. They are prone to make mistakes while calculating the number of nights and the price they adverstise on some web pages is different from the one they actually charge you. Better to avoid it!

I visited this pub again on Saturday before going on the last ever tour of the Hardy & Hanson's brewery. The food was much better this time (chicken curry recommended) and they dealt very efficiently with our large party. The Gunpowder Plot was the pick of the beers. Not a Greene King pump clip in sight, but that, alas, will soon change!!

Visit this pub for the beer and the friendly service, but eat elsewhere. The Friar's Fancy is an excellent brew. What will happen to it when Greene King get their grubby mitts on it?

Really sorry about this as we've enjoyed this pub before, but today the food was awful. Had Sirloin steak which was supposed to be medium but was not sirloin and was overcooked. When we complained we were told that 'chef' said it was medium but they would do another one. Second one just as bad had to complain again. Nice beer shame about the food. Not sure what has happened to this once enjoyable pub, maybe we were just unlucky!

This pub is one of the most popular in the area and dining often has to be booked in advance (speaks for itself).

Me and my family visited this pub and was discusted by our meal and service. At first I ordered a steak and stilton pie and then was told to order something else as they had ran out, so I ordered a beef baguette. When it came however it was cheap pressed beef and gravy slopped onto a piece of french stick bought from the local sainsburys. If I was any body I would not take the risk of dining here at all.

A real gem of a pub. Good no nonsense food and excellent, well kept real ale. A friendly clientelle and staff. There are not many places as good as this anywhere.

Food excellent especially with a pint of Dark - must try

This is the 'brewery tap' for the Hardy & Hansons Brewery which is only about 50 yards away.

You won't get trendy music or flashy discos/karaoke, etc here but not surprisingly you will get cask beer in fantastic condition.
