Change of management and redecorated recently makes it a lot nicer and still has lively atmosphere.

Heading south from Scotland this coming March, remember when it was called the Coach and Handbags, by reason of the old landlord, Valentine and his boy friends.

Please delete this and my previous comment. I posted it by accident and I've never even been to this place :P

Delightful hotel pub. Great downstairs dining area. Beer selection is somewhat sparse, but is usually an agreeable selection of Jennings beers. A roaring fireplace in winter and great staff make visiting this little pub a pleasure.

Good old boozer that serves a couple of real ales and acceptable food. It's a pub of the old-school type so if you don't like places where 60-something year old guys prop up the bar, drink bitter and swear like troopers, it's maybe best avoided. Personally, I can't help but have a soft spot for the coach and horses.

Meant to say:
Two pubs on this stretch of Upper Parliament Street, this is one of them and they're both dire! If you work and DONT'T regret the smoking ban you won't feel at home in either.

The food reminds me of school dinners, sitting in trays at the counter.....it put me off actually, i didn't bother in the end!

Good old fashioned pub - great music - gets absolutely packed solid at weekends though, so avoid if claustrophobic

A real old-fashioned style pub with friendly people and service and quite good and cheap food at lunch-times. Mind the stairs when you go to the toilet though.

Not bad city centre boozer. Loads of old fogies taking advantage of the cheap grub at lunchtimes.
They have 3 or 4 real ales on handpump and the pub is handily placed for a mega crawl along this city centre street
