Three of us had a light lunch here yesterday: the service was friendly, swift and attentive without being overbearing, the menu provided a wide choice at what I thought very reasonable prices for the area (my plate of fish and chips with peas and tartar sauce was £5.99), the ambiance was good- and my pint of Old Speckled Hen slipped down very easily. Recommended.

Beautiful old building from the outside but as soon as I entered the door I immediately noticed slightly overloud background music playing. All I wanted was a lunchtime pint and a sandwich, but I didn't see any of the latter on the menu, and no bar staff to ask. Whether they had what I wanted or not, the thought of sitting listening to that music for 40-45 minutes was far from appealing, so I legged it. The shortest time I have ever spent in a pub.

A Chef & Brewer establishment so you kind of know what you're going to get, but the ale range was good, the service attentive and the place was welcoming enough. Perhaps suffering from being away from the Tylers Green centre, where the triumvirate of pubs had attracted the majority of the Wednesday night clientele, but one does suspect this place is generally judged on its dry, rather than wet offerings.

We used this pub many years ago so paid it a visit and wish we had not, what has gone so badly wrong. The staff had no real direction, the beer was served in a dirty glass, food was bland and dull as dish water and no one seemed to give a dam. This has turned into a badly managed chef and brewer, such a shame as its in a lovely spot.

lovely pub, specially for a good old family lunch on a summers day

Nothing wrong with the pub, or the staff, but would have to question the ignorant Patrons that were in there last night....with the exception of 2, EVERYONE left the door wide open when they came in/went out on a damn cold night. No bloody manners or consideration for anyone else, and typifies the arrogance of most people who live in and around the area.

went there saturday, london pride and taylors landlord were spot on as was the food (duck and porcini ravioli)!!!! bar staff were lovely

Used to be OK for pub lunch. Visited today with a friend, baguette was all bread and no filling, 10 small chips on plate, salad with nothing but lettuce. No longer value for money, was never fantastic but used to be adequate, now supremely unsatisfying and will be taking my custom elsewhere.

Standard Chef & Brewer interior, which is a shame as it is a striking old building which deserves better. Last time when I was there I complained about an underfilled baguette, and despite getting a refund, was informed that the sparse method of filling was 'company policy'. So it's company policy to rip you off? Hmmm...

This is a pub forum and not a food forum, but if I really have to comment about the food, it is dire, boil in the bag, unimaginative over priced bland muck served indifferently by disinterested staff to people whose palates are too jaded to notice.
The beer is sparkled, over chilled and barely drinkable.
The premises have just been done up, and their exclusion zone for smokers is now total. I don't smoke, but I see no reason why a place climing to be a pub should impose moral values on its customers.
Shame they aren't as discriminatory about kids. It's like being in a play school.
This place should be torn down, brick by brick, and replaced by a McDonalds. It's no good to man nor beast as it is, for it is neither a pub nor a proper restaurant - despite charging premium prices.

Lovely pub, but one of the Chef and Brewer chain.

This pub really does serve the best food in the whole of Bucks....the service is very good and the staff are friendly. Good value for money too!
