Old Coastguard Hotel, Mouseholeback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Still massively popular, and still great beer choice but be warned, it's expensive! It does showcase local brewers, including Padstow windjammer and a Penzance craft beer I cant remember... Screech owl scrumpy worth a go if you like a real farmyard cider. Certainly worth a visit if your on holiday in the area, just to sit in the lovely garden...

This is the chic choice, and if you want a more traditional pub, head for the Ship, or The Kings Arms 5 mins walk up the hill in Paul. It is a very trendy bar, but very nice with it, and a beer choice second to none in this area. St.Austell Tribute, Skinners Betty Stoggs and The Rebel Brewing Co. 80 shilling scotch ale. Screech Owl flat cider and Cornish Orchards also on draught. If you are on Holiday in this area I would definitely recommend you visit here at least once.

I think you need to read all the comments below and settle on a middle ground... it is definitely geared up for eating, but in the summer at least that is not a problem when most will head for the amazing garden. Food was on the expensive side, but very good to boot... Staff were attentive. Beers were Skinners Betty Stoggs, Harbour Brewing Company IPA (I think from Tintagel) and another from the Cornish Crown brewery, so pretty good for real ale fans. Again, there was a real scrumpt cider called Screech Owl, from the River cider company. In the summer do access the beach via gate at bottom of garden. People pile up stones into some great stacks, which amuses the kids and parents alike

Overall, I was quite disappointed with my visit here recently. There was nothing bad about it per se - nicely done up, very friendly staff and good service, tasty food - but it even for that it was very expensive, not least because the portion sizes were tiny. If you want a meal in the village, I much preferred the 2 Fore Street restaurant, which was a little cheaper, at least as good quality and with less pretentious portions.
Following on from others' comments... They did have some tables set up just for drinkers and those not eating - so I got the impression that people just stopping off for a drink would be welcome.

still not really a pub but has new management who rumour has it that are more welcoming.

Not a pub at all. One of those places that's got up itself. I used to go here regularly for crab sandwiches and Doom Bar. I agree, it does have a lovely view, and it is large, pine-finished and smart. Funny someone should say, "made it feel uncomfortable". I agree. One day in 2007, there were no crab sandwiches and the staff were on the "take it or leave it" side, so I've never been back. They're too smart for beer and crab sandwiches. Plenty of better pubs in Mousehole.

As others have mentioned this place needs to make drinkers more welcome if it wants to lay claim to being bar & restaurant. Now very big & can appear cold & uninviting when half empty.

Doom Bar available. Excellent views from the restaurant. We are staying here for my brother's wedding up the road. Food is a little on the bland side, but the desserts are excellent. For a real "pub" stroll down across the harbour to the Ship Inn, Mousehole.
As a hotel, I would generally give it a higher rating for the room comfort, location and views from all rooms, but the food lets it down.

I don't understand some of the above reviews.....this is a fantastic HOTEL and RESTAURANT, and pretty obviously not a pub!! You should stay there, or at least eat there, before reviewing the place.....the food is as fabulous as the views, I don't think you get sea views like this in Essex!! The Ship....is a great PUB!!

LIKE BEING IN ESSEX WE WERE MADE TO FEEL VERY UNCOMFORTABLE , THIS WAS THE WORST PLACE WE VISITED BUT THE PUB ON THE QUAY (SHIP I THING ) WAS GREAT
|
Think of this as a restaurant. There are other pubs in the village if you just want a beer. Good menu, great food, sadly slow service. They don't seem to want you if you're not eating as reviewed earlier, but the beers are well kept.

The pub does indeed have a fantastic view over Mounts Bay, but it is more of a restaurant than a pub! You feel a bit like you are not welcome unless you are dining. I love Mousehole with a passion and this place has changed a lot since I was a lad on holiday! That is NOT just fond memories and rose coloured glasses!!!

A large pub with fantastic views out to see. Good food and a good selection of beers including cornwall's own Sharpes Beer
