Historic building, betrayed by a 'Spoons with even less atmosphere than normal

Fair enough for a Wetherspoons - obviously not a favourite for those who prefer a traditional pub but the beer was good and at 1.70 for a well-served pint of 4.4 Acorn Porter who can complain when my previous pint of 3.8 bitter had cost me 3.00? A cheap but perfectly satisfactory meal was served with a smile within a couple of minutes of ordering. For me, a rather above-average drinking establishment of its type and a worthwhile experience on the day.

Fairly average/competent Wetherspoons, however it's very very dark and you can't see what you're eating or drinking!

whilst not exactly "small", I would say it was one of teh smaller jdw pubs I have been in. As I recall, there was also not so many cask ales on offer as usual. That said, it is a nice place. and the usual jdw menu is available. it is also very convenient the the "west street" brigade. [a very popular part of the city in the evenings, for those who aren't familiar]. a 6 from me.

Ex public baths building, a section of which has been converted into a regular Spoon. There's a nice room on the corner with a fireplace. It's an OK place with a small selection of guests. Much cheaper than the Spoons in town. We quite liked it.

Beer is always in excellent condition here and a good range of guests is guaranteed. The Beer and a Burger is still only 3.99 here - the cheapest I have ever seen it (everywhere else is 4.59). Quite a few old gadgers but never any problems in my experiences.

Called in to pick up a new Acorn beer not had before, and found it pleasantly quiet as it was lunchtime. At my last visit in January I didn't have anything as I had gone in for a breakfast, and they had run out of food due to the local derby footy being played. The beer was good at this visit.

Ok, this pub (ok, this Bar... Wetherspoons arn't pubs)is fairly standard Wetherspoons fair, the food is average but cheap, the drinks are fairly cheap, but the beer is usually good and there's usually good choice including usually a couple of local ones (Bradfield especially) on handpump for 1.59, which is hardly bad. One of only 2 real ale bars on West Street itself and compared to most of the West Street Bars this is really not that bad a place!
|
Quite a nice pub, we had a good cheap meal there, although the students were getting v. rowdy and it destroyed the atmosphere somewhat.

The staff are rather up themselves for such a poor quality bar, the clientele are worse. I was asked if i wanted to buy a rabbit for rabbit pie by some bloke, I'm not kidding he showed me two in his bag!! If there is or has been any local football on don't even bother going in, don't know if its BBC or OCS but whoever it is congregates here as no other pubs will let them in.

Not impressed with the atmosphere, and always full of scum when it is busy! For wetherspoons prices, head for the JD Wetherspoons by John Lewis instead for a better night.

I had a great time in the Swim Inn, I learnt to swim there and was great to get back into the building for drinking. It has a great atmosphere, and friendly staff, great colour scheme. I love the place!!

This is the typical "rubbish" you expect from Wetherspoons. The customers (all customers) are considered a nuisance. The occupation of such a site by Wetherspoons is a shameful waste of land space.
Go to a pub like the Cask & Cutler, Gardners Rest or Kelham Island Tavern, and you will be afforded not only a friendly welcome and good beer, but also they're the sort of places that if you ask someone nicely for a reasonable favour, there is more chance that it will be honoured.
Asking anyone a "favour" in the chain to which this pub belongs.. try booking a skiing holiday in Cairo - that's MUCH easier!

The pikeys wouldn't let me plug my laptop in, even though I offered to give them a quid for electricity!
Wetherspoons: Have a serious word with yourselves.
