The chef and manager were jailed for 12 and 18 months respectively after being

with food poisening after eating a Christmas dinner here in December 2012.

DO NOT EAT HERE the term food to die for takes on a new meaning

Definitely one of the more better, more comfortable pubs in Hornchurch, where you can sit down, have a good chat and a quiet-ish drink. Not many decent, cosy pubs left in Hornchurch now - there seem to be too many "posy" wine bars popping up!! I like this pub, even it is a bit of walk from Hornchurch town centre. Does get busy at weekends, so get in there early to get a seat

This is one of the better pubs in hornchurch. Its clean, serves a good pint, and attracts a better type of customer. (no yobs or trouble makers). It not long ago had a refurb but still kept its old charm. Defintatley worth a look whilst waiting at hornchurch station.

No decent real ales typical of most Hornchuch pubs.

This pub seems to attract good crowds consistently and seems to be popular with a wide ranging crowd. Real ale is offered but the range and quality are very variable. The pub is friendly, clean and comfortable and the food looks OKish. The only annoying thing is the continual piped music of the Heart variety which gets under your skins after a while. I was in there when it was empty save for a few older guys and i think the music was aimed solely at the bored bar maid.

popped in the other sunday about 1300hrs was going to have a bite to eat with the moosus , but even at this early hour all the tables were taken , thought sod it have a beer n go down the optimist , took 10 mins to get served had a quick scoop then went down optimist , for some reason on the weekend this pub goes downhill , still better than some establishments in hornchurch

I must disagree with romforddir about food. My elderly in laws had a horrendous experience when they went one lunchtime last week. They got the starters mixed up. Instead of getting lasagne, my father-in-law got ravioli covered in cheese. They had run out of fruit salad, so he got an apple flan, with very little apple! As they left a waitress apoligised that there had been a mix up and hoped that they would would return. Not likely! I have had a few pints there and it has not been so bad. I am still waiting for their 'guest services' to get back to me, but as Ember Inns are part of the Mitchell and Butler conglomerate they probably don't care.

well i will say it has got a little bit pricey lately but who cares , during the day you get a wide range of people in , some dining some just drinking (usually me) , late afternoon it starts getting busy when the office bods get home and fancy a quick beer , normally (sun mon-thurs) dies off around 8pm , but i have never had a bad pint in here , the staff (during the day at least) are superb , never known any trouble in here , well when ive been there , there hasnt been , a nice little gem hidden off the trail of the pubs in hornchurch , top hole !

Super pub, friendly staff great food, good atmosphere . We use other pubs in the area but always end up returning to our favourite by a mile.

one good thing about this pub is the food , no matter how busy it is , the food is always excellent , the beer is usually pretty well kept as for the comment on coors being a premium quality ale (which i assume was a snipe at me) this is the only pub in hornchurch which does coors and as with all the beer (lager or otherwise) it is usually in a very well kept condition and tastes superb , the only let down is the premium prices but compared to some of the pubs in the near vicinity id rather pay the extra to sit in a nice friendly pub think its only about 3p a pint dearer than the hogshead and there isnt much chance of a fight breaking out in here , the staff are excellent , the food is excellent and the beer is excellent so this to me is the number 1 pub in the hornchurch area and thus my local

Packed out last night, full of many loser types that think the Coors Light on draught is a premium quality ale...the Adnams Broadside was good however, GK IPA also available. The buffet provided during the function I attended was excellent, really top notch, surprising as the place was so busy with 2 functions going on and a pub full of drinkers. Pub itself large and clean, worth a visit for the food at least.

Read the reviews here and asked the prices before I got to the bar. Walked out straight away into Hornchurch town centre.
|
See my comments for the Harrow. It is owned by the same company is is very expensive.
|
Yes this is a decent pub and much better than many in the immediate area. It is in a good state of repair, has a small outside area, the staff are on the whole quite friendly and the food is notably good. Someone mentioned the prices, I don't think they are really that high compared with the rest of Greater London.

Comfortable and airy, great for a relaxing drink with mates or girlfriend. Bar staff are generally very good and the beer is excellent.
|
does coors on tap which is sublime
|
my number one pub in hornchurch during the day , after 4pm you start getting people coming home from work n it gets very busy , but the staff are friendly the beer is nice the food is exceptional thats why this pub is my starting point for a drink in hornchurch
|
Not a bad place. Warm and welcoming, but as with most M+B pubs, the alcohol on offer is very very expensive, and you would need a bank loan just for one night out there.

Light, airy and spacious. Comfortably furnished, fairly average range of drinks. Good quiz on a Sunday. V handy for Hornchurch station.
