Beautiful place to stay - everything was perfect.... Black Sheep - Room - and food.

Recently reopened under new management and I hope they are a success. It deserves to be.

Good beer and excellent food. Roast beef lunch was superb.

Friendly welcome, good ale, and some very hearty pub grub - a proper Dales boozer, and well worth incorporating into a walk.

Stayed here with my Dad for a few days hiking in the local area. We were in the small barn opposite the pub, next to the stream. Good location - with plenty of walks available from the pub such as Bucken Pike, Bucken, Starbotton and Hubberholme. The pub itself is very traditional with stone floors and farming equipment hanging on the walls. Beer range included Timothy Taylors (Keighley) and Copper Dragon (Skipton). Food was very good - I especially recommend the belly pork and black pudding. Very friendly staff. My only improvement would be for them to include a guest beer or one of the more local breweries (Dent, Yorkshire Dales, Wensleydale etc). 8/10

Good basic walker's pub: excellent Copper Dragon Golden Pippin and Tim Taylors Golden Best (didn't try the other real ale). Hearty eating - all good after a day on the fells. Accommodation in need of some t l c.

Friendly landlord and staff, good quality beer and malts, good food and plenty of it, cosy atmosphere. No TVs, machines or music. In other words a proper pub ......don't miss it.

A nice warm welcome awaits. Good beers and reasonably priced, good standard home cooked food. A real country pub.

Nice traditional pub with well kept ale.

Is there an "easy" way to climb the Pike??

All pubs should be like this. I agree with all the preceding comments.

A lovely, traditional roadside inn, surrounded by majestic Dales countryside. There are three drinking areas with a real fire in the large room opposite the bar.
Four real ales on our visit: Timothy Taylor's 'Landlord' and 'Golden Best'.Copper Dragon 'Golden Pippin' and 'Scotts 1816'. The Golden Pippin was faultless- flavoursome, fresh tasting and served cool NOT cold. (After climbing Buckden Pike the hard way,the first pint barely touched the sides of my throat!)
The hearty portions of food were good value and I'd recommend the filled giant Yorkshire puddings.
Bar staff friendly and attentive.

Apparently, the pub has now been taken over by Enterprise Inns. It will be interesting to see if the character of the pub changes.

However, at the moment highly recommended.

Still an atmospheric interior, and good quality Copper Dragon beers. Recommended.

One of Copper Dragon's pubs - and a great place it is, on the steep hill above Buckden. Real fire and a stone-flagged floor, and on the wall by the door there's a bar game which involves swinging a ring onto a hook. Apparently, this was once a common pub game in what is now North and West Yorkshire, but has now all but died out. The Golden Pippin was excellent - absolutely bursting with hops. Food also good - and a decently priced, too. I agree with cackgsy - the staff are great, and so were the drinkers. One of the great things about pubs in this region is the easy way it is to fall into conversation with a total stranger. Before you know it, it's chucking-out time and a swift half has become twelve pints.

Visited 8 Jun 05. Beautiful setting in the Yorkshire Dales. Three real ales available, we had Copper Dragon Golden Pippin, which was in good condition. As it was a mid-week afternoon we were the only customers, but I would imagine that in the evenings it would be quite a lively little place. I congratulate the bar-girl for her charm and friendliness.

This is a fantastic roadside pub. They do great food, 2 or 3 cask ales and you can even stay overnight!!

There is a fantastic footpath over a babbling brook across the road, and Buckden Pike is only half a mile or so away.

I think the local busses pass here throughout the day, probably from/to Harrogate.
