Popped in yesterday on my way into Worthing town centre from the railway station. Had a super pint of Adnams Southwold bitter and chatted for half an hour with the Landlord who greeted me very warmly, The pub was quiet but I could just feel a century of more of atmosphere here and it really is (to use an over utilised cliche), a traditional pub. If I lived locally I'd certainly make it a regular haunt.

Visited again last month after an absence of about 4 years. Nothing much changed inside. Was a fairly busy Sunday lunchtime with people waiting for the raffle. Beer choice disappointingly poor for a CAMRA good beer guide pub. 4 beers on arrival shortly went down to 3 with the barman stating it would be 2 shortly. Left only with a choice of Adnams or greene King and no prospect of the other pumps having other beers put on so we left and went elsewhere

A nice corner plot locals pub, about a 5 minute walk from Worthing station.
A selection of 3 ales on the pumps of which the Summer Lightening I had was very good.
Busy with locals that created a homely atmosphere, contrary to the other reports myself and my crowd had no problem getting served.
All in all a decent locals pub that should be sought out when in worthing.

OK so the beer is none to bad, the garden area passes muster but for crying out loud I do not like to be kept waiting by the bar person sending a text on the mobile!! Locals not all that friendly either!

Good back street local with proper beer. The mild was Ansells. They do now have a basic bar menu, pasty, chips and beans being typical. A gastro pub it aint but thank the Lord for that! A good pub in an area strangely devoid of good pubs.

As everyone says, a good traditional pub which I visit a least once a week. It no longer does food. There are 4 real ales--Harvey's, Summer Lightning, Banks's Original (a midlands Mild) and a guest--invariable in good condition. Activities include quizzes, darts, and Sunday jazz. Before it sounds like I'm in cahoots with the owners, I could point out that the bar staff are sometimes in a world of their own.

Thwaites Nutty Black, Summer Lightning, Harveys, gkipa. S/L was pretty good, Harveys was dull, rather poor. A locals bar & not a very enthusiastic welcome; their website mentions shuffleboard but the bar-lady looked dumbfounded when I asked about it, one friendly chap overheard & explained it required an 8ft board that used to emerge on the occasional Sunday. Standard pub furniture, small tv showing racing, dartboard to the right occupied by very young drinkers. This was just a flying visit to Worthing, if I go back I dont think RC will make the list.

Very nice folks, attentive barstaff, clean, quiet, Adnams Broadside a bit dear @ 2.80 but very tasty.

This is an excellent Beer Pub. I have been a number of times over the last two months and there has always been a varied selection of well kept Bitters. Usualy Four different brews at a time and these they change often so there is no chance of getting bored with one brew.
The Bar Staff are friendly and actualy care about the products they are surveing. Its warm and friendly and has locals singing and playing music on Thursday nights.
To be avoided if you like fake plastic pubs and a must if you like real pubs, real people and real ale.

Is this the friendliest pub in Sussex? If not I've yet to find it! Unspoilt gem in central Worthing with 4 real ales and top lunchtime nosh. On the "must visit" list for anyone with a penchant for the authentic
