Closing in December for conversion to a supermarket - another gig venue lost.

Front bar looks much better now they've spruced it up - fresh paint and cushions on the chairs makes a nice change. The atmosphere is lovely, perfect for pre-drinking before a gig next door or heading into central London. Says 0.2 miles from the station, but it's literally a few yards away. Shame they don't publicise the beers from next door though, as they've got some bottled real ale which they'll bring round if you ask - I only found out on the off chance as a regular was drinking some.

Pretty dire outlet opposite Blackhorse Road tube. No real ale, uncomfortable chairs and dreadful decor. Even the large screen TV was out of focus. Music venue next door a better bet for beer.

Your feet stick to the floor and it stinks, the money they charge on the door should have paid for a revamp year ago, Walthamstow really has a long way to go. Kebabs across the road are nice...when ya pissed.

Wasn't enforcing the smoking ban as of 12:35 am on 8th July 2007!

Met mates here before getting a cab to the Dogs, suited the purpose. The place is doomed though with plans to redevelope the site as a gateway to E17(!)

You could never give this bar points for decor but the staff are friendly and its a good place for a drink and a meet before gigs. Landlord does an excellent fun quiz on a Sunday

I re-iterate Nick's (26.05.04) comments. On the decor, we have tables and chairs that look like they have been stolen from some down market garden furniture store - think cheap chrome table & chairs. If you are not a Walthamstonion i would advise against Friday nights. On the plus side they have a big screen which may come in handy for Euro 2004.

This bar, formerly the Royal Standard, is an adjunct to what is now The Standard Music Venue, Walthamstow's premier live music club. The decor is as awful as the name suggests, but the atmosphere is friendly. Once they've opened the doors to the live music area it's generally quite empty, which as far as I'm concerned is good as it means I can get on the pool tables! The best thing about the place compared to the other pubs in the immediate vicinity is that you don't feel like you're going to get glassed in the face for looking at someone's pint in the wrong way. The drink is nothing special, just your standard lagers etc.
