Ceased to trade as a pub 7 years ago now. Now being converted in to living accommodation.

This pub is now closed and borded up although to date no sign of any To Let or For Sale boards. No great loss but then thats just my oppinion

I was a little apprehensive walking to the bar as the barman/governor looks like a hooligan (no insult intended). I was wrong to judge as he was very polite and accommodating. The pub has a pool table, dart board and a couple of plasma screens for showing Sky Sports. The pub sign outside also boasts of having a huge screen, but I did not see it so Id imagine that it is in the large sparsely decorated back room. There is also a small paved drinking area out the back. I didnt spot any real ale, but there is Hoegarden and standard lager.
This isnt a great place, but I would go back here to watch a match if in the area.

As a hounslow drinker i must say the new investors have done a good job of lightening and cleaning this place up. Beer and Ale is more lively than before and staff give reasonably good service but are always polite, Only time will tell on the Shire but im confident itll go from strength to strength. good luck too the new management.

I went in to this pub for the first time in years, as i had heard that the it was under new management. I have to say i was suitably impressed. The new staff were friendly and very welcoming. The Kronenburg was the best pint i had had in a long time, and I went on to tell the new owner, who assured me that this was because the lines are regularly cleaned twice weekly.
The decor of the place has completely changed and and it's fresh and clean. The most comfortable thing about the pub is that they make everyone, no matter what race colour or creed feel like they are the most important person in the pub.
I have to say that my friends and i had been dubious about going at first, but it was the only pub in the area open, and i can safely say that we will be going back.
It's one of the few pubs that i've been to that actually utilises it's late licence (till 1am)

Am i right in saying the Shire horse football team of 20 odd years is going to change to the Cross Lances? I played for the club 8 years ago when i believe Alan and Peter were the secretarys and managers of the club, pity too see the pub go so far downhill from what ive read and lose a very strong and committeed football team. I just hope after such bad reviews Alan and Peter are still going to run the team and get the respect they deserve. Good luck to them both i wont comment on the pub as not been around the area for a few years. Just wanted too wish the Shire Horse team well in next years season in the West Middlesex Sunday League.

I had the misfortune to visit this pub on the Friday before Christmas... The place was virtually empty except for two or three, very drunk locals, and a land'lady', more drunk than any of them, that actually slurred to me, 'Who are you looking at in that tone of voice...' To try and liven the dive up I put some money in the jukebox and spent the next ten minutes trying to find four decent tracks - one of my choices kept jumping but no-one else seemed to notice! What a sh*thole!

Went in on a Friday night at 8 and we were the only customers. We were kept company by a mangy old dog that barked at us every time we went near the bar, and a parrot that looked a bit dead. The barman was friendly and served me a nice pint of Becks, then went and sat with his mrs to watch tv at the other end of the pub. Not a bad little pub but it could do with a spring clean.
I think they must get most of their customers after work during the week cos I've seen a few people hanging around then, but I would have expected it to be a bit more lively at 8 on Friday night!
Also at the moment it has "Rave it Up!" sprayed on the window, which I found quite amusing.

If you like getting evil stares and small dark misrable places then this is the pub for you!!! , I felt like I was in Hell.
|
good Beer quality but very poor service. Everythings falling apart in this place too. The dunnys are filth and lightings terrible. My advice is walk out (if you bother to go in) do a right walk 50yards and Walla, The Cross Lances! A proper pub!!!

no bitter, no 1664, no crisps, no nuts, no good!

Dissenters don't live in Islington or Muswell Hill.
Was trying to be diplomatic, and not say "The Shire Horse is a pub frequented by BNP and Football Hooligans" - But it seems you didn't read between the lines..
However, as you seem to rate it, perhaps the pub has changed recently, if so, I apologise.

Funnily enough not many working class pubs in under invested sub-urban areas tend to be overtly Marxist in their outlook. However, if you look a little past a vanguard view you will find the Shire Horse full of honest, interesting characters. The makeup is multicultural and the atmosphere incredibly trusting and friendly, if initially wary. No real ale is it's biggest failing, but a good pint of Guiness and a plentiful array of fizzy stuff compensates. Added to this the pub has a history of charitable donations and offers the community the sponsorship of a sunday football team. Dissenters are probably best to stay in Islington or Muswell Hill for their reviews. As this socialist is proud to call the Shire Horse his local.

Tried a refit of sorts but didn't work.
This is something of a "right-wing" pub so would best avoid if I was you.

A curiosity for sure. For a long while they had one of those plastic neo-classical oil lamps in one of the corners. This wasn't a bad thing and for all I know it could still be there. Good for: Very much a locals pub.
