Fullers pub in a residential area. Pride, Seafarers, Discovery and Chiswick were the beers. Aspalls was the cider. The interior has sadly been modernised. There are two main bars at the front and rear, with a smaller connecting area at the side. I couldn't find too much to recommend about this place. But if you like Fullers beers, maybe it is for you.

Oh stop whining Jonny1967.
Has no effect on it being a good or bad pub. just means your a bit over sensitive. To sum up, Grow some TESTICLES and speak up next time!!!!
|
Its a little like an estate pub full of locals,ok for a beer if your a Fullers fan.

Wineontherocks, it did happen, and there were quite a few witnesses who said and did nothing!!!
|
Awesome Pub, good beer, food and a laid back atmosphere.
Friendly and entertaining staff. Definitely worth making this your local.
|
I'm very surprised that this great little pub should get such a low rating. I only moved into the area within the last year but visit the pub once a week or so and the beer is always good, the staff friendly and efficient, and the locals are charming.
What with good live music and reasonably priced 'honest' food, what's not to like?
I can only assume that the mark must have been dragged down by historic poor scores - certainly I think that The Cricketers is far better than the other pubs in the vicinty all of which score more highly on this site
|
never that would not happen!!!
|
A pub where the chavvy thick locals take the mickey out of disabled people in wheelchairs! Avoid at all costs.

Little gem of a pub !! Very tidy, clean and well decorated.
Four choices of Youngs ales .... plus a guest beer as well.
Chose a pint of Pipers Gold, and excellent it was too.
Varied and interesting menu. I had the home-made lamb burger, chips and salad. The burger was very tasty with minimal fat ; good value for money.
The barman was particularly friendly and helpful and i enjoyed my time here - would certainly make it my local .... if only i didn't live 90+ miles away !!!

Fantastic pub, good selection of beers and nice atmosphere. Highly recommended!
|
Good atmosphere and great Fullers ales, and it's only a short walk from the railway station. This place deserves a far higher rating than 4.9
|
This pub has great food and a lovely atmosphere. Enjoyed sitting in the garden, drinking brilliantly kept beer.
|
Good Beer, decent pub, seemed to be buzzing. Staff very friendly and efficient.
Went to the pub quiz (Monday 9pm) and enjoyed it. Good general knowledge questions and not much TV and music rubbish that you get at other quizes.
I never comment on food, as I believe pubs are for drinking in. This obsession with food has to stop. Concentrate on booze and atmosphere and your pub will do OK.
DRINK!

Hi all-went back to the Cricks early November `08whilst on a trip back. Seems like the new guys have done a good job-The place has got a buzz again. Good to see they have kept old staff on-punters like ton see a face they know.-even after a year. Well done to Dave Hughes for the website as well. Keep up the good work guys Rick

This is a pub where the food and drink is reasonable, the lager and beer is kept well, and the food is always of a very good standard for its price.

A fantastic pub, good for a quiet drink, a dance to a local band or a meal out! The new owners really have turned it around.

A good pub, nice choice of Fullers beers. Somewhat expensive. Apparently once owned by the cricketer Julius Caesar.
|
Called in here the other day and as the comments below say it`s a good drinkers pub, beer was good if you like Fullers ales, would not eat here as it`s not that sort of pub..

I moved to Farncombe in 2004 and this was a great pub which made us feel very welcome. As you've read below, it has endured some dark days in the last couple of years but I'm happy to confirm that having popped in a few times since it recently changed hands it seems to be back on top form.
It's clean, the beer is good, great atmosphere on a Friday/Saturday night and I hear good things about the food though I've not tried it myself yet. The new landlord is friendly and works hard at making his pub a success.
|
The dining area needs a makeover as the walls are bare and lighting all wrong so its just a faceless corner of the pub. Otherwise, Cricketers is back to its former glory: friendly; swift service; well kept beer etc. Many thanks to new management for bringing the heart of Farncombe back to life.

Woo-hoo! The Cricks is back.
The ale is back on form and no more gobbing in the food by a drunken landlady. How the hell did Fullers let this place get into such a state?
|
This place is back in business.
|
Proper pub food, good beer and a friendly atmosphere what more could you want from a pub. I can't help but love the new improved Cricketers.
|
Well, it has finally changed hands. It is really nice to see a happy, friendly Landlord behind the bar and it still has the great group of fun staff. With the imminent start of food, and the reduction of unsavoury customers, things are definitely looking up. And hopefully with the start of food, the smell of fresh paint will fade quickly. The pub is generally looking sleeker, better managed, and clean. The garden has been stripped back and made presentable, and there is no dogs mess anymore. There are also new benches.
I wish the Landlord all the best
|
The good news it's changed hands and was closed whilst the pub was cleaned. It now looks great and I am sure it will get better. Beer tastes really excellent now (as it should always have been). Garden open no dogs muck no inebriated landlady.

Anonymous why hide your name?????????????????????????

Not sure about this place its poor in so many ways.So anonymous 4th June can and cant be wrongin his comment, 1st the place can only get better as its so bad now,but how much will the new people better it remains to be seen (better the devil you know and all that)it could turn into a gastro bar then the currant landlords won`t look so bad who knows?
|
The pub is due to change hands within the week, or so I have been told for the last month. Though the barstaff are friendly and welcoming, there seems to be tension in the air between some of the customers and the present Landlady.
The Landlady and Landlord seem nice enough people when sober, if only this were more often.
With the change of owner, food should be back on a bit later on in the summer.
Definitely somewhere to visit in a month's time.

This used to be my favourite pub to chat, eat and drink, but it's an unfriendly atmosphere and no food! However I've heard from people who still brave it there that changes are ahead! The pub has been sold and new ownership is just round the corner...... this will be the pub I once loved!

What's happened to this place. Went in recently, had to wait 10 mins before the 1 bar man popped up. Think the landlady was sitting at the bar but seemed to be slightly worse for wear (at lunch time). Only 1 beer on tap (which was flat). No food. It was a nice day so went into the 'garden'. Unkempt, strewn with rubbish and fag butts and worst of all - some form of animal faeces all over the patio - how does this happen?!

This pub has a good atmosphere and always seems packed. The fact that you can chew the beer is a negative point. Nice dog.
|
This use to be a great pub, Always packed great atmosphere, great food and well kept beer. Went back recently to find most of the staff have left and are working in the pub down the road, The atmosphere is tight. God knows what happened but I will not be frequenting this place again.

This should be a fantastic pub. It's in a nice area, a decent brewery and most of the barstaff are excellent.
Sadly the landlord drinks too much, and the place has gone downhill rapidly.
He's a nice enough bloke, but it's very sad to see the way he's let it suffer.
How I miss the days of Stuart and Elaine.
|
Now no longer has a master chef, no designated restaurant area any more and only serves bar food. Fantastic beer and the staff are great tho the landlord leaves a lot to be desired definately gone downhill since Stuart and Elaine left for spain.
anonymous - 12 Jun 2006 19:31 |
Can anyone give me the contact details for Stuart and Elaine the old landlords?
Dicky - 20 May 2005 11:27 |
Did you know that there is now a Master Chef of Great Britain working in this pub's restaurant? Wow - got to give it a go...the food is superb.
|
Please ignore my last comment (I was annon). Went back to the cricks early March of this year-its going back to how a pub should be-will definatly visit everytime im down south (moved to north west scotland, so if I can travel 1000 miles for a pint it must be good Good luck to Pete and his other half

I first drank in the cricketers in 1984 when mike and Billie were the hosts. It was gales then. It then changed hands a number of time, with Bill and Kath being the landlords (Bill unfortunately died of a heart attack in the yard). Another couple then took over (who`s names I can`t remember(sorry if you`re reading this) until Stuart & Elaine took over with Fullers being the Brewery. What a transformation-from a scruffy back street pub to one of the best pubs in the country-I should know-I worked there as barman, bar manager and chef for years. Great Beer (fullers pub of the year for the first time while I was still there, and runners up many a time, against stiff competition. I left In January 2001, after a clash of personalities, and only went back to the cricketers in summer 2004-what a change. It had gone from a Homely cosy local to a plastic chain type pub. What used to be the kitchen was now the toilets (I don`t know what that says about my cooking) Beer was OK, but not award winning, and atmosphere was zero, apart from seeing a couple of regulars who wouldn`t move even if the world ended

Food here is now a joke- it's a real shame as it used to be great- staff also don't seem to care either. Off my list for good
JD - 17 Sep 2004 08:44 |
Changed my mind from my previous posting. sorry to say the previous licensee has now left and the beer is no where near the quality it was. Fullers need to sort it out. Now hearing bad comments about the food. The staff are still good though.
Brendon - 9 Apr 2004 08:39 |
Not a fan of this one personally. On the dear side although some of the staff are quite pleasant.
gge - 22 Mar 2004 16:16 |
I like this pub.
Its friendly with a good mix of ages and serves good beer.
I concur with what another poster said - the staff are superb.
I would submit that it is the best pub in the area. Great quiz on Monday evenings as well!
Mark - 14 Mar 2004 19:45 |
Expensive place!
Griff - 5 Mar 2004 13:04 |
I cant understand the comments from Monty. The staff are superb the beer is the best in the area as one would expect of Fullers beers. Not eaten there but have heard good comments about the food served.
Brendon - 4 Mar 2004 18:37 |
Used to be a very nice pub.
