Must be up there for one of the smallest spoons I've been in. Which is big by normal pubs standards. A big room with a platform for more seating and also has some random underground booths. On the bar they had Ruddles, Abbot, Otter head, Peerless this is Eccles (I believe that was just their Oatmeal stout), Lytham Stout. I went for the Lytham Stout at 1.89, it was nice and well kept. Decent spoons., reasonably busy when I was in, locals seemed okay (except for one who protested at having a chalice glass), barmaid seemed friendly. The only place in Eccles it seems where you can get a decent selection of ales.

Have been a couple of times since my last visit and as you would expect for a Spoons, the ale selection keeps changing. "This Is Eccles" was my most recent tipple which is a very nice stout by Peerless. On my previous visit I had a Blackberry Porter (by Mauldons) which was superb (and unusual). Service is friendly. Some of the customers are a bit odd, for example the older gent who was hovering over my table waiting for me to finish, despite there being plenty of other vacant tables around the pub - but all part of the Spoons character!

This place has apparently had some kind of refurb relatively recently - this was my first visit though so can't comment on what it was like previously. It looks small from the outside but fairly spacious inside.
My visit was on a Saturday lunch time and it was fairly busy but I had no problem getting a seat. There was a mix of customers in. Service was quick and friendly.
On offer on the hand pumps - Fortyniner by Ringwood Brewery (the one I went for at £1.95), Doom Bar, Ruddles, and a couple of others that I can't remember.
Wouldn't have a problem with calling in again.

Truly awful Spoons and i have been in a few over the years. Service non existent, rancid pint of whatever, full of shoplifters, plastic gangsters and a group of women out on a hen night.
Dreadful!!

Apparently this Wetherspoons used to be a cinema. This can clearly be seen by looking at the odd shaped ceiling which is very colourful and angular. Plenty of wood lends the pub a little bit of character. Otherwise, its a standard Wetherspoons which was busy and had a reasonable selection of real ales - Greene King Abbot Ale, Ruddles Best, Adnams Yuletide, Brains Festive Cheer, Phoenix Wobbly Bob & Christmas Kiss and Marstons Christmas Spiced Ale. Ciders were Westons Marcle Hill and Old Rosie. Whilst other Eccles pubs have more character, this is the best place locally for real ales, unless you like Holts or Sam Smiths.

A better Wetherspoon's pub, with about 10 cask ales available - all the ales we tried we very well kept. Right opposite the tram stop so very handy for transport links. Definitely worth a visit.

very busy wetherspoons pub opp the tram terminus..usually have a wide range of beers on..well kept too..love the little alcoves opp the bar..like an aladdins cave inside.

Decent selection of ales on my visit. Handy transport links with the tram and train stops close by.

Typical small town Spoons, more drinkers than eaters. Friendly but with rather odd-tasting Pedigree.

Much nicer atmosphere in there snce the smoking ban, it used to be awfully smokey in ther, without wetherspoons usually good air filtration.

As with most other Wetherspoon pubs I have visited, it has an "old soak" element who sit there with only the one aim of getting as sozzled as time would let them. The beer is of the usual good standard, and the staff hard working. The pub facilties are ok, though the clean toilet awards that the Wetherspoon pubs have enjoyed in the past would pass this pub by, seeing the state the gents were in. It has a pleasant beer garden,(when open) good if you want to smoke, or to sit in the open (weather permitting) I would say one of the better pubs in the centre of Eccles.

Very large pub in the Wetherspoons chain. Food OK and cheap. Always has several interesting real ales kept reasonably well. Looking forward to 1st July as it can get smokey in there.
|
Still probably the most popular pub in Eccles because of the cheap beer & decent food .2 large screens in now for the sports news gives the locals something else to do.Can get very busy on united match days as the tram stop is right opposite the pub.

A huge pub with a great atmosphere, Wetherspoons is a fairly new pub that used to be a nightclub. After renevating, it became the most successful pub in the Eccles area. There is no music however and no pool or darts. This becomes irrelevent once ya soak up the bustling chit chat atmosphere. Go take a look...DRINK LOTS, EAT LOTS, HAVE FUN!
