This is a great pub with friendly bar service and talkative regulars. I've been visiting regularly for about 2 years and never had a bad experience. Brilliantly set out for watching football as well.

Great pub best in Lewisham by a mile. Top class
|
A big improvement after recent refubishment. I found it friendly, decent service and nice beer garden at the back. Excellent for watching the footy as you can see a screen from wherever you stand. London Pride on handpump.
|
Traditional-ish exterior, but inside it has has been smartened up in fairly simple but effective way with dart boards and pool table being the dominant features. Just Pride on for those interested in real ale, but this was well kept. Good community feel to the place.

Went in this pub a month ago and really liked it. Beer was kept clean, services was friendly and quick and people in pub were up for a chat.

This is the local of a couple of friends of mine, so I have visited it many times over the years. It has always been a friendly pub and remains so to this day. I used to call it "the dirtiest pub in the world" but since Sean & Donna took over a couple of years ago they have worked wonders refurbishing the pub inside and out. The gents are a delight although I do miss the horseshoe bar and I'm not too sure about the tall tables! The beer garden at the rear is a real oasis with a covered smoking terrace, there's plenty of screens for sports, pool and darts teams, it's a good local of the old school.

I have recently moved back to the area after 2 yrs working away, noticed the amazing change to the front of the pub which made me curious as to what it was like inside. Well I was gobsmacked, it was like walking into a completely different pub. Its been refurbed beyond recognition, Its fantastic, clean, warm and welcoming. The ladie's toilets are fantastic, very well decorated and kept. The staff and customers are very friendly as are the new owners. My freinds and I will definately be using the rising sun on a regular basis, great pub

Recently heavily re-furbished and now looks a bit less traditional than before. Its a pity they've lost the horseshoe bar. Though the new clear glass windows mean that you can see in from the street which seems to help quite a lot. And they still have the big garden out the back of course.
The London Pride is decent enough and a welcome change in a bit of a real ale desert (not so sure about their brief flirtation with Speckled Hen)
Still very much a local and all the better for it. One of a dying breed in London.

This is a traditional local pub. It had a reputation for late night lock-ins (but actually always had a late license) and would loock the doors after 11.00. It changed management last year and is improving (it was a bit of a dump) so visit and encouage it!.Its been partially refurbed (May08). The staff are very competent and friendly. It keeps London Pride very well and has just added Speckled Hen. Prices are reasonable (2.70-2.90 pint). Big on darts and pool and, for those who smoke, it has an excellent outside paio/garden area. Often fee food on offer from pool/darts tournament wihich the staff invite customers to take. Clientele are quite mixed - worth popping in for a pint if you're passing - plans to do food menu soon.

I think this pub has been taken over recently. The beer has come down a little in price, about 20p a pint but it makes a difference. I was in here on a big darts night the other week and then went back at the weekend. I was impressed by how friendly and mixed the staff and punters were. The back terrace and patio were full of happy smokers and the pride was pretty well kept. I'd recommend it if you like a proper pub.

Its just a local. Its also just about the only real local left in the area. Not a destination pub, but a nice enough place for a beer after work, and it can be quite busy early in the evening when people coming home from work bump into those having a pint before a night out. It can be very quiet later in the evening unless there is a darts match, or pool, or a party - though there is usually at least one of each every week or so. Weekends very variable. Friday is usually lively, Saturday can be dead. When the local teenagers are feeling flush they are off up town, when they are broke they can be laughing ang giggling round the pool table here.
Beer includes well-kept London Pride and prices are about average for the area - cheaper than the teenage lager sheds in the High Street, more expensive than Wetherspoons (which has taken some of the older and sadder trade from the Rising Sun). A good pub for smokers as there are French windows out to a back terrace and a largish garden so you can have a fag without having to stand in the street or abandon your mates.

HaHA I was in here on Saturday, bad move.
The poster in the window says it all. Please bring your Friends and tell them to bring there friends, transplant to English (we have made a mistake putting the beer up so much in one go)now we have no customers

Irish Eyes...... Read my comment? I too was having a bit of a go at the unfavorable comments!! It was someone else who talked about the price of Fosters (wouldn't drink it if it was free). A small constructive complaint.... I am all for music but not so loud that your glass rattles.
|
Dr watson or who ever u are before posting your comments about the pub please get your facts right the price of fosters has gone up to 2.70 but did not take a 70p jump because that would of made the price of fosters 2.00 which DR WATSON never was that price 2.00 so before u post another comment please get your facts right.........

New landlord making an attempt to spruce the place up.Think the last two reviews are slightly unfair as the general mix of people in the place seems the same as usual..... yes there are the boys in Burberry but they have always been there as have the big mix of "older" and black drinkers.A reflection of Lewisham's population and all the better for it.
Beer is OK, pride is always drinkable.
|
My local, and I miss its pre-refurb days. It may not have looked up to much, but it couldn't have been more welcoming. The barmaids now are friendly enough, but the old mix has gone, replaced by young lads in Hackett clobber comparing their sovs. Just another Lewisham pub now, I'll give Albertines a go for a bit instead.
|
The pub has been taken over and it not a good thing price for a pint of fosters 2.70. They think splashing a bit of paint around will allow a 70p price.walked Just passed there and there is not one person in there. GOING DOWN HILL FAST (SORRY GONE)

Genuinely my favourite pub in the world. Both the staff and the regulars are lovely. There is rarely any trouble and a real family atmosphere. I have spent many a happy hour both drinking and serving amongst them!

A surprising pub located on a busy main road. Had many a top notch evening here!! A perfect blend of locals and passers by with a good friendly atmosphere, friendly bar staff and great beer. Spotlessly clean and tidy. Good for a group outing!!
