Vastly improved. Ate there last week. Decent menu with a choice of specials all at reasonable prices. Washed with a good pint of Jail Ale. Friendly and knowledgeable staff on quite a lively quiz night (Tuesday).

Topsham one of my favourite places in Britain even if it is on the expensive side. Great location with outdoor seating overlooking the river, but the weather was not being co-operative when I visited. Inside is fairly compact with most space given over to eating. Dartmoor Jail Ale went down well

We certainly think that this is the best pub in Topsham even if others don't. It's cosy on the inside and the beer garden has some stunning views. It's also away from all the hustle and bustle of Topshams high street. 9/10

Large pub by the river. 3 Otter beers and Tribute on offer yesterday with prices between 2.80 and 3.15 - I'd consider that expensive for the area. Whilst the Otter Bitter and Amber both tasted fine, I'm nor sure how they are dispensed. The handpumps are clearly fake so it must either be electric or some sort of pressure.
Extensive and expensive menu on display. Judging by the number of staff (3 in the Kitchen and 2 behind the bar) I assume it must get busy but it wasn't when we arrived about 1430.

Last month I had a Sunday lunch here and it was good, but the staff seemed stressed and it seemed understaffed to me.
Otter ales,not very exciting.

Great location let down by poor food and service. Could be so much better if the management and bar staff just showed a little more 'character'. Please, please avoid the sunday 'roast' - the meat was overcooked, the potatoes were burnt, the vegetables were mushy and the whole thing was swimming in bisto gravy. Disgusting.

Another charming riverside pub somewhat let down by charmless management and staff.

I would avoid this pub, unless you can afford to throw money away. I was charged 3.15 for a bitter shandy! It is also a very scruffy establishment.
|
Great location to watch the riverside action if the sun is out. Beers OK and staff friendly.
|
Brilliant setting if the weather's nice and you can sit outside by the river, facinating when the tides coming in. Food was good and beer ok if you stick to those served by pump rather than gravity.
|
Another pub that has casks stuck onthe back bar rather than in the cellar. Bestto avoid these and stick to those on the pumps. Otherwise a run of the mill food led pub.

I visited Topsham recently for several weeks from Australia and found the Passage a wonderful place, with pardon the pun the best plaice I've ever eaten, the other food was pretty damn good too. The staff and the locals are extremely friendly and made a wild colonial boy feel very welcome. Mine hosts, Graham and Tracy are amongst the best publicans I have met in over 45 years' of drinking! They have a great choice of real ale, Otter my favourite, which is well kept and a small but good selection of wine.

Staff seem friendly enough, which is just as well because they are hopeless in every other respect. Beer below average, as is the food and service. The staff were very pleasant, but they're supposed to be running a pub, not hosting a chat show.

lovely pub right on the estuary. very friendly bunch too.

A very pleasant pub to wile away the time on a Sunday afternoon. They have a large open air seating area by the river, just over the road, where it's nice to sit and drink your beer and watch the world go by. There were 4 draught beers when I visited and the Otter Ale, which is served directly from the cask, is very nice too. Food seems to be served all day as well, an added bonus.

On the day best all round pub in Topsham-good food, good service and above average beer quality.
|
Cosy pub hidden on the small streets down by the river. There is a large emphasis on food here with a wide menu, and including many fresh fish specials. I had the skate wing which was gorgeous. Apparently the service can be a bit slow, but it was quick when I was there last weekend. Most of the eating areas are non-smoking. The beer seems to be well kept - Otter Best, London Pride are regulars apparently.
