Crispin, Newportback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
I called in on a walk around the town trail, following some pretty enthusiastic reviews from previous punters. However, I certainly wasn't impressed. There were only two real ales on, and the barman seemed to know nothing much about either of them. The "London Pride" I had was certainly nothing to be proud about, and the whole place had a slightly dispirited feel. Having said that, the outdoor drinking area at the back was sunny and pleasant. But I'd much rather do my drinking at the "Castle" a couple of doors down the street, and certainly shan't call in at this place again.

It has a great exterior. Really impressive. Unfortunately, I wasn't so impressed when I set foot inside with my mate. It has alot of open space - I personally prefer the smaller, pokier pubs but that's just me. The barman was friendly. Range of ale (which is why we went in) was limited. The pints of Spitfire we got were pretty rough. Not the greatest. I'll pop in another time. Maybe it was just an off day.

A mixed recent visit May 6th - just a handful of people in on a Saturday night.: The 2 bar staff seemed to be drinking faster than the punters - but all pretty friendly. The Greene King IPA was so-so, but a tolerable Youngs Bitter.

Spent a great afternoon here before the Isle of Wight festival. Good beer, reasonably priced and very friendly bar staff.
