Loved this pub - full of interest and history.
Beers were all Greene King and avoided. Another pint of Euro Fizz for me.
Worth checking out.

Foul Brummie scum in the front bar again this evening, why these vermin get served I really don't know. I guess the Landlady needs to hit Greedy Kings targets.

Good food served promptly, Greene King ales all in good condition

The Garrick is the oldest pub in Stratford and is a typical old Stratford buildings and slap bang in the centre of town. There is a small bar area at the front, with a corridor to the side of the serving area leading to a larger room and a continuation of the corridor, which both serve as dining areas. It was busy on our Sunday afternoon visit. Beers were from the Greene King range - IPA, Old Speckled Hen & Abbot. There was also one called Garricks Shakesbeer. I'm like to bet it was another option from the Greene King stable. Nice to visit, but not the best place for drinkers.

Contrary to the conclusions drawn by many below, I was served food quickly and efficiently, having pointed out that I was on a limited time schedule. This was at the height of the Season, too. Not massively expensive either. A stunning building, of course ... without and within.

A great old pub, friendly and welcoming. A top pint of addlestones. Went in for a pint, stayed all night. Didn't have the food but it smelt nice, and was well priced. Would come back just for the atmosphere.

Some may say it's one of the better Greene King pubs in Stratfraud. Regulars mostly from the Grim Industrial North, other clients are daytrippers from the North or worse, Wales. If you wish to be brought down to the level of Stanley Ogden, this is for you. Vile.

Pleasant enough pub. Choice of ales, staff friendly as well as the customers. Definately would use again.

Spent a weekend in Stratford and went in The Garrick due to its appearance in the GPG. Beautiful old building, lots of old photos. Cracking Sunday lunch, and good beer.

Never been much of a fan of Stratford as a whole, plastic olde England for American and Japanese tourists.....Poundland and souvenir shop signs detracting from the interesting architecture.....bung a couple of quid on everything and the punters will lap it up. Quite liked this pub though, looks the part and you could probably have a bit of a session in it if you could monopolise the front bar. Real ale was rather nice, cider was rather nice, bar staff was rather nice...you get the drift...worth a vist or two.

Nice small interior - Aspall's cyder caught our eye - very refreshing pint @ 3.25 - Old Speckled Hen @ 3.00 per pint - very pleasant bar staff - well worth a visit
|
It says it is the oldest pub in Stratford! Good friendly bar staff and a nice pint of Greene King LBW which was a guest beer. Would visit again!

Touristy pub that nevertheless retains character. the tudor exterior is great, the pub inside has an original layout with a front and back bar but pretty standard modern fittings. Greene King range was acceptable, with IPA, Abbott & guests. All kept well that I tried. Not bad but nothing amazing.

Money grabbing corporate that is Greene King, giving tourists and daytrippers a glimpse of Old England. No locals to speak of. The only regulars are off duty staff from other GK pubs nearby.

Visited this pub on Christmas Eve. There is a smallish, cosy-looking bar at the front of the pub and another slightly larger one at the back. My companion and I sat in the back bar which is in need of a lick of paint and some new furniture. Like the reviewer of 24/06/07, I think I may have been overcharged. A pint of Rocking Rudolph (which was not well kept) and a large glass of dry white wine set me back 7.50. Has the potential to be a very nice pub in the right hands.

Enjoyed a quick pint of Abbott in the front bar. The beer was very good and everyone was pleasant enough. Had a peek at the menu and it all seemed quite reasonable. They will serve you the side dishes as nibbles if you want. Didn't venture past the front bar, but this is a must for visitors to the town. The dog was welcome in the front bar.

Unfortunately only saw GK - you will probably find that the 'Guest' is a brewery that GK took over and closed down

Nice place to drink but it is right on the tourist trail.
The guest ale is always the one to go for. I can't stand Greene King!

This pub has got one of the most impressive mediaeval frontages I have seen, dating back to 14th century. Claims to be the oldest in Stratford. There is a front bar, leading further into the building to larger drinking and dining area. The well-kept cask beers on offer were greene-king ipa, abbot, speckled hen, with a guest of st.austell tribute Cornish ale. Well worth a visit if you particularly like old english pubs. Rating = 9

We have used this pub for a few years on our visits to Stratford (as it was non smoking) but now they require you "to be seated" by a memer of staff which means that you cant just drink at the back tables any longer.
The beer is well kept. Abbott as good as anywhere else of late. You do need to mind your change though! The barman caught me the first night with the short change routine. 2.25 change from a tenner for a Pinot Grigio (large) and a pint of Abbott (later found to be 2.60). Should have been 6.75. I let it go but we went back the next night and the cheeky @@@ did it again although this time I queried it. I am afraid he reacted like it was a common occurence.
We tried again to get in here on a Saturday night at about 9-30 but it was heaving and we didnt want to stand. We went down to the Pen and Parchment forced ourselves to sit outside as the smoke was awful inside and had an Abbot of amazingly similar quality and a Pinot Grigio (large) for exactly the same price 6.75 but I got the right change!

May 2007 We went to the Garrick Inn for a meal before going to see a show in the Courtyard Theatre. The fact the whole place is non-smoking was a plus. The menu had plenty of appetising choices and veggie options. We had a great meal, tasty, good portion and not too pricey. We didn't have to wait long at all for it. I wasn't too impressed with one of the barstaff though, I had to take my wine back as the glass had a lipstick mark on it (no not my own) and the barman just tipped the same wine into another glass!

Old school boozer at the front and a nice restaurant in the back. They don't mind you using a table for sitting and drinking at in the restuarant either whcih is nice. Food is good. So much better now it's no smoking throughout.

This is a great place if you stay in the front room. Good beer and conversation. Love the front room.
The back area is crazy-busy. Hate the back room. Last time we were there, an hour wait for meal preparation was quoted. Nothing on that menu should take more than 15 minutes. The staff was a bitt frazzled as well, and the cleanliness was poor.
|
Sorry to diasgree but this place, much like the great actor it's named after, is all frippery and charm on the outside but a vacuous twonk on the inside.
Never, ever go there if it's busy - EVER! Waiitng nearly 2 hours for your food, changing their mind about what's available after you've ordered no less than four, yes FOUR times and when you finally get it, it STILL isn't what you've ordered! And the beer was off. And the staff were ill-trained and utterly-butterly useless. Bearing in mind I went there in the winter, can you imagine how crap it's be in the tourist season?
The Windmill pub is only 5 mins away - go there instead.
There's enough timber beaming in Stratford-Upon-Avon to mean you never, ever have to go to the Garrick... unless you're a woodworm. (In which case I positively endorse it)
|
The perfect pub! Good beer, good food (both sensibly priced), friendly staff, no smoking and a healthy mixture of locals and tourists. The music is at a level loud enough to hear, but still enabling conversations to take place. Even on a busy May Bank holiday you could still find a seat. I wish I lived nearer.

Great pub! Loved the historic old building. One of many of that type building along High St. Not too crowded even though it was lunchtime on a Saturday. Far enough from Willy's birthplace to keep MOST of the tourists away.
|
Historic timber framed pub in High Street. Had good pint of Hook Norton in small front room. Another Stratford pub giving substantial space over to a restaurant
