Isis, Sunderlandback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Paid another visit recently, the ale selection appeared to have changed from last time. 7 ales plus 2 ciders on at the time of my visit. I had a pint of Citra Pale by Saltaire at £3.65.
Well worth a visit.

Called in yesterday early evening after hearing good things about this pub.
On entering there is a long imposing bar to the left, with seating to the front and side. It was pretty full at the time of my visit but I just managed to find a table and seat. The bar boasted 12 hand pumps, at the time of my visit 7 offering real ales and 3 real ciders.
Ales were Camerons Strongarm, Camerons Pressgang, Titanic Cap Smith's, Cullercoats Northdown, Camerons Northern Line Stout, Bourbon Stout, and Fell Mosaic Oatmeal Pale (OPA). Plenty of different styles and strengths.
Ciders were Thatchers Cheddar Valley, Lilleys Strawberry, and Gwynt y Ddraig Celtic Warrior.
I went for a pint of the Fell OPA, 4.5% and set me back £3.65. Not sure how this rates for the area, but the pint was in good condition, a nice hoppy pale ale, and was just what I was hoping for, slipped down nicely.
A mix of people in, students and a more mature crowd too. The people on the table next to me were having a discussion about 60s documentaries and the arts. You know the sort. Better than a pub full of riff-raff though!
There was a connecting door to a room behind the bar - not sure if this was a further bar area or something else.
Would happily make a return visit, and would recommend to anyone who likes decent real ale in a nice pub.

I visited this pub on a pub crawl of Sunderland. There was a large selection of 12 beers from independent breweries including Jarrow Rivet Catcher and American IPA, all in great condition. Local pamphlets on ale trails and brewery news are available. Both the barman and the locals were friendly and were happy to give information on the area and directions. Superb!!

Large old style Victorian town pub with plenty of local aes on and a few others. Didn't come across a better pub in the town.

Probably the best pub in Sunderland now, with an excellent range of well-kept ales, nicely restored surroundings and good service. Proper drinker's pub, no food or screens.

Has to be my favourite pub, very wide range of bitters, lovely staff, good atmosphere.
The Jarrow Brewery selection is excellent.
Doesn't do food or accept credit card but the beer experience is second to none.

This pub was our last stop in Sunderland yesterday and was marginally the best pub we tried. As the previous reviewer states, the pub has been restored to its original glory and is very impressive. It may be small - a bar and a smaller games room to the side, but is has 12 handpulls dispensing 3 Jarrow beers and also 3 ciders and/or perries. On yesterday were Jarrow Rivet Catcher, Red Ellen & McConnels Stout, Mauldons Suffolk Pride & Cuckoo, Castle Rock Elsie Mo, Milestone Colonial Stout, Acorn Bullseye & Consett Cast Iron. Ciders were Rogers Furze Cutters, Glasto Soap Dodger & Bourbons Hillbilly Pop. The latter had just run out as I arrived. But the friendly and proffessional bar staff offered to change put another one on as soon as the post-football match demand had died down a little. Thistly Cross Snakebite came on and was very nice. Not too far from the town centre and apparently the local CAMRA pub of the year. Well worth a visit to admire the interior and sample the ales and ciders. Will be back.

Superb restoration on this classic building. Welcoming staff. 8 ales on with 3 from Jarrow, 2 from Mauldon, and others from Ossett, Nottingham, Wood Street breweries and 3 trad ciders. Just over 5 minutes walk of the University stop on the metro

The Isis is now reopened as part of the Jarrow Brewery Portfolio. Sympathetically restored to it original layout. Serves wide selection of Real Ales, Real Ciders, continental beers and Lagers. The Fridges boast a great selection of foreign bottled beers on a rotational basis.

Looked a bit shut when I passed on Monday. Rumoured to have been taken over by Jarrow Brewery as their Sunderland outlet.
