The Prince of Wales pub name originates from the title The Prince of Wales. This is normally conferred on the heir apparent of the monarch.

Still closed and boarded up.

I came on here to have a look at reviews of this pub out of curiosity rather than anything else and virtually all the reviews are fake/plants.
I think the fact that nobody else has reviewed the pub speak volumes. The pub looks very unwelcoming from the outside and the comment about "leafy New Malden did make me laugh.
OK New Malden is quite leafy around Coombe Hill however this pub is situated in the Arse End of New Malden next to Homebase and Matalan and also not too far from the sprawling Cambridge Estate.
Avoid! ! !

Going to The Prince of Wales is always a treat and our last visit was no exception. Familiar with other upmarket establishments such as The Dorchester and The Ivy, we enjoy frequenting The Prince of Wales in Leafy New Malden away from the hustle and bustle of the West End.
I had the delightful mixed forest mushroom fricassee while my other half Penelope enjoyed the Salmon and Roasted artichokes in hollandaise sauce. The only complaint was the size of the portions. They were so generous, that neither of us had room for the sumptuous looking raspberry coulis on the sweet trolley. The visit was a joy throughout, its the fine attention to detail that sets this venue apart from others, such as the warm welcome provided by the maitre d and the ambient music which makes for a delightfully relaxed atmosphere. Its rare in this day and age to find a place that has a resident piano player, let alone one so versed with the likes of Chopin and Brahms.
A fabulous evening right through to carriages.

From the moment you set foot on the plush deep pile carpet and recieve your cheery "hello" from the jovial Welsh bartender Eamonn, you know you are in expert hands. Local and regional specialities are always on the menu at this cosy, local, family friendly establishment, just ask Eamonn for one of his "specials" for an experience that you will not forget in a hurry!
An excellent venue for that post-theatre late night snack, nothing is too much trouble for Eamonn and his staff, who can rustle up something unexpected from the kitchens at a moments notice, day or night. The carpaccio of venison with drizzled white truffle oil and panache of seasonal vegetables is highly recommended!

i would like to say what a pleasure it was to visit this establishment! The ever cheerful landlord makes every minute your in his pub a sheer joy . Draft beer is wonderful and the service was exemplary, then we go onto the food which i can only describe as exquisite !!!!!!! Lobster thermidor to die for and possible a creme brulee would not be out of place in a ramsey restaurant. A pleasure to visit such a well kept and well run gastro pub!!!!

I have drank in the Prince for 26 years and it is a working mans pub without any frills. It's regularly frequented by a band of loyal customers who like their racing with a pint. It has the cleanest beer pipes in Kingston and Eamon probably serves the best Guinness in Surrey. Can get very busy on AFC home match days.

Two handpumps on the bar, both with Courage Best clips turned round. Had the Kronenbourg, which was the best beer available, and tasted like a bog-standard lager is supposed to taste. Eamon has renovated the exterior of the building, including some hanging baskets, and it now looks quite attractive. Didnt notice any change on the inside its still a rather plain and austere pub with no endearing features, apart from perhaps the dartboard and pool table. There is a very large TV in one corner dominating the pub, with the volume (in my opinion) overly loud on my visit. But this is a straightforward, no-nonsense, boozer. Its not there for comfort, but for the dedicated boozer who wants to drink bog standard lagers and watch the racing.

Came in here before the AFC Wimbledon v Bath City game a few weeks ago. Why is there a Man Utd flag above the bar?
|
Tony loves this pub. It certainly has a unique atmosphere.

Great story about the landlord. Two office workers walked in and ask for sandwiches. The landlord (Eamon) said "We don't do them."
"But it says outside, that you do."
"It also says you will get a warm welcome, now f..k off!"
