please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Cheaper for a pint at the Savoy.

A decent boozer just a stones throw from Pimlico tube station. A varied selection of ales were available plus Leffe blond on draught. Theres a nice airy bar at the front and a nice upstairs area (not always open). The area past the bar lacks natural light. As I said an ok boozer but nothing special.
WaitorseBoyz - 10 Sep 2015 12:20
Staying at a nearby hotel, no dinner or bar, so saw Gallery as I walked from tube station. The food was great, and I then worked my way down the taps on the beers - also very nice. Sat outside to eat as was a warm evening, then moved inside as got cooler. Still a busy pub at 9.30, and doing good business

Very pleasant, if a tad anonymous. Good choice of ale and outside benches. Right by Pimlico tube.
curioushistory - 26 Mar 2012 15:38
I'm not quite sure what theses other review are on about as i am a regular at the gallery and have been for quite some time now. It is by far the best pub in the area and has everything you would want form a local boozer. Great beer, fantastic food, friendly staff and most importantly of all a good crowd.. always packed on a Friday so get yourself there early for a decent pew... not many pubs like this still about..cheers!!

8 for two pints of Kronenbourg - avoid..
Saifa - 17 Feb 2012 18:59
Visited this pub after having a meeting in Pimlico. The pub was comfortable and it was very quiet but my guess is that it probably gets busier later on into the evening. It had 4 ales on of which the TT Landlord was in good nick. This place somehow didnt quite do it for me however I am unsure why. Deserves a higher score than it currently has though.

5/10

Yes I don't think this place is as bad as 4.2. It's pleasant enough, with the outdoor tables quite nice for a cider after football at the academy. But it is much too pricey.
pubLiam - 29 Sep 2011 13:25
Enjoyed a very good pint of Doom Bar, while the Betty Stoggs was just average. Pricey, but to be expected in this area. I certainly wouldn't berate it is the way some have! Alright for a quick pick pint or to meet-up, but didn't really seem to be a 'local'.
wobblybob - 2 Jul 2011 09:31
Terrible rip-off joint. It's uncomfortable and feels completely like a 'chain' pub which I presume it is. Again.Terrible.

Popped in here Saturday morning on the way to rugby at Twickenham. We planned to go t the Cask but it was closed and we lured in by the Cask Marque sign outside. Four ales on and the Harvey's was good, although a little cloudy. Found the staff to be friendly - perhaps different staff to those encountered by others on here. We had a pleasant visit.
Rod_Hariga - 15 Feb 2011 00:08
I'm not sure why this pub has such a low score. My visit last week was perfectly pleasant. The pub is a little larger than it appears and has been sympathetically refurbished. The floral print curtains are much in evidence and there is a variety of comfortable seating scattered around. A couple of discreetly placed TVs suggest that while sports watching may be available it is not the centrepiece of the pub. An opening in the ceiling to the first floor near the front of the pub showed an upstairs eating area which was closed at the time of my late afternoon visit.

There were 4 hand pumps with Bombadier, Pride, Doom Bar and Harveys Best on offer as well as a selection of premium lagers. As a previous review says the prices are on the high side - north of 3.50 for a premium lager. It was difficult to judge the customer base or bar staff as the pub was very quiet at the time I visited - perhaps it fills up with braying idiots and surly unhelpful staff later in the evening but that was not my experience.

In relation to the last post there is a clear sign on the door of the pub that no dogs are allowed other than guide dogs.

Not a bad place at all but expensive.

This is the WORST pub in Central London!
I was meeting a couple of friends that were visiting the Tate!
we had plenty of drinks outside and when it started raining we decided to move inside!

The "manager", or "landlord" refused to serve us and told us to leave as I had my tiny , well behaved chihuhahua with me saying that dogs are not allowed in a very rude and obnoxious way!
I told him off politely and left...he wasnt worth my time and effort!
He was drinking on a table by the door and was visibly intoxicated!
They only care about ripping off naive american tourists that cannot argue with them !

AVOID THIS PUB! ITS A TOURIST TRAP ! AND THAT GUY IS THE WORST "DOG" OUT THERE!
GVF - 10 Aug 2010 17:42
Flowery curtains seem to dominate in this pub! Along with the carpet, they give it a fairly cosy feel. But they are a little overpowering. Seating is sofa style. There are pictures and framed butterflies on the walls. A plain looking room at the back was empty on my visit, with most people choosing to watch the World Cup on the TV. Exmoor Ale, Harveys Sussex Best Bitter and Black Sheep Best were the 3 choices for real ale fans, with a 4th handpull unused. Seems to attract a fair amount of passing trade and is handy for Pimlico tube station opposite, where I had alighted en route to the Cask.

I sought legal advice against this pub last June, after the bar manager threw my boyfriend and me out for quietly holding hands under our table and kissing occasionally. This was on a quiet Thursday evening at about 9pm. I had been a regular there for several years and had always thought of The Gallery as a gay-friendly pub, hence I was amazed by such a reaction.

Solicitors and Stonewall advised me that my case wasn't strong enough to take to court without witnesses to give evidence, and I would lose money if I tried anything more than a formal complaint. When I did complain in writing, the brewery concerned advised me that it was an issue between me and the manager who had evicted us in the first place. I therefore met brick walls at every turn.

It was the worst experience I have ever had, and I would rather remain teetotal for the rest of my life rather than drink there again. My local theatre group, who used to drink there, have found another drinking spot since then too.

senrab77 - 28 Jun 2010 13:39
Incredibly overpriced with unfriendly staff (the manager sets the tone for this.) It seems to survive on catching unwary tourists on their way to Tate Britain so I don't suppose the manager gives a damn anyway because he knows they won't be back. There are much better pubs in the area so give this one a miss.
LadyJanes - 24 Jun 2010 00:40
I'm afraid I have to agree with the negative reviews of this place. I've been to this pub twice and both times were relatively quiet so my opinion has nothing to do with obnoxious patrons. Although the place is clean, there is little atmosphere and the staff don't appear interested in their customers. I usually drink in pubs more central than this one, but the prices here are extortionate even compared to pricier areas. You can definitely find a better place to spend your time and cash.
mollymoggs - 3 Jun 2010 16:11
A bit surprised to read theswe reviews. We had a pleasant early evening meal here. Nice pint of London Pride and a well cooked steak served by polite and friendly staff. Quite a young crowd in which meant it was a bit raucous but nothing to get het up about. Happy to come again.
REVERENDBAZ - 18 May 2010 14:48
This place had Spitfire, Greene King IPA and Harveys Best available during my Saturday evening visit along with Peroni, Amstel and a standard draught selection.

The bar area was heaving with obnoxious twenty somethings as was the balcony area. I spotted no TV and there was no music, but I still had to escape to the food serving area at the rear of the pub to get some peace.

I wasnt that keen on this place, but I would try it again if passing at a quieter time of the day.
Strongers - 10 Nov 2009 23:20
A place which places absolutely no value what so ever on its customers... treats them like dirt.... but i guess it shows you that sometimes a pub can thrive despite this.... its always busy and will keep treating its customers like dirt while it stays busy.

Unfriendly staff, rude management and very very average drinks
jamesbartlett74 - 23 May 2009 15:54
Didn't find this place anything like as bad as most of the recent reviews suggest. Certainly nothing special, but had a reasonable pint of Pride served full to the brim in the correct glass.
rpadam - 9 Apr 2009 21:04
Had a night in this place last night

The manager and Bar Staff are particularly unwelcoming, rude and very lazy

All of our pints were flat and when we asked for replacement pints we were refused point blank

Then it started to get busy with the post Netball Game players (most of whom were blokes) and it resembled a very bad knobbly knees contest and the stench of B O was very unpleasent

Tried some of their overpriced undercooked food and spent most of this morning being unwell

We all agreed it was a bad decision to go there even though it's close to our workplace

We won't be going back

It smells
oldbloke - 20 Feb 2009 14:29
Just horrible.... buy a can of something strong and sit in the waiting room at victoria, has more character and personality than this place.
ChrisBoyd67 - 7 Jul 2008 14:15
Great freindly pub that serve mini bottle of okay champagne, food is good and it is a well know gay pub which is great if you are a woman on your own in there! Have been told of many intertaining things going on in there.
runninghampster - 7 Apr 2008 18:20
I arrived at 10:50 to be told by the barmaid that I had just made it in time. Another member of bar staff tried to get me to leave at 11:10.

Considering that you can't even walk on the pavement past the place most nights, thanks to the post-work netball / volleyball / anythingwithaball crowd, you would think they'd be more welcoming when the pub is less busy. They're not.

It's seen better days, this place. Shame.

Popped in here on a Sunday night at about 10.15pm for a nightcap after a meal out. The Manager (ess) made us move from the back of the pub to the front, as the area had been cleaned. Even though the table still had beer stains all over it. Once moved to the front of the pub around a table for 4 people, when there were 6, of us we saw that out of the 6 of us - 2 had glasses which were dirty and still had old lipstick marks on them. Nice eh?
5 mins after sitting down and being told at the bar that we had till 11pm to dring up the Manager (ess) cam over and said we should drink up - Ok Ok we understand pub rules in London.
Then 5 mins later when she came over again we pointed out the dirty glasses and we got an apology that this rarely happens. If you are a tourist - find somewhere better on Vauxhall Bridge Road - better choice of cleaner pubs.
wellwornlondoner - 18 Sep 2006 12:16
This pub was originally named The Perseverance and then The Queen of Denmark. It was probably renamed The Gallery so as to confuse tourists who may have arranged to meet at "the Gallery, Pimlico" - meaning the Tate Gallery, which is nearby. The pub is extremely expensive for both food and drink. The staff are not particularly friendly and can sometimes be quite surly. The normal lagers are standard quality but I would avoid any real ales in there... I bought a pint of Greene King IPA and it was rancid, but the staff refused to change it - they said I shouldn't have bought it! A good point is that you can sit outside in the summer; traffic along Ebury Bridge Rd is rarely too heavy, and you can get into conversation with tourists from all over the world.
offramp - 16 May 2006 10:58
Right next to pimlico tube, so it's on my way home from work. I stop off in here quite often and it's mental expensive, but here's a tip: the locals don't know how to play the fruit machine. If you do, have a go, you can make a killing. I tend to have two drinks, which can cost over a tenner, but I rarely leave with less money than i entered with. Bonzer!
anonymous - 12 Apr 2006 17:03
Way way to expensive maybe the govner thinks this is the wwest end, just all around sucks!!
Precrime - 7 Apr 2006 11:23
Very friendly pub, great staff, nice locals, and a good atmosphere. West end prices but it is SW1! Good range of beers and Paul and Eddy, the landlords, keep a good pint.
paulhodgson - 30 Dec 2005 13:07
This is a well-run pub. The manager knows exactly what he's doing and the food is well above average. Very popular with netball players!
Nailed - 20 Dec 2005 15:52
Good fun - always busy with aussies, netballers and locals. Nice food which is good value too.
benjamin22 - 24 Jun 2005 10:53
Average and the barstaff are surly. However it gets a lot less packed than the Morpeth, and it smells less than the White Swan.
beeronaut - 2 Jun 2005 18:00
Overpriced, dull, and with miserable South African bar staff....need I say more.
icedragon72 - 14 Mar 2005 19:51
Probably the best run pub for miles around. Privately owned and yes, a little more expensive than some other 'locals' but then the standards are high too. Fun friendly staff, mostly South African, who remember what you drink and serve you frequently with a witty comment. Good range of fresh beers - so I disagree heartily with any comments about the poor quality. The quality of the food is certaintly above any 'pub food' menu. Very cosmopolitan customer crowd.
Kevin Greenan - [email protected] - 29 Dec 2003 12:58
i have lived in the area for over 5years & walk past this place everyday .The beer is always flat & over priced & although it is busy there is nothing of note about it .They do have a mizzanie section upstairs , not sure what that is like.busy on friday after work.
rod - 21 Nov 2003 20:11
Over priced with no atmosphere. Brendain o Cinneide comments are spot on.

Dave - 1 Aug 2003 12:16
the gallery is my local and all in all a nice pub, however i beg to differ with some of the positive comments circulating about th place..It can be extremely impersonal at times, and is extremely pricey..It tends to lack atmospehere too, with a very "upmarket" crowd.. nice for one or two though.
brendain o cinneide - 28 Apr 2003 17:19
This Pub is just fantastic with a nice atmosphere all day long. The staff are very friendly and prices are not uinreasonable. There are tails regarding the manager that are the stuff of urband legend. Its beleived that in one fit of rage, he ate his own shoe, not entirely remarkable until it was pointed out to me that he was actually wearing it at the time !!!!!!!!!
Geebag - 25 Feb 2003 14:26
would rate this pub 10/10. manager is certainly a treat - if just to see his misery - i understand he once, to the disbelief of onlookers, sacked the chef by hurling abuse into the kitchen, though the customers weren't aware that he was the chef that day! and the decor is unique - a must see! the staff are v friendly and the food is both traditional and modern with v healthy portions. wine may be a little more than you'd normally pay but is defo good qual - certainly done their research! worth a visit
james - 24 Feb 2003 23:04
a nice pub, dunno much like the new decor.
stuart - 24 Feb 2003 07:15
Needs better air-con, but nice local to have.
gecko - 24 Jan 2003 11:48
Great little boozer, friendly staff, good food, awful decor. A treat.
dean - 17 May 2002 17:16
ONS's local pub, so if you're into statistics and want to listen in come in here. Food is nice but expensive, same goes for the wine. Dunno about the beer, but no-one's ever complained to me about it...
Clare Griffiths - 25 Mar 2002 16:29
