please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Didn't look to impressive from the outside. But inside is fairly immaculate and had a group of regulars and a welcoming landlord. Beers were all from Harveys - Sussex Best Bitter, Armada & Pale Ale. We chose to sit on a bench outside the front of the pub where dozens of bees were enjoying the lavender. It's only a short walk from here to the Kings Head. So it is nice to combine the two.

New guys been here a while now. Always a cheery, friendly welcome from Jools behind the bar. Beer (all Harveys) always in excellent condition. Haven't tried the food yet myself, but only positive reports from those who have.

Under new management again. I know the new guys have a good track record. Will give them a while to get going and see what happens.

Things have changed...Now under new management. Tim and Donna took over around mid Feb 2012. Despite having no previous pub experience (everyone has to start somewhere) they are giving it a go. It is early days and they are still finding their way in some areas. But, the beer is good, generally it is busier on the bar side, and the welcome is much warmer.

I recently visited this pub with several family members aged between 6 and 87 for an early evening meal. All the meals were delicious. Beautifully cooked, presented and served. We couldn't criticise anything except to say the portions were enormous! Denise the chef and landlady is really friendly and chatty, however John the landlord is probably the most sullen, miserable and unsociable landlord I have ever met. I would certainly recommend this pub if you want a really lovely meal but don't expect the landlord to welcome you !!

Popped in for a pint and sandwich one day last week and the pub is now far more welcoming. The new landlords have made an impression already. It was quiet though, I hope it is busier in the evenings. Both sandwich and pint recommended!

I called in here on Saturday evening during the East Hoathly bonfire celebrations and witnessed the vandalism performed by previous tenants. It was my first visit for a year or two. The only thing to say in it's favour is that the Bonfire Boy was excellent. John and Denise can only make improvements, and I'm sure they will if their previous Harveys home is anything to go by.

This used to be a great village pub. It has suffered a few ups and downs of recent times. Some at the hands of the tenants/managers (call them what you will) and some problems caused by the ultimate landlords, Harveys.

It is now under the management of a new couple - John and Denise - who have had an established and successful track record with another Harveys house not to far from here. They have a lot of work to do and a lot of problems to unwind.

It would be unfair for me to rate this pub at the moment as they have only just picked up the keys! They have chosen a tough time to step up to the crease, but we wish them well.

Steve, The Good Pub Guide entry is probably a relic from the former landlord who is now making a real go of The Rose and Crown at Burwash (another Harveys estate pub). Next time check the comments in BITE first!

Very quiet and lacking in atmosphere, disappointed with this place especially as its in the Good Pub Guide

Ah dreadful! who on earth refurbished this lovely local pub? It used to be great. An awful tacky modern bar has replaced the old antique. Ruined by vandals and judging by the lack of customers, we not the first to find this. Harveys seem to changing and trying to me more "corporate" , real shame

The refurbishment came as a bit of a shock, but it's still a pleasant enough pub. I'm not convinced the beer was in quite as good condition as under the previous landlord though.

Friendly pub, well kept ales, great food, I can highly recommend the carvery, and the King Prawns in Filo pastry are pretty good as well.
