Popped in for a quick couple of pints recently for a "lets go somewhere we aint been for ages" drink. It was daytime so no idea about evenings entertainment etc but the pint of Holsten Export was really nice. Yes I know thats not ale but it is a pint of alcohol so it counts. Food looks OK and the chap serving was friendly. Probably just out of walking range for me otherwise would go here more often

Good pub and good venue for catching some brill bands !! Walked in and was made to feel welcome straight away. Some mad old rock chick soon dragged me onto the dance floor and had me dancing !! Considering the area, so close to the palace, the prices are quite reasonable. The ale went down a treat. Looks are deceiving as i always avoided this pub due to the noise coming from there and some dodgy looking biker folks outside but i was wrong and will be drinking in there again. The landlord and staff didn't make me wait too long for a drink and i received service with a smile which is rare these days but should be compulsory when people are taking your money and u are given them custom. In this pub i received good service so well done cardinal !! A few things were a little off ..... the outside drinking area was in poor shape, but nothing a few pound could fix. The toilets were run down and dirty and could do with some improvement. Another thing and depending on your age this may be a plus or a negative ... I found that the people who venture in there were to wrong side of 50 and if u are under that u may not want to drink in there. Mostly male, over the hill, wannabe rockers. Sorry any regular who read this as i enjoyed my visit and chats with the people in there but gotta tell it how i see it. The ale and spirits went down a treat. I have only ever been down here in the evenings so haven't sampled the food on offer. Next time i am local i would gladly give it a go though. All pubs have a clicky vibe but didn't experience that in this pub which was a nice change. Down side also, is the parking. Being so close to the palace parking is permit and if not is sparse. There is a bus stop right outside though so thats a plus. The pub itself is a bit dated and i understand the landlords probably want to keep its "charm" what with it being so close to the palace, but it could do with a serious cash injection in the improvement of the decor. Good pub but could do so much better. Looking forward to seeing the loudshirts again. good little boozer for live bands.

Wandered into this pub Saturday nite (19/2) around 9pm after being advised it was a good music venue. The place was in full swing for a charity night, which was science fiction themed! I did have some aprehension but me and my mate decided to have a pint and see what occurred, we ended up staying till 11.30. During our time there we were throughly entertained by a sci fi quiz, some very clever themed music videos that we were advised were created by some of the people attending the event, and the gentleman who was running the thing who was very funny all evening and promoted the supported charity with real affection. This sort of thing is not normally my cup of tea, but I would come back again if another event of this type was organised!

Can't help but notice the last 5 posters all registered on this site and gave a glowing notice to this pub without saying a word about any other pub or visiting the site since, obviously the owners/staff/regulars have been trying to big up the place.I can see why, bitter was fine if expensive, there were no pictures on the walls giving the place a strange spartan feel, the plastic flowers on the mantelpiece looked like something out of the 1970s and the food menu was limited, dull and unimaginative.Nothing made me want to go back ever again.

Finest real ale, Good quality pub grub, Pool table, Friendly locals, Quality service, Give this one a try, This is how a Pub should be run.
|
Good food, Great pint, Friendly barman, Stunning barmaid!
|
Great pub ideal meeting place, best pint of real ale I have had in a long time .
|
Welcoming friendly pub, good food perfect pint, well worth a vist.
|
Well worth a visit. James, the current manager, pulls a good pint and is very welcoming.

Under new management again, This time as a normal pub. First class real ales and larger + possibly the best beef burgers in the south of England. The only down side is the decor is in need of renewal, but the food prices reflect this. This has to be worth a visit from a real ale or / and or burger fanatic!

Visited this pub for the 1st and last time on friday 22 May 2009. I ordered 1 pint Spitfire, half of lager and a small coke - total 9.50 ... I queried with barmaid and she confirmed 9.50 - that's the most expensive round of three drinks i've EVER bought. Disgusting.

Best music venue in the area......especially when Crywolf are on
|
glad to see the website up, and the "Opening Evening Night Special" was great for bringing customers, only trouble was there were TOO many!! :) :) :) - so I had to get a pint elswhere :(
anyhow, went back at 1130, managed to get in!! :) still a great selection of beers, not any big changes - happy to see you kept to its winning formula!!
Just one small thing about the website - can you please add the website of each of the bands? - this was a feature that really helped follow them!
cheers! :)

This has been a great music venue for years, and hopefully the location will keep people from nearby attractions coming for years m0re..
Just one thing, I hope the managemennt has noticed that the website domain has lapsed!! It would be awful to loose such agood URL!!! and PLEASE, PLEASE!!!!!! do not say myspace.... :(:(:(:(

18th the managment changed hands. The place has had a total revamp and the new owners are great. The place looks really great now. It's fresh clean and the band list looks cracking up till christmas. Went in on the jamming session on monday night and it was heaving. The bar is serving lots of new drinks and the toilets are really ok now!
Will be having a few more nights in there. Would recommend this pub to anyone.
The new owners are quite a good laugh too!

The toilets are disgusting, I had a baby with me and did not want to change her in those poor conditions!
|
We paid money to get in and the manageress stopped a great covers band half way into their set. We got no refund whatsoever so we decided to leave and so did everyone else in protest. Filthy toilets too. Will never set foot there again.

Some people like pavlova, anon...! Lovely location for a pub. River Thames behind, Hampton Court Green infront, and the palace of kings+queens nearby! This used to be Sir Christopher Wren's local inn apparently (according to an old regular...he didn't look that old, or that regular either..!)
|
Nice pub, nice beers, pleasant barman, redoubtable manager (not seen), shame about the yappy little dog. Oh well.
|
Cry Wolf were excellent here on Dec23rd....packed the place out! Felt a bit pissed off that we were asked to put money in the jug when they know we pay on the door.........NO MORE JUG MONEY!!!

I like this pub! Went in there a couple of weeks ago on a Friday night. There was a good band (better music than singing)but still enjoyable. Staff (including the landlady!) were friendly and quick to serve. Most of the customers seemed like they may be regulars but was a nice crowd . Went in there again on Sunday afternoon last week and it was lovely and quiet with some music in the background (just right for a sunday afternoon recovery session)! I would definitley recommend this pub to those who like their music - all different types of live music every week (Thurs, Fri & Sat)2 entry fee - worth it. Don't really have any criticism of this pub and would recommend it to those 25+. Pleased to finally find a pub without chavs, kids, asylum seekers or pikeys and it's in a lovely area!

Shepherd Neame pub which makes a lot of its live music with such circuit stalwarts as Loudshirts, Bad Influence and Papa George playing here. Conveniently near the railway station and bus stop though buses into Kingston are not frequent.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha! What a terrible liar!! Since when people go to pubs armed with stacks of CDs that they then ask pub managers to play? If that was the case, after you stopped the band -that band was absolutely great and everyone in the audience enjoyed their energetic performance immensely- you would have played music from different bands / Cds. Instead you only left a single album (by the band Ac/dc) play, until everyone left without getting ANY refund whatsoever. I dont know what music you played when you and your other 3 friends were left on your own. Maybe you changed the CD maybe you played the same CD from the start. You are a terrible liar and a terrible manageress and I will never ever visit your pub again! Shame on you!!

In response to 'Annonymous' regarding the stopping of the Band. The band was stopped because my customers were walking out on them & those that remained in the pub (mainly the friends) informed me that they would prefer C.D.s of their choice to what they were hearing. A refund of the 2.00 admission fee was offered. You can't win 'em all.

Just like to make it clear in case there is any confusion, since the band's name in this comment is not mentioned......that the band that was stopped at the Cardinal was not PEACH!
We will be playing here as usual on a regular basis.
Thanks for your continued support!

The unbelievable manageress, decided to stop the band (people are asked to pay 2 entry fee to see the bands) just because she did not like the groove, even though everyone in the audience did!!! A financial disaster for the band and of course totally unfair for the people that traveled to see the band play or just paid money to get in and drink. Of course every one walked out once the band was stopped and the manageress was left with just 3 of her friends in entirely empty pub on a Saturday night!!! What a joy killer!!!

Watch this space for 'PEACH' GIGS.
Come and see us play your favourite rock numbers.
Not to be missed!
P.S. Thanks to all those who came and saw us last month.

The couple who run the Cardinal have just celebrated two years of running the place, and a great job they are doing too. This is the place to go for live music. Not many pubs have a music licence and this pub is leading the way with some great live bands. As a punter who used to go to the bleak house for music on a monday night, its nice to see the old faces coming to the cardinal."the word is spreading",so well done on the first two years...and many more to follow.Cheers.

STOP PRESS... I've just heard that the Card' might be hosting LORD LUCANS fun Quiz ***winner of Oscar for best Foreign Fun quiz in a supporting Roll Musical with subtitles*** (on a Sunday). What a coup for Feltham's push to host the 2056 Winter Olympic Games. One Antoino Suramanch (or something similar)

Good old traditional English pub, great home cooked food...served all day until 9pm....The Sunday roast is good too. Live bands Thurs to Saturday evenings...especially good for Blues fans, free admission. Wonderfully relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff.....nice to see places like this still exist. And I almost forgot to mention that 3 cask conditioned ales on tap at all times.....superbly kept !!

Loudshits are playing here on Saturday 25th September and Xmas eve. Londons hardest working covers band
Gary Summers - 25 Sep 2004 15:26 |
Lighting too bright and Real Ale very poor... however they really seem to be trying and it'll probaby get better. If you like live music in a small Pub give it a try. I would suggest Karaoke early midweek - or in place of the crappy Irish music. What about live comedy?
The Pub Ghost - 5 Sep 2004 21:37 |
Come and see PEACH play live on Saturday 21 August. DON'T MISS IT!
anonymous - 16 Aug 2004 17:23 |
PEACH playing live at the Cardinal Wolsey on Friday 6 August. If you've not heard this band, you should do. A seriously talented bunch!
anonymous - 30 Jul 2004 11:36 |
Went there in a lunch time it was dead the beer was ok. I think they get most of there trade in the evenings as there are a lot of posters promoting live music.
|
This pub may be old fashioned in style but features some great professional live bands. If your serious about music, go and check it out on Saturday 3 July
