Three of us had a light lunch here yesterday: the service was friendly, swift and attentive without being overbearing, the menu provided a wide choice at what I thought very reasonable prices for the area (my plate of fish and chips with peas and tartar sauce was £5.99), the ambiance was good- and my pint of Old Speckled Hen slipped down very easily. Recommended. pubsampler - 11 Mar 2016 10:08 |
Beautiful old building from the outside but as soon as I entered the door I immediately noticed slightly overloud background music playing. All I wanted was a lunchtime pint and a sandwich, but I didn't see any of the latter on the menu, and no bar staff to ask. Whether they had what I wanted or not, the thought of sitting listening to that music for 40-45 minutes was far from appealing, so I legged it. The shortest time I have ever spent in a pub. fernman - 3 Apr 2015 09:41 |
A Chef & Brewer establishment so you kind of know what you're going to get, but the ale range was good, the service attentive and the place was welcoming enough. Perhaps suffering from being away from the Tylers Green centre, where the triumvirate of pubs had attracted the majority of the Wednesday night clientele, but one does suspect this place is generally judged on its dry, rather than wet offerings. We used this pub many years ago so paid it a visit and wish we had not, what has gone so badly wrong. The staff had no real direction, the beer was served in a dirty glass, food was bland and dull as dish water and no one seemed to give a dam. This has turned into a badly managed chef and brewer, such a shame as its in a lovely spot. mrslandingham - 2 Mar 2014 14:07 |
