Profile information

Regular participant in the Brighton and Southdowns Aletrail, I've been to most of the best pubs in the area plus quite a few awful ones! My main criterion is quality of real ale, but the premises and staff also matter.

The Badgers Watch, Peacehaven

It's a gastropub so my expectations weren't all that
high for the beer. Beer was dreadful and expensive, but the place is within walking distance from home. Will not be going back again, the nearby Telscombe Tavern has much better beer.

The Hobgoblin, Brighton

The worst pub I've ever been in (since 1968!). Filthy premises, surly staff and the ale was disgusting.

The Jolly Boatman, Newhaven

Really well kept selection of ales. Generally 3 guest ales plus Harveys best (for the customers who won't drink anything else). Free juke box, free pool on Wednesdays, friendly staff and regular live music and quiz nights. Also it's the cheapest pub in the area.
