Knew that this place was gonna be a big expensive foody kind of place so my girlfriend and i just bought one pint each and then went and sat outside in the beer garden.

This big "pub" seems more of a restaurant but pleasant nevertheless. I imagine it might be busy in the peak tourist season but we enjoyed a peacefull lunch (in October). Service was efficient and the food was fine, beer also good though I don't remember exactly what it was.

Visited this pub twice over the recent Spring Bank Holiday. Very nice interior, beer good and staff friendly. Excellent (although a bit pricey) Ploughmans. A large pub popular with tourists - but it still manages to feel inviting with a pleasant atmosphere.

Had a meal here last night with Shandychica and the lad. The food was tasty, well presented and freshly cooked. The Bass was well kept and shandy up to standard. Friendly staff and welcomimg, with an open fire in the lounge. Didn't visit the public bar but it seemed well used for early on a Thursday night.
Perhaps tending towards the food side in the lounge, but several were sat at bar with a pint. The bar height did seem a little high, felt a little like the first day at school, for a small child..... But overall I will definatly visit again and have recommended others to visit.

There have been a few problems with the new premises here but the landlord is very willing to listen. The locals were upset because the public bar was made bigger and people were allowed to use it for dining. You cannot eat in there now. True, the bars afre too high for sitting to.The staff are settling in and its a pity that all the OLD bar staff were not replaced....The beer is still good and reasonably priced and the pub has a good atmosphere.

it has no atmospher not the old staff bar staff not realy watching if your glass is empty wondering around in a circle main bar to high

Pub now open!

Reconstruction after the fire of '06 is now well advanced. The new establishment will be a bit bigger, I gather. Do hope it lives up to the hopes of those who had visited and enjoyed it ebfore the fire. No rating.

great food, great atmosphere, lovely large gardens, quiet. I have eaten here several times for business, a summer company bar-b-q and a quiet candle lit meal and all were excellent. reasonable price, dog friendly garden. highly recommended

My wife and I are devastated at this news. We have stayed at the Blue Ball several times over the past ten years. We were planning another visit shortly. We are so sad that this will not now happen, and we are not to see this wonderful pub again.
Our thoughts and prayers got to Roger, his family and staff, who have made our visits so memorable.

Reported on BBC News website as having been destroyed by fire last night.

A good range of quality food for veggie and meat eaters in a pleasant atmosphere. Staff are always helpful and pleasant - been back several times and not been disappointed.

Pleasent old pub with food on the main road above Sidmouth. Good for a pitstop, there's plenty good food and beer but it is a bit of a travellers rest stop that can look like God's waiting room.
Filled a gap though.

A very friendly and well run pub with superb accommodation and food. Extremely friendly and efficient staff. Good selection of real ales. Real fires and plenty of room, 3 bars plus outside area.
