Now 'Sir Christopher Hatton' again.
The most notable part of my visit here was the dreadful pint of Guinness that I was served by the barmaid who knew that it was bad as she swapped pumps halfway through to try and get some life into the pint. I shouldnt have knocked a couple of mouthfuls back as I paid for it a couple of hours later whilst in the Seven Stars.
Anyway, this is a Nicholsons pub with a decent sized open plan bar with numerous picnic tables available for sitting outside. There is also a large cellar bar which was unfortunately closed during my visit as I visited before 5pm. Both of these bars are badly lit, but then most Nicholsons pubs are.
Pride, Landlord, Golden Best, Morrissey Blonde and Dalesides Autumn Leaves were available alongside Old Rosie and a standard and premium draught selection.
I cant see myself returning here again as there are so many better pubs in the area.

Been in here on Holborn pub crawls on a numerous amount of occassions. This pub is a cracker with good interesting range of beers and decent food both served at Nicholsons "Fair Trade" prices ie. not too expensive. Very handy for transport links as it is virtually next to Chancery Lane tube.
The pub also more often than not is spotlessly clean and tidy and there is always a good atmosphere. Will be back soon.

Decent pub with a good range of ales on. Fairly quiet on Tuesday afternoon but would certainly visit again when in the area but only after I had been to the Old Mitre first!!
|
Big improvement since re-opening: now renamed The Sir Christopher Hatton (which was its previous name) as part of the Nicholson's chain. Five or six real ales on when I visited, including two or three interesting looking ones, although pubs in this neck of the woods will always struggle to compete against the Mitre. I had a boring-looking but actually quite tasty sausage bagette. The decor is rather nicer in here than it was when it was the Goose as well.

Wandered in here last Wednesday, first time for years, and knocked out by the range of beers. Had a very decent pint of Wadworth's Henry's IPA. Staff friendly & efficient. Didn't try any food. Recent refurbishment looks good.

As of Friday 1st Of August 2008 Goose Hatton Garden Will Cease Trading
|
Characterless tosshole, but 2 points awarded for serving beer to us when we had been "moved on" from the Cittie Of Yorke up the road.
|
AVOID! Sarcastic and rude food server, loud mouth b'stard if ever there was one and a 20min wait at the bar! After ordering food informed 10mins later that they did not have the meal I requested and had to choose something else. Overcrowded souless pub for people who cannot afford anything better.

Who the hell is toothy and Yossi??
|
Well, what can i say about this place......Home to the goose gangsters !!! Only worth going if you manage to get the comfy sofa at the back. Dont get served by anyone except Toothy and Yossi, those guys are legends !!!!!!

Was really hot when I went here and was watching the England game so I was drinking Guinness (harder to spill). Before it got packed out the place felt souless and I suspect that's what it is usually like. Guinness was ok mind!

visited 10 may 2006. Beer seemed very ordinary even though it was Landlord - how can they make it taste so poor? The outside area is a nice idea in theory but you actually get blasted by the air conditioning outlet and can't hear yourself talk. Enormous queues to get served. Toilets were flooding the floor which meant you had to go for a paddle every time you needed to relive yourself. I wouldn't go there again.
|
It's alrite for a cheap drink... all the city workers go there at lunch and after work. Been there for food... was OK even though one time they had no salt!He he
|
Not a place to play canasta I'm sure, though, where would you play cards in a pub?! Maybe you should try Clerkenwell House
|
What's Wetherspoons got to do with anything, it's a GOOSE [Mitchells and Butlers]? Still a grotty pub though.
|
10 Time better when it was privately owned and trading under the Sir Christopher Hatton. Weatherspoons rips the soul out of yet another pub.
|
Went in here because the Old Mitre shut early. All the real ale hand pumps had signs saying the barrel was being changed. So we went over to the Melton Mobrey for a reliable pint of Fullers. However thought we would try again a couple of hours later, because surely they had the barrels back on now. But NO. Same label hanging on the pumps. Fortunately on questioning one of the bar staff to how you achieved to get a pint of beer they pointed us to a nice little pub just up the road. So my advice with the Goose is. Stand outside facing the pub. Then turn to the left and walk up the road 200 yards. That is what we will be doing next time.
|
It's not a bad pub. Just another run of the mill chain pub. Unpretentious. Doesn't try to be flash cos it would fail. Not bad but not good.
|
It's okay. Nothing special. Good food though. Pain in the arse having the non-smoking area when you're out with people who are smoking as there's never anywhere to bloody sit to eat!
Downstairs aint bad with the pool tables.

Seems to be going downhill rapidly. Although the burger and pint deal advertises 'Tetley' only Tetley Smooth is offered not the hand pumped version. There is also a promotion on Bombardier this Friday/Saturday/Sunday - 5th pint free of a hat with the 5th pint. However not only is Bombardier not available on the first day of this 3 day promotion but there was no real ale available at all
|
Post Xmas - Bass or Tetley, no guest beer
|
Pretty poor - uninspired beers, too busy, prevailing air of dirtiness. If you want a bargain chain pub around here, your best best is a quick stroll up Farringdon Road to the Printworks run by Wetherspoons.

Pub in office block on corner of High Holborn. Ground floor tends to be smokey but serves Adnams, Tetley and a guest. Downstairs has less smoke, pool table and a few comfy chairs. Food ranges from a meal deal of a Burger and a pint to mixed grill and steaks

Has had a name change mid-2003, but as I can't remember what the new name is, will have to have a look on Monday and post back.

Generally full at lunchtimes on a friday - has a real city boy local feel to it. However, it is normally quite empty in the evenings. Fairly boring place.
