Pretty bar staff but when it is busy nigh impossible to get served as bar is too small.

Best pub on London Road. Pricey though. Nice staff good mix of customers.
This place is deffo taking the mick, 3.80 for a pint (Dark Star Hophead at 3.60). Saturday 5th May 2012 lunchtime. Won't be back here in a hurry!
Excellent Pub, top quality beer, friendly staff. Good music, spacious patio garden if you want to smoke. Can't understand the negative comments, didn't think the prices were too bad. I thought the pub has lots of character, but then some people just like to grumble. I must say I had the nicest pint of Dark I've drunk for a long time.
You have a choice of great ales but also need a word with the bank manager to see if you can afford such prices!!
the prices here are ridiculous especially when you consider the competition across the road in Hanover. 4.20 For a pint of Hoegaarden and not even a particularly good one. Food menu looks good and much more reasnoably priced in comparison. Go here for the ambience, decor and food and drink tap water. Then go to the Caroline of Brunswick for a (reasonably priced)drink.
A decent selection of cask ales, but you certainly pay for it! 6.70 for two session-strength cask ales is ridiculous, even in the south of England - other Brighton pubs a lot better than the Hobgoblin don't charge anywhere near that much.
Although the ales were well kept, there are far better pubs within easy reach.

I can honestly say this is one of my favorite pubs I have ever been to. Its not for everyone but if you like rock music, friendly bar staff, and feel at home in the kind of place where burping loudly will get you a little cheer, The Hob Goblin is your kind of pub. There have been several changes, sound proofing and redecorating being the two major improvements. The old management drove this place into the ground but to me it looks like its finally back on track.

A rough old shithole frequented by weirdos
It's such a shame that this pub simply isn't what it used to be. A recent change in management has caused most of the decent staff to leave. It now has a very 'cold' atmoshere and certainly isn't a nice place to go for a drink. What was once a friendly, welcoming and laid back pub has now turned into something of a dump.
Really not a good pub at all. The kind of place where not liking Metallica is considered something of a cardinal sin by the patronage. Grubby decor, not a great selection of beer (never cared much for Hobgoblin) and a generally unwelcoming atmosphere. Still, I suppose if you're into that kind of thing its perfect.
I know someone who lives in the immediate area of this pub and the noise generated in the evening until the early hours is horendous. WHY DOESN'T THIS PUB CARE ABOUT LOCAL RESIDENTS?
The worst pub I've ever been in (since 1968!). Filthy premises, surly staff and the ale was disgusting.
i love the guy who manages this hob!!! the guy with a mohican
Interesting typical rock pub. Naturally serve a good pint of Hobgoblin. Would like to know the history of this pub - has some old stained glass windows with ships on them. Friendly staff and customers. Thought I might feel out of place with my work suit on, but there was an old lady in a wheelchair there too!
bit of a dirty feel to it. beer tasted a bit off. fairly unfriendly bar staff and odd music choices. generally felt a bit unwelcome. shame
Used to be the best pub for rock, metal, ska - good friends and a great atmospere, then the arse dropped out of the place with a series of mismanagement errors and managers themselves. - Go to the Caroline Of Brunswick instead for everything this place was + food.
Dirty, smelly, unfriendly staff and even less friendly locals, unless you enjoy being stared at and like to drink out of a glass thats never been washed do not go here it surely can't be good for your health!
Does anyone know the name of the band who supported the Fish Bros on Saturday. For a young band they performed well.
I do like a pint in here during the day. Its an interesting kind of place with interesting customers but a bit too noisy for me sone evenings but a fine old pub in a fine old part of town.
Grungy, Loud, Big Rear, Sodden Old Boozers, Shmoozzers, Cut-price Shoppers, ex Bus Drivers.... and thats just the bar staff. Where else would you hear the Cramps at 3.20 in the afternoon? Rough interior. Wonky chairs. Pool table with a deep end! A fine Brighton Pub.
My kind of pub in that it's full of greasy grungers. Music's always good, but why are so many rockers still in the belief that smoking is cool? Every time I go here I'm forced out coughing and spluttering a couple of hours later. An interesting crowd visually, goths to gays to grungers. Interestingly enough (or not!), the only time I've ever been slagged off for my tattoos was in here, of all bleeding places. Sells Hobgoblin as well, how apt.
The rockers in this place smell and make me feel sad. It's like meeting all the people from school who didnt amount to much in one place.
what an immediate change paul has made to this pub. Beer is much better, toilets don't smell and the upstairs bar will be open soon hopefully. Keep up the good work Paul.
not bad, forced in there by mates mainly, a pint of hobgoblin is pritty bad and wouldnt touch the food, a trip to A&E the result. Guests ales make it slightly better, big rear garden (not technically a garden, cement hole really but not bad) quite friendly pub, late licence makes it a little more appealing.
Hey... we played The Hobgoblin with my band, Bruce Banner, June 1st. I would love to get in touch with the people working that night...so please respond here with a contactadress or e-mail me at [email protected]
I intend to have my last Hobgoblin experience this week. I expect wall-to-wall rrrawk, groovy people and average beer. Farewell, Hobgoblin xxx
This place smells, Flat beer, miserable bar staff !
a great pub, one for true rockers, well the only one in brighton, and it has a late licence on fridays and saturdays, the beer isnt that bad really, and it is a hell of lot cheper than the bars in town.
ROCK ON!!!

Really just about the only true alternative pub left in Brighton. The food is appalling, but the clientele, bar staff and atmosphere are the best. Regular live music which is usually free entry, and a great big beer garden out back which on summer nights is idyllic.

warm cider, an atmosphere of a steaming medievil hovel, or somthing out of the life of brian wondered if i had strolled into a sad 80's time warp, the only advice is to keep the jukebox and flatten the rest

The beer has recently improved (shock horror!) and this pub does have its goth-like fans. But it's noisy, not particularly pleasant and the toilets are horrible.

Last hang out of Brighton weirdos; goths, rockers, punks, skins etc. Famous for appauling beer and toilets but great for people watching
