Not sure how this pub rates in winter, but we visited on hot sunny day, sat outside looking at the river and enjoyed a cracking pint of Shropshire Gold. It was the perfect beer and the perfect location at the time.

We found this by accident on Sunday. The Royal Hill serves excellent good value food, good portions too. The beer is excellent. Shropshire Gold from Salopian and XXX from Three Tuns, Bishop's Castle. Lovely snub bar and great friendly local people. Its a pretty place alongside the river. We cycled along quiet lanes to the pub. There is a campsite too and we plan to camp in the summer.

Great food at great prices and well kept real ale. Friendly and helpful staff. Truly a gem as has been mentioed. You nedd to book a table for food at weekends. The Tont is open again now.

This was a fabulous break from Christmas at home - campsite open - basic but clean (it was freezing fog most of time!)- pub really cosy and teh food was FABULOUS and also really good value. By the way Tontine is now open

Rural gem.

the tontine is now closed but the royal hill is now much better with a reasonable menu and still good beer

Lovely 18th Century pub in the Shropshire countryside, on Camra's heritage list is a true unspoilt gem consisting of two cosy rooms and tiny bar. On top of this the quality of the Salopian beers was excellent.
