Definitely worth more than 3 / 10. Had a beer fest on over the bank holiday weekend and it was well attended. Service was a little slow, but ales were well kept. It does have a restaurant feel about it, but don't let this put you off.

I should add, this places deserves a vastly higher rating than the dismal 3/10 it currently holds (based mainly on ratings given before the big 2009 revamp). This pub is easily a solid 7/10 overall, possibly 8/10. Highly recommended.

Eaten and drunk here on many an occasion in the last five years or so. It's friendly, busy and the food is bloody good. They're open for breakfast, which is useful when one has had to dash out first thing in the morning. The quality of meat (from a local farm near Hascombe) is truly sumptuous. Good beers and representative selection of ciders. Friendly service. Yeah, it's part of a small national pubco, but it's one of the best pubs in the area. Don't even think of the other two Cranleigh pubs - grotty dives!

Had a well kept pint of APA from the new Firebird brewery based in nearby Rudgewick. Service was friendly and despite the cafe/restaurant feel- they do still keep a good pint, and support local brewers.

It is mostly restaurant, but on a hot and thirsty day I had a very decent, friendly, if slightly pricey, pint or three. Dar Star Hop Head, and Surrey Hills Shere Drop were on - to name but two. Reminds me of a couple of other local pubs which have gone gastro but still care to lay on a decent pint and support regional brewers. On balance I'd prefer they go that way than close (like the Thurlow, the Villagers etc.).

Excellent. Food and service is the best in the area. So pleased this place has taken a turn for the better since the refurbishment of Christmas 2009/2010. I'm looking forward to trying the bedrooms and patio area when it opens in June/July. Closing early May for new toilets/kitchens/bedrooms/patio area to be built.

I visited this pub with a group of colleagues a couple of months ago. Despite a number of the negative comments we had a superb meal, great service and excellent beer. I like the decor and hope that these guys continue to make a success of it

Mmmmm the `Pink Dick` is now far more a restaurant than a pub I get the feeling they just tolerate us drinkers.
sandraparker where else can you suggest this can`t be the only place you`ve been can it ??

What a great place - pleasant surprise after reading earlier reviews. Had lunch here during bike ride on Downslink (highly recommend this to other bikers). Menu is pricey but pick and choose and it can be reasonable - food was good. Service was very friendly and efficient and there was a nice buzz to the large, airy dining area. Wonderful wood floors and comfortable seating. Toilets (always a give away) were immaculate. Well done.

Tried this last night after all its publicity.

My wife ordered a glass of champagne to be told by the young lad behind the bar that they didn't do champagne by the glass, only Prosecco. This was despite there being a board outside advertising half price champagne on a Thursday, and it being (we found later) on the wine list as being available by the glass.

Ordered two steak burgers (the prices of the steaks themselves being ludicrous!), one with cheese and one without. They both turned up with cheese, so I sent mine back, to be told that they couldn't do one without cheese as they were pre-made up earlier that afternoon with the cheese on them.

This was rather alarming given all the blurb on the menus about home cooked food etc. as if they couldn't do a burger without cheese, it suggests that they may well have been partially cooked already. Even if that was not so I am not too impressed by food being partially pre-prepared several hours earlier in that way.

Someone on the next table to us sent their food back (I don't know why) and another table waited so long that they got up to find out where their food was.

Overall, third rate food and fifth rate service. Might do better if it was not staffed solely by children.

A waste of petrol - we won't be back !!

Nicely done up, good beers. Menu looks terrific but food was disappointing, and therefore overpriced for the quality (all four of us at lunch there felt the same). This needs to be addressed quickly to live up to it's smart-set clientele and to attract repeat business. It would be a shame to see this pub go down the style over substance route...
holdfast08 - 10 Mar 2010 21:13
very nicely done out but the food needs more attention...i paid 8 for a full english, talk about expensive. i thought i was helping with the national debt.
georgejames - 4 Mar 2010 19:53
Pic very outdated now.
Not so much a pub as an eatting house now adays, take your credit card with you, the meals are not that expencive but you have to buy a few to fill you up.
stroller - 24 Feb 2010 17:19
A great improvement! But SO expensive and teeny tiny portions of food.
mrseagle - 8 Feb 2010 12:45
Very, very lovely pub. Has been refurbished and is fabulous! Great decor and atmosphere.

Only critisim is its very pricey! 18 for 2 beers and 2 glasses of wine. If the prices were more reasonable it would be perfect!
STEPHBS - 15 Dec 2009 11:50
Pic out of date wish the new guys well.

This pub is currently undergoing refurbishment. It has also been renamed 'The Richard Onslow'. First impressions are good from the outside.
dcdevil69 - 26 Sep 2009 22:42
probably the worst pub you will ever have the misfortune of entering. i don't think it has any redeeming features, oh no it does...the door as you leave.
davesomg - 11 Jul 2009 12:28
SACKCLOTH AND ASHES! Meant the Onslow Arms in Loxwood - please ignore below
scrags53 - 3 Jun 2009 14:17
Should be SUCH a good pub. Booked table one week ahead for 7 for Saturday lunch - arrived to find 1 hour wait for food, drinks in plastic glassses and very little sign of food coming from kitchen. Asked if we could just have plate of sandwiches - no-one seemed to care.
scrags53 - 25 May 2009 19:09
No consistency with management and the freehold is for sale. Punch Taverns are probably desperate to unload it asap. Good lunchtime crowd.
No food.
fastman1 - 20 Mar 2009 16:47
This pub`s rating is far higher than it should be at 2.2/10, so make of that what you will. 0/10 here
Beersupper - 21 Dec 2008 10:24
generally poor by any standards
FAB1 - 17 Dec 2008 06:37
Meagre fare, dreary decor and a prevailing air of misery. Not one for the purist.
Tobias_the_Pickler - 15 Aug 2008 01:11
Seconds out round 3 possibly the only sort of round in this joint.
Beersupper - 4 Jun 2008 20:34

I've been to this pub several times in the last year. I agree with teedoubleyou. It's a dirty pub with terrible food. If you don't trust me, check this out. In the "lounge" bar area, there is a pew infront of a window near the fireplace. There has been the same bit of rubbish since i first went there. I'm getting rather fond of that bit of rubbish now. It's like visiting an old friend. Check the condiments before use! Date & bits stuck to them. A visit here will make the next pub you visit the best in the world.
dcdevil69 - 11 Jul 2006 10:13
Possibly the worst pub I have ever been to. No joke.
Although the staff seemed to be friendly enough, the pub felt dirty and cheap.
If you're a tony and guy person, who likes to play pool, watch football and look how TopShop tell you to, then this is the place for you.

I wouldn't return.
teedoubleyou - 2 May 2006 16:51
Meals may be cheap but the beer isn't! A 275ml bottle of Beck's will set you back about 2.65. Having said that the design of the pub is to my liking - nicely decorated and spacious room in the middle

Will2 - 26 Aug 2005 13:27
