When you walk in the door this pub screams 'Whitbread', and yes, I was right it is a ex-Whitbread house. But the service was friendly and the beer was good. I will visit again.

We have visited the Otter 3 time recently , not sure if it's the barmain or she is the landlady, but she is sour faced and rude, not a hello can I help...and not a goodbye and thank you...It's a shame as a nice pub foods quite good and the beer is good. We will not be going there again .

Visited this pub recently and absolutely loved it! Friends over from the Australia wished to visit a "traditional english pub" so I found them one. Located next to a village green it is everything a village pub should be. Nice staff, nice atmosphere and traditional decor. It was a Sunday so I ordered the roast (which was difficult as their menu had so many nice choices not to mention a specials board!) and it was huge and delicious! Well worth 9! Friends ordered Ostrich which I was told was beautiful, finished off with homemade fruit crumble and custard, toffee crunch pie and lemon meringue pie all served with cream and icecream. These guys are not shy when it comes to portions it was like being at home with your Mum. Was encouraged into doing the locals "meat draw" (I didnt win anything!) while listening to a rather funny piano player, classic entertainment! Would definately return!

Visited the Otter last Thursday (17/12/09), the first visit for ages. When I bought the first round, the barman threw the change at me, missing my outstretched hand, and rolling on the bar. Later, seated at the side, I could see in the kitchen. A waitress was just leaving with two plates for the restaurant, when the same barman grabbed a handful of chips from one of the plates. He then came round the bar, wiping tables with one hand, cramming chips into his mouth with the other. When it came to our last round, the pub had quietened, and there were only two barstaff and 1 customer at the bar, chatting. When I went up and asked to be served, all three looked at me as if I was exceedingly rude for interrupting their chat. There appeared not to be anyone responsible in charge. It's a shame, as the beer (Ringwood Best, Otter bitter) was excellent, but until the sraff and management change, wild horses won't drag me back there.

After being let down by the Old Forge by the meals COLD & SLOW. We decided to go else were.We then went to The Otter just up the road. Its a true traditional English Pub with great ales i suggest the Ringwood bitters by the way, like nectar. They managed to fit us in only just, as it was quite busy. I had Scallops to start then Lamb shank for main, my wife skipped the starter and decided for the dessert option.for main she had Ostrich steak slightly to rare for her but not to bad, she finished off with homemade crumble. Over all we loved the Food, Staff and overall atmosphere. Just wished we lived closer than fareham

Family used to be a regular here for both pub and the restaurant element. Unfortunatly no longer go there after a dispute with the lanladys son over a valid problem with a meal (can assure you, we are not the complaining type having been in the service industry all our lives). After a rude response he continued to sit with his friends for the rest of the night taking the mick, shocking as the large party we were with had spent a fortune in this place that night and many times before. This was about a year ago now, but every time before this the pub had always been at the least reasonable.

Very varied quality food, eaten there several times this year sometimes good sometimes really bad - recently more bad that good unfortunatly.

A classy pub with a homely restaurant area. The food is superb and the staff are great.

After a succession of very poor meals in various pubs and restaurants, The Otter has restored my faith in eating out! I found it clean (always nice not to be presented with someone elses lipstick on your glass), a good relaxed atmosphere, the service was very attentive but not over powering, and the food was fabulous. The portions of food are huge....and tasty - not just bland rubbish to fill the plate up. Would recommend booking.

I recommend this great pub for Sunday Lunch. Extensive menu with specials and choice of 2 roast lunches (7.95). Big portions, well presented. Homemade Chocolate Mousse was delightful. Same attentive staff as previous comments.

I like it. liked it when i was 5 and ate peanuts in the beer garden, like it now i can legally drink. the christmas decorations are a sight to behold, i challenge you to find a single wall or ceiling space without tinsel.

This pub has the nicest beer garden ever, and a large car park. Very nice inn. Friendly staff

Situated just off Junction 12 of the M25, it is in a very quiet location. The large car park is behind the pub. It has a main restaurent area to the rear of the premisis and a large but homely/traditional bar area at the front. The pub overlooks what I would describe as a village green area. It is a very popular pub with people from the surrounding area and also with people from Southampton and Winchester. Excellent service, great real ales, superb food. A must for anyone in the area
