Popped in whilst staying locally on holiday this past week.
Seems to be full of character, but unfortunately we only stayed for one drink as it was a sunday and they weren't doing the kids menu, which is why we had gone in there. Not sure why exactly, but the barmaid wasn't in the mood for chatting and gave us a "take it or leave it" look - so we left. Not criticising (well, not too much) as a pub is a pub and not a childrens playground, but maybe a mention on their website would've saved us a wasted trip.
Beer garden was also a bit of a letdown to be honest, but overall it seemed an "ok" sort of place, but just a 5/10 from me..

What a great pub. Four of us had a very enjoyable lunch after walking the dog on Bigbury beach on the Saturday after New Year. The food was excellent - three of us had the chicken, winter vegetables and spring onion soup and it was a meal in itself, with good chunks of chicken breast and good quality vegetables. My daughter had the fish and chips and was very happy with her choice. For ales, Sharps Doom Bar and Teignworthu Old Moggie were available on gravity and both were very fine. A lovely bar with the fire on at one end, and they are very dog friendly. Service was very good, but friendly. The family who now run the pub have been there about a year now and are doing a great job. We will definitely be back when we visit the area again and would not hesitate to recommend this pub to others

Just got back from 2 weeks in Ringmore. I am delighted to say that the new owners have improved the food considerably! The beer is very well kept..Doombar is the house ale, but they always have another two on as well...Dartmoor Jail Ale was particularly nice!

Just got back from a week in Ringmore. Food & beer were superb, as was the friendly staff. Sadly the owner is leaving in September, and the pub is being taken over by the chef from the Pilchard on Burgh Island( Not the owner of Burgh Island who doesnt like tourists using the Pilchard!)

Our local , when we are on holiday in Devon, it has changed hands a few times since we first visited. The present owner is the best since James was in charge!
Good food, and excellent beer.

Nice Pub, Friday night is best for atmosphere. Beer a little dear but food nice. Saying that, if you have experienced FRYER TUCKS in Challaborough, The WORST, OVER PRICED. COLD, RE-HEATED, DISGUSTING FISH AND CHIP SHOP IN THE UK, Believe me DO NOT GO THERE, Go to the pub instead

Went here for the second time since the summer just after Christmas. What a change! Seems the rummer is that the landlords have split and the Yank has left! The food was 'different' and there was just something missing. We did not have a great time even the landlady seemed more interested in giving orders than taking them. This summer it was just so much better! We are planning to be back in the spring to this lovely area... but will be giving the JE a miss. Shame as it was such nice place.

This is a fine little pub which is well worth a stroll to from nearby Bigbury on Sea or Challaborough. Was great to find a relaxed, not too busy pub and a hot summer's Saturday afternoon when the nearby resorts are so busy. Food seemed good and the beer garden is a real bonus when the weather is good.

We satyed in Challaborough Bay and walked upto this pub on our last evening, shame as it was bloody excellent. Friendly staff, great food and nice ale. What more do you want from a pub?Try it

We visited the Journey's End based on the reviews here.
It's a lovely pub, although there are nicer ones nearby. We booked for dinner and were pleased to be informed that the menu wasn't yet available as the Chef prepares a fresh menu each night.
However, we ended up waiting almost an hour for our food - although when it arrived it was worth waiting for. The staff were apologetic and gave us a free pint while we were waiting, so it's not a major gripe (and we were in no rush to leave anyway).
I think we caught them on a particularly busy week night, so I'd certainly been keen to go back.
Worth a visit - esp. if you want to take your dog along - but there are nicer pubs in that part of the world (e.g. Dolphin Inn at Kingston).

Just had dinner there tonight. The steak was just perfect. this is a pub worth going to and spending all day tasting teh real ales on gravity feed . The ones that I sampled were well cared for and just thr right temperature. Paul the landlord is an American and seems to actually know the brews... which for an American is strange. Both he and his wife Julie are welcoming and will do what they can to help plan your walks in the local area.
This pub is a must go to in my book! I will be sending everyone I know here. At the moment they are not doing rooms, but it they tell me that they are redecorating right now. The local B& B Aymer House is wonderful and Pauls was right about their breakfasts there... huge!
But the JE is a wonderful rural pub with all the charm that a place like this should have. The Landlords should be proud of what they have done. The locals tell me that since they took the place over at the end of July last year, the pub has never been better.
Be careful for Friday nights though. It is locals night and they all seem to be there at the same time! But you are always made to feel welcome by all.
The food is wonderful and affordable and well presented! This pub is a must!!!

I visited this pub last month for the first time and agree with the last poster. All the beer I tried was well kept and it was good to see some unusual choices.
We only called in with the dog for a few drinks but were made very welcome by the owner and his wife

I wanted to leave my own reveiw but after reading some of the others that have already been posted I have to say that I couldn't agree more that this place should not be missed. Since the new owners (one of whom is an American - something I cannot fault him on!) have managed according to the locals who I talked to, turn this place around. I was made to feel welcome and as if I had walked through my own front door. They welcome dogs, and even make sure that even they get a treat. Mine was a wonderful lunch it was so nice that I came back for dinner that same evening. I had the fish pie and it was perfect. I have read the other postings and take exception to the only negative one writted by nroskilly, what an idiot! Where he came up with any of that is beyond me he must be talking about somewhere else! I assure you all that what he has writted is nonsesnse and sounds as if he had had an arguments with his wife and was already in a bad mood from it and needed to take it out on some-one. Too bad he did so with this pub, he couldn't be more wrong. Anway stupudity aside this pub is worth a visit. You are welcomed with open arms, the food is delicious and affordable and the new landlords take pride in supporting local producers which shows. The real ales on gravity feed is nice to see, and each is cared for properly. PLAn A TRIP TO THIS PUB NOW!

The Journey's End Inn Ringmore is the one of the loveliest pubs I have visited, the food is prepared and presented with great care, the choices are no overwhelming and everything that we ate you could tell was freshly cooked.
We understand that the landlord are new, they should commended for their welcoming and warm attentiveness to locals and visitors.
The choice of real ales is great on gravity fed, we enjoyed a sample of each! Very tasty and well kept. Mostly supporting local breweries.
The Devon steak I enjoyed was perfectly cooked and melted in my mouth!
This is definitely a destination pub, surrounded by beautiful walks through the countryside and the coast. Not to be missed!!!

This is one of the worst pubs I've been to. We stayed locally in a B+B and the B+B said that the local pub might be worth a try, as it had new owners. The main bar is okay, but there is a miserable conservatory attached where non-smokers need to eat. There were only four items on the main menu (so between us we sampled 50% of them). My wife's fish pie wasn't too bad, but very light on fish. My main course, a pork chop, was quite sad - one thin chop and very little to go with it - a few miserable sliced carrots and frozen peas. One spoonful of mash stared apologetically up at me. As each main is between 9 and 10, we felt the value to be particularly poor. I complained about the food and received a very arrogant, snotty reply. There was clear sense that this is a pub in a tourist area with passing trade, and the new owners could not really care. The beer wasn't great, either. Ales are racked up at the back of the bar and in Summer would be far too warm. My pint wasn't prepared properly and tasted of filings. So, best avoided.

Great atmosphere, delicious stew, excellent beer. I hear the pub has become really buzzy since the new owners, Paul and Juliette took over. I sampled a few of their real ales - all good: fresh tasting and good temperature. I had Juliette's beef stew cooked in Guinness - didn't miss a drop of the gravy.
The walks around there are fantastic. I stayed the night - the rooms are not given away, but mine was clean, really comfy double bed with ensuite. Breakfast is basically anything you want made to order.

What a difference new owners make! A young couple, warmly embraced by the kind folk of Ringmore, serving generous, wonderfully prepared meals (and very reasonibly priced too), local beers, dogs once againg welcomed (more than just tolerated) a pub full of locals every evening, warm, did I say friendly? Very much so. The place was very busy, but the publican, an American, was very welcoming and his wife (a chef from London; mainly in the kitchen) all smiles no matter who or how many showed up, even late. I had a stew that rivalled anything Ramsey could have made. A party of 12 asked for a late supper at 9:30! No problem. One lady exclaimed, looking at her Haddock (all crispy blonde - the battered fish, not the lady), "It's not a side of fish it's a whale!" Everyone was happy, the place was abuzz, peace reigned (no loud jukebox), a village pub as we used to know and love. We'll definitely be back!

Hugely improved since new owner arrived this summer with interesting range of micros on gravity from local brewers though not the cider it did back in 2004. Beer Festival this weekend (6-8 October). Good food and friendly though slightlt eccentric American landlord.

Recently visited Pub. wasn't Impressed. Also had to wait over on hour for Food, then when it arrived, it was terrible. I ordered Fish Chips. arrived Swimming in grease! How can you get Fish + Chips wrong!
Landlord also needs to work on his people skills.

Not a very busy Saturday evening when visited and yet it took an hour for the food order to appear. some had had enough and the Landlord was less than hospitable and ejected a couple from the pub. Couldnt possibly reccomend this pub.Beer ok. Host not ok

This is really an excellent pub. Good food and a decent range of beers - it's recently had new managers brought in (the previous team have left to revive another pub) who hopefully won't spoil it.
Well worth a journey - they have a car park on the main road opposite the church, 2 mins walk from the pub itself, so no need to drive into the village itself (it's very narrow).
