ok pub, but pricey and ale was iffy to be honest, but that may be a one off.

Only one ale yesterday lunchtime, but very nice it was too.
Proper "locals" boozer, but I liked it!
|
3 Box Steam beers on offer yesterday plus Addlestons cider. Quality was fine and prices from 3.10. Nice beer garden in the rear.

There are a lot of pubs close together in this part of Salisbury. This one's a bit scruffy, but friendly enough with a good range of ales.

Busy when I visited the Wed before Xmas. Sharp's Doom Bar in excellent condition, pub was busy with earthy but friendly clientele, loud juke box! 7/10
|
Large multi-roomed back street pub. 2 pool tables. I'd say that it is mainly a locals pub but the welcome was friendly enough. Beer selection not wonderful - Courage, Doombar and TT Landlord at 3. Quality was fine but there are better pubs in the area.

Great pub but they really should spend more time training their new staff.

by far the most welcoming pub in salisbury, good selection of ales all well kept and a friendly bunch of locals who are happy to indulge the roaming traveller....cracking juke box too

A nice traditional pub feat Sharp's Doombar,W&Y's Courage Best & M's Wychwood Hobgoblin.Cheap 5 for 1 jukebox,I opted for the Doom(2.90) that was well kept so I ended up stopping for 2. 7/10

Nice enough pub but nothing much in the way of ale. In fact, the Sharps Doom Bar I had was not in the best of condition. Go to the Winchester Gate for superb real ales.

Cosy, well run and easy-going boozer, now sadly engaged in a battle with the council over noise generated from the courtyard beer garden. Chief complainer, I'm told, only relatively recently a resident. Can only presume that his/her property was bought sight unseen; Salisbury is not short of a pub or two in this area! An infinitely better bet than the overpriced and slightly pretentious Coach & Horses just up the road, whose landlady once took issue with me when I questioned why she'd charged me more for the same round than we'd been served all night by her staff! "If you don't like it, you can leave", was her opening gambit! Never forgotten it.... No nonsense of that kind here, thankfully.

No Moles beers except a light(er) version of Black Rat cider (brewery page suggests that would only be bottled?), other handpumps had Courage (why oh why?), Spitfire & Sharps Cornish Coaster, and the landlord suggested he hoped to increase the range soon. Indeed the whole pub seemed to be somewhat in transition with evidence of restructuring around a separate pool-table area, and room to front which had its own tv in addition to a plasma to left of bar. Diversions offered in form of games compendium (chess, backgammon etc). Nice leadlight windows at front, beer garden to rear. Not bad, but a work in progress

A really nice cozy pub with friendly staff and some well kept ales on tap. During our visit we really enjoyed a guest ale from Cornwall, called Tribute. It was a recommendation by the woman behind the bar and it was easily one of the best ales I have ever had in England- superb! If you;re in Salisbury, it's a great place to hoist a few pints.

We liked this pub - good quality cheap beer, good selection. Juke Box was cheap and full of top tunes - pool was also cheap, although the little stick was a pain where the table was too big for the space. Had nice beam features and relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Pretty decent pub - will def. visit again.

nice pub, very well kept beer, nice staff what more can you ask for.

We've also recently moved (almost 4 months) to Salisbury and have found the Anchor and Hope to be the best pub we've come across so far. Extremely friendly and welcoming bar staff and landlord (Bill), a decent-priced, decent pint of still cider, local Moles ales and quite often, Cornish ales from the St Austell Brewery (this is a definite bonus). The beer garden is great. Sometimes when the TV is going and the music is playing it can become a bit cacophanous and it's a shame there are now two large TVs in the bar area (presumably for the World Cup - does any pub exist where football is banned?!). We've also tried the pizza which is extremely good considering it comes from a pub kitchen!

Very friendly and laid back. Rare to find a half decent jukebox as well as Moles beer (when it's on) and any time is Pizza time ...

We've only lived in Salisbury a short while but this has been the friendliest and most easy going pub we've found. Cosy sofas inside, nicely decked area outside. Pizzas on demand , good jukebox and a reasonably priced pint (including good local ales).

The serve real scrumpy cider so beware! A few pints and the pavement seems slightly closer!

Spent a wonderful new year here last year when we had just moved into the area.
Free entry and free buffet - staff were lovely and everyone was very friendly.
I flashed my boobs at midnight and still didnt get thrown out!
Does look a little bit rough but dont let it put you off!
