Although predominantly a restaurant, is a pub with interesting railway pictures, old timetables etc. About 2 kms from Widmerpool Village

Well known former destination food house. Converted station building. Rural position, just off A46. Big car park. Reasonable outside area.

Currently closed, but perhaps soon to re-open. Definately worth visiting when it's trading.

While we were on our way home yesterday from Derbyshire to Essex, my husband remembered this place from when he used to live in the area. He said it had been made into a pub from the Widmerpool railway station and used to be a specialist fish restaurant. What commended me to it was the announcement on the board outside that it served traditional English home-cooked food. I liked the mention of 'English'. Also, the railway prints by railway artists. My late first husband, who had been a railwayman, would have loved it. I even found a print by Terence Cuneo in the ladies' loo, but didn't have time to search for Cuneo's trademark mouse.

Anyway, to the food. My husband had local beer, which he thoroughly approved of. And the carvery was good. Lovely well-cooked but not over-cooked roast beef. I couldn't fault the meal. Good service, friendly and efficient. We'll certainly be back there the next time we're in the area, which won't be for another few months.

Fantastic restaurant-pub with superb staff-the PERSON behind the bar IS the flag ship of the establishment, excellent food and friendly locals characters, which is reflected in the very happy customers, including myself. We will definitely be using this as ourhalf way meeting place in the future. Very impressed!Give this place a try !

More of a restuarant than a pub -clean, spacious and well-managed, excellent food- well presented ,good beer and wine, friendly service- who could ask for more? I've been here for dinner four times in the last few weeks, and every time have come away thoroughly impressed. Last time I had a whole oven baked seabass-absolutelly fantastic and big portion ,and my wife she had a slow rost lamb shank-with red wine juice-cooked to perfection. My beers were cold, fizzy & export strength, shes red wine great (reccomended by the staff). We will be back again and again! Well done !!! Recommended to others !

The people who have written the previous reviews have obviously not been in this pub for a while. All i can say to you get back and have a look and don't go with preconceived ideas of what it used to be like because it is not like that now.Still a great pub & restaurant , warm , welcoming and friendly. Good beer at reasonable prices and excellent food.We been there for a Sunday carvery-10 of us- and it was great, the meat-beef,pork ,turkey breast- was tender, perfectly cooked, presented on a warm plate and sliced by the carvery chef, the vege-
tables freshly made,gravy-very tasty and the home made yorkshire puddings were fantastic. Will definitely continue to visit here on a regular basis and would not hesitate to recommend to others !!!

Last visited in December 2009 and quiet, almost sterile atmosphere. Service seemed to be concentrated on food. Had a swift-ish drink and was below average. Always hope a pub like this improves as it's a shame to lose, but it's catch 22. No good and they lose custom, to improve they at least need more customers to break even, to get those customers they need to improve.

Our family visited the Pullman for Sunday lunch today. Oh dear, Oh dear, how things have changed!!
Truly awfull experience. We had booked an early table for midday for two adults and three yougsters. We didn't have to book, the place was empty, strange I thought this place was busy the last time we ate here about a year ago.
Things started off badly. I sent a pint of beer back because it tasted of cider and soap! Havn't done this in over 10 years. Then we was told that there are no menus because all they serve is the carvery. Fine I thought, a nice carvery is always welcome. Wrong.....there idea of a carvery was reheated roast potatoes which were grey in the middle and not cooked through. Frozen balls of stuffing. Yorshire puddings which were soggy and cold. Gravy which was a dark brown syrup with no taste. Carrots which had seen better days.
The worst part was when my 3 year old son asked me "whats this Daddy" He had cut into a roast potato which was black and rotten.
Everyone stopped eating at this point.
I could go on but I think you get the idea. I paid the bill in full which was 39.00 and we left quickly.........never to return again.
You have been warned.

I, too, visited for lunch. The place was deserted of customers, the atmosphere was bleak, dingy and uninviting and the staff disinterested. They had no (do not sell?) draught beer (even though their webpage states '...wide slecetion of draught and bottled beers'. We left disillusioned and sad that the place has gone downhill, vowing not to return, and we found another, more welcoming, place to eat.

went to the pullman today after a break of a couple of years, and was very dissapointed. The chips arrived ready salted, yuk! has no-one told them salt is not very healthy, I had fajita, so crisp it was more like eating a popadum. I had to ask twice for mayo before it eventually arrived. My husband asked for vinegar, when that arrived it had a crust on the top, the bottle was filthy, and sticky all round the outside, when we asked for it to be changed the same bottle arrived back with some of the vinegar tipped out to get rid of the crust on top.
Needless to say none of us used the vinegar. All round it was an awful meal, not worth the money and we will certainly not go back there.

Went into the Pullman the other night, it's had a makeover since we last went in. We had a really good experience, the food was all fresh, my husband had a beer which he said tasted good!! Which in some pubs these days is not well kept at all. The staff were really friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Will be going again they have started doing entertainment evenings, they've got Campbell Bass singing at the end of Feb, seen him before. It was nice to go somewhere that had not forgotten the old fashioned stuff!!

Of course it was a railway station Lu. It's obvious!

More a restaurent than a pub.

I have been to the Pullman several times. The meal has always been plentiful for a very reasonable price. Good value for money. My great uncle was the last station master at Widmerpool Station!

Very nice pub. Food is very nice and the seats look like railway carriages, i think it may have been a railway station at one time. The Carvery on a Sunday lunch is very nice.
