The village of Burton Bradstock was somewhat busier than normal on my Wednesday lunchtime visit. With the nearby A35 closed, nearly all traffic was passing through what is normally a picturesque village near the south coast. The pub itself is thatched. I arrived at this Palmer's pub at midday in time for its opening. 5 Palmer's ales were on - 200, Copper Ale, Dorset Gold, Tally Ho! & IPA. In addition, their real cider Dorset Orchards First Press was on. Staff were bright and cheerful. Whilst I was there, a number of groups arrived, some just for drinks, with some looking to dine. The better of the 2 pubs in the village.

Another quality Palmers House. Quiet on a Sunday Afternoon. In a change from the 200, I went for the Best Bitter. It was also excellent, although I would stick to the 200. A perfect village pub.

£1.80 for half a lime & soda !!! Pretty sullen and uninspiring pub with only Palmers on offer. Wont be going back.
Stocks wide range of Palmers Ales and houses a good mix of tourists and locals. Food is cooked well . A decent enough choice for the area but you can probably get slightly better value for money elsewhere.
Lovely pub and lovely area. Had a couple of lagers in the suntrap beer garden, it was heaven. Expensive but everywhere round here is.

Good quality village pub with a range of Palmers ales and decent pub food. Service was efficient and friendly. Worth a visit.

This pub is simply outstanding. If you are a loud lager fizz belly looking for tv, jukebox and fruit machines then pass on by. If you want a pub selling a full range of really well kept real ales in comfortable, dog friendly surroundings then be prepared to order a taxi home. Been here three times in last three days - each time there has been a different mix of locals and non villagers but on each occasion we were totally sucked into the friendly and vibrant atmosphere. I could fill pages of good things about this pub and in particular the landlady who went out of her way to make us feel welcome, but I think that its best that you try it yourself.

A very good pub with good ale which seems to keep its local feel despite being in a prime tourist area.

At the risk of sounding like the ignorant London tourist that I am, I feel that this pub represents nearly the quintessence of the British country pub experience. I went in here three times on my visit to the area, and each time it was busy, but not excessively so, with an eclectic mix of dyed-in-the-wool West Country locals, pensioners and rich folks down visiting their second homes for the weekend, and out-and-out tourists such as myself.
This pub is housed in a fine old building, complete with thatched roof and roaring fire. The full of range of local Palmers beers was on offer, and I can report first-hand that all were in excellent condition. The excellent food, to my eye, was very reasonably priced, and the staff were friendly without being overbearing.
In short: If you find yourself in the neighbourhood a visit is well worth it.

Great pub - shame about the 'plum in mouth' locals who are as local as a Pearly King. Go back to London you scum!
Why was this pub dropped from the CAMRA GOOD BEER GUIDE 2011? ALe is always on top form here and the entire Palmers range is stocked. Good home cooked food too. Great pub that now outshines the Anchor up the road.
A decent place to go. We sat in the garden which was lovely and the ale and lager we had were very nice indeed.

A lounge bar plus dining room with well kept Palmers ales - the 200 was excellent. Really it's more of a foodie pub, didn't try anything other than a sandwich which was OK. Not sure if it relies more on the passing trade than the locals though, plenty of families (holidaymakers?) with young children were using it when I was there, so not a quiet pub at that time.

As good as ever when on Holiday last week. The sort of pub you wish was down the end of your road. Pam and the staff are wonderful and the new patio garden is excellent. Locals very friendly and welcoming too.
Spent a week in nearby Shipton Gorge and visited this enjoyable place 3 times. Felt very welcome and for dog lovers,it is very friendly. The Ale was the full range of Palmers and the food was very good as well. Ale was of the highest order. Thanks to all the staff, especially Amy and congrats to Pam and Paul on such a well run establishment.

Full range of excellent Palmers beers...all in good nic and worth the hangover i got from trying them all.
Four of us had lunch here on 09.03.10. Very nice meal, friendly and efficient staff, excellent beer. Obviously other people thought it was good because it was very busy for a Tuesday in early March. And the fire was it!

Well I can't see what the problem is or was but we were only there for a short time on a Saturday mid-afternoon whilst waiting for the bus. The one beer I had was nice. The full range of Palmers beers was on - good to see that.
In previous years in the summer have sat outside on lovely benches.

Yes, I suppose you could say that. (You're coming on very well!)

many thanks, shame everyones not as smart as you

went in here for an evening meal last Wed and it was very quite, but I have to say that from what i saw that it was one of the stragest vibes I've had in a pub, prehaps it was the lack of punters, as a review earlier said it was nornally rammed, but with just me and the wife sat in one corner and about three locals at the bar no back ground music, we found our selfs listening to the rather load banter going on at the bar, the middle aged bar person was flirting outragously with the young bar maid, who kept telling him to getoff and stop it, and acouple of the locals half egging him on, when the conversation got round to some one going round one of thier houses after sombody with a base ball bat, it was all very load and very odd, the menus was suprisingly big as was the list of specials on the two black boards, and a couple who came in while we were eating commented on the specials being the same as yesterday, the food was okay and the ale was very well kept, but overall I'd have to describe the experiance as strange, oh yeh and they could have lit the fire as well
English is not your first language, is it? No, thought not. I'm going to have a look here soon, and I promise to post in an understandable language.

On holiday last week and used this pub virtually every day. Drinks are great, food is terrific and the staff are very friendly and efficient, this despite the pub being rammed more often than not! Given all this plus a lovely setting. Hope to be back very soon.
Expensive but a nice pint of Palmers Best. Had a decent lunch as well
Usually stocks the full Palmers range and very well kept too. Pricy though, like all Palmers pubs. Weakest ale starts at 2.70 a pint rising to 3.20 for Tally Ho (5.5%). Oi Palmers - this is Dorset not Park Lane.
More a restaurant with a bar than a pub. Little space for drinkers in winter. Generally stocks entire Palmers range but so so pricy! 3 for 5% ale! This is Dorset where minimum wage thrives! Palmers beers hardly that special. Food great and the pub is very friendly if you ignore the 'outsiders' with the cut glass accents!

Had the tastiest, freshest, roast beef pub Sunday lunch here today. Rare roast beef as requested, carrots and parsnips roasted in honey, red cabbage, roasted courgettes, lovely roast spuds, extra gravy instantly on asking. Great pint of Palmers Best Bitter.Left our meal on hold so that I could have my first pint. Lovely pub, lovely people.
Tuesday lunchtime and the bar is full of retired people eating lunch. The end of the room is dominated by a six seater table disguised as a double bed!!!! Top quality Palmers Best Bitter.
Fantastic Pub, the service was friendly and very helpful. The Palmers local ale was kept beautifully, really up there with the best I've ever had. I got stuck into the Best Bitter and the Dorset Gold, both were delightful. Enjoyed a homemade Pie, Chips and selection of fresh Veg in the beer garden, with my pint. A lovely experience.
Friendly welcome and nice big beer garden out the back.
Just been here, great range of afternoon snacks, just right with a great pint of Tally Ho! Highly recommended
The service was quick and friendly, the beers palmers bitter and tally ho were spot on, is expensive but found that to be the norm around dorset.
A good selection of local ales (Palmers)ranging from the head-banging 'Tally-Ho'(5.8)to the more'sessional' Best (4.2). Maybe a bit pricy for local ale at 3 and 2-60 respectively a pint, but staff always friendly and polite. Restaurant prices rather pretentious (who wants to pay 16 for an 8 oz sirloin in a pub?) Maybe the prices will reduce when the current owner leaves in the New Year?
Again a good village Pub,good range beers excellent food but has got pricy this year,
Have just had the worst experience ever with the landlord and landlady of this establishment. They were totally rude to my Partner and I over something that was their fault not ours. I will not use this establishment again.

Traditional WestDorset thatched pub. Good food. Open fire. Occasional brilliant live music not too noisy. Excellent beer and a warm welcome.
