Charterhouse, Smithfieldback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
I've recently started working at an architects firm nearby and everyone goes there for lunch at least a couple of times a week. The food is good quality sandwiches, burgers, nachos, etc. hand cut chips to die for...and for 4.95 including a soft drink....its a bargain....there's a happy hour every day but apart from that it's not so expensive. I bought my colleague a pint of Theakston for 2.90...that's not too bad in the City (is it...?) My wine was 4.30 for a very large glass. Our company likes this place...it just got new lights and paintwork this week too xxx

Found ourselves standing outside this place watching the Smithfield Nocturne Bicycle Race on Saturday, and ventured inside for refreshments. I agree with last post, great location, good outside pavement vibe, but when I have to resort to drinking overpriced Guiness instead of draught bitter, it always gets the thumbs down.

I can't comment on what it's like at night, but when I visited for a lunchtime drink recently it was incredibly depressing. Maybe it looks better in darkness, but the daylight showed up tatty furniture, chipped paint and a lot of dust. Thank god for the tables outside! It's a weird wedge-shaped building in a great location - it doesn't make sense to let it get in such a state.

Charterhouse used to be a nice, quiet little bar a few years ago. However, it has veered strongly into the trendy territory in the last couple of years, I guess to rub shoulders with similar neighbouring trendy venues like Fluid or and Fabric.
I found the service has got sloppy, the bland beer and lot more expensive and the bar became rammed and loud which isnt good for such a small venue. Still, if you enjoy this kind of thing, and know the finite differences between trip hop, acid-jazz, funk soul and the like, then you could do worse.

Looks like people either love, or loathe this place. I sit firmly in the 'love' camp.
Always a good crowd, nice single girls aplenty, reasonable drinks, good DJs upstairs on Thurs/Fri/Sat nights, open til 2am..... can't ask for much more really. Never fails to disappoint (me, in any case).

A 6th form student union common room. Rubbish beer, expensive, bouncers, loud dance music. Nothing to recommend.

Never liked this place. Nothing to commend it.

Nothing wrong with this place. Not too smokey, youngish crowd, good music just the right volume. Beer tasted a bit strange though, maybe it was off? Would definitely go back if I was in the area.

Pretentious, annoyingly crowded, noisy, smokey dive with an odd cake-slice-shaped room........the bar's too small and gets packed, and the staff are a little bit too aloof for my liking. This place has got ideas way above its station.

Usual selection of Beers and Cocktails etc, served by friendly staff to us after-work types. To make this a real treat, it's open to serve drinks until 2.00am on Friday and Saturday and there's a great atmosphere and music. Does food too (We had a massive plate of yummy snacks..) which was nicely presented and excellent value for this part of London. Great place, my fave after work drinking hole.....Keep it up...!! :0)
