Took a punt and booked in for lunch yesterday without knowing anything about this pub. Glad we had reserved a table for six people as it was very busy even though they had told us on the phone that a Tuesday would probably be quiet! Ciabattas were excellent, no doubt reflecting the quality that has become the norm in this town. Also excellent was the Padstow Brewing's Windjammer, other handpulls were Doom Bar and Tintagel Brewery's Castle Gold. Good choice of pub.

Stayed overnight in the guest accommodation. Very comfortable, and a great breakfast. Beer also very much on form. Recommended!

Agree with the others, this is a good refuge from the more touristy pubs. Beer was excellent and dogs were welcome.

Paid a couple of visits here last week. This is a local's haven in a sea of pushy needy tourists with their god like offspring who seen to infect most of the other bars in Padstow. If you are ok with being in a down to earth, no frills proper pub, don't miss The Golden Lion. Good range of beer's, the lagers are a bit run of the mill, but fine all the same. They do food, and if you wish, have a separate area opposite the kitchen away from the bar area if you want to avoid the local's enjoying themselves.

An oasis for those looking for something to drink other than St Austell in Padstow. Betty Stoggs and a beer from the Tintagel brewery, both good quality, meant many repeat visits in our week there.

good pub - more a 'local' than the usual Padstein pubs. food & beer good
|
Visited recently, Pub is OK, nice garden, friendly, good service and a nice pint of Doom Bar.
|
I like this pub - is a great place when old Oss comes out in May!
|
I got a bit of a tan when I was down there but it was just Golden not Dark. They don't like old Rick, well at least the locals (I presume they were locals)don't maybe have a "Steiny" day and burn his books like they did in Germany in the 30's, strange race the Cornish LOL Oh beer was ok and good banter.

"Darky Day". I rest my case.
(Nice pub)

We have had the darky day tradition for years and years. If you really found out why we do it, then you would realise that its not wrong, and definetly not racist. Don't write comments like this about local traditions and our town unless you really know what you are talking about please.

Except I've since found out why they paint your face black and it's wrong. So very very wrong.

Small and heaving with local families and children, serves ales such as Doom Bar - named after the doom bar bit of high ground in the Camel Estuary that caught boats unawares and shipwrecked them.
Visit on New Year's Day when Padstow has a group of musicians -Morris Dancers I guess - who walk from pub to pub collecting money and painting your face black. Good fun.
