Also on BITE as 'The Regent', which is its actual name - the Prince Regent was its name under former landlords.

Agree with planner_21.
I spent an hour talking with a local postman.
Its a local and I don't think they want it to be a boozer, but they have the right attitude that is being a friendly place to have a drink, maybe a meal (no pressure) and the jukebox is great (Type in 1801 on a regular basis).
|
I don't agree that it's more "restaurant than a boozer". They do serve food (pizzas last time I looked) but it still feels like a pub and so far I've only drunk in there.
The decor was more pub-like before but after it closed, it became some sort of cafe and got stripped out. I'd like it to be a little warmer (in a decor sense) but overall still quite like it here.

I can't entirely agree with davidb. Yes it serves food but at what is really a basic "need to get some food down me" level. It is not a restaurant (unlike Barnsbury next door). Yes they tend to serve fancy lagers and wine but I should point out that the pub here before which served good ales (sometimes) failed.
It is horses for courses and the lunch trade is the best I have seen since it ever, and I have worked here for 20 years.
We are in Islington and I think they've got it about right for the area.
|
Good to see it open again, but now more of a restaurant than a boozer. Fancy lagers are the only option, but the surroundings are pleasant. I preferred the previous incarnation when it was still a pub, but worth a try if you're in the area.

This is not a review as such, but it would be nice and courteous to the new owners if The Regent was recognised by this site as "OPEN", as currently many will be put off going to this marvellous establishment thinking it is still closed.

First class establishment, excellent customer service. The pizza's are rather splendid and a good atmosphere in this pub.Top night out.

The Regent is now well & truly open for business and very impressive to boot, Great Beer, Ales & wine list and the centre piece being the wood burning Pizza oven that turns out freshly baked pizza to die for, thees also a free duke box that caters for just about everyones taste & down stairs theres a comfy lounge area where you can watch all the latest sport if thats your thing. Saturday night was buzzing, sure to become one of "The"plces to go in Islington.

New name is The Regent and they are doing very fine pizzas.Beer is normal Islington prices and they have a widish range of ales and lagers, including Perroni on tap. Opened this week so give them a chance, I need a pub close by.
|
New something coming soon apparently, bar staff required!!
|
It looks like I was right to worry. The pub has closed down.
|
I agree with all the below BUT I am worried that the fact it is now closed weekday lunchtimes indicates that it is heading in the same way as all the other pubs/clubs/restaurants that have cropped up here over the last 15 years.
Lets hope not.

I still like this pub, but:
1. On December 30th there were quite a few children in there at 10pm. Call me boring but that is not why I go to a pub.
2. There was no ale on - at all.
3. At 6pm on NYE, we were told the place was closing for 2 hours so we went elsewhere and had a great night thanks very much.

Fantastic food, wide range of booze and cocktails, friendly bar staff. A great pub in the traditional sense. The perfect winter retreat, and now with added pool table and olde table top galaxians

Best burgers in Islington (and possibly London)...gets a bit mad when the football is on though. Just added pooltable.

great value food, cooked freshly on the premises. a wide range of dishes, even for veges. Big windows, open spaces, not crowded, good music - everything you want from a pub.

Great boozer with exceptional "English fine fare". Food great value (Sunday lunch superb). I would definately go back and recommend to all.

Simply one of the undiscovered gems of Islington's bar scene. Recently under new management, the pub is an open, airy oasis that contrasts the all too crowded chain bars of nearby Upper Street. I was particularly suprised to find Kirin on tap, served by a friendly barman, and a local clientel that held the comfortable atmosphere
