user reviews of the Duke, Richmond

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

CAN I JUST CLARIFY...."The Duke" pub is NOT closed..!!
I believe the 'closed' bit refers to the previously named bar 'The Racing Page'. [BITE managers to note] :o)
TeeJay - 2 Apr 2013 19:38
Refurbished and turned into a souless food place. The screens are gone, the bands are gone, the bar is smaller and the soul has been ripped out of the place.
FreakyDancer - 8 Apr 2008 16:50
RIP the Racing Page..... PAH!!!!
Never have i pah'ed Time out, This pub has for gone a tremendous tranformation, somebody has put alot of thought in to recruiting here, the service is freindly and welcoming and the girls know there there stuff, and the guys in the kitchen quite obviously know what they are doing, my wife and i stumbled across this little treasure on our way back from booking theatre tickets, and shall be returning again and again, the potted crab was delectabe, and an inspired side of caulifower cheese along side my lamb shank was out of this world.
People of Richmond you are lucky people, we shall certainly be making a trip back to the Duke.
seriousfoodie - 19 Mar 2008 23:44
Really noce pub now, lovely friendly service and excellent Fullers London Pride.
Pat - 13 Mar 2008 11:41
ASnyone know where Tom, the Thai Chef has gone? He must have rented another kitchen nearby?
Pickn - 6 Mar 2008 12:32
I wasn't familiar with the previous place but I have to say that the Duke, as it is now, is a very fine pub - nice ales, great food and a very relaxed atmosphere. Appreciate that this may upset those who missd the Page, but I can only review what is there now, and I for one will be going again.
Birchy - 3 Mar 2008 21:12
Alas it happens to them all. The page has now turned into candlelit table dining. Long live the page :-(
aimz93 - 6 Jan 2008 15:29
Now called The Duke
dave99 - 23 Dec 2007 19:28
Major refurb currently going on in this pub
slacker - 6 Nov 2007 14:22
Not one of my favourite pubs, but Richmond needs another gastro pub like a fish needs a bicycle, so on that count alone, its a shame if it goes
JohnBonser - 24 Oct 2007 17:26
Black armbands all round. Fingers crossed, the new owners will see sense and bring back what made the page so great, but I'm not holding my breath.
I_Love_Rugby - 23 Oct 2007 13:01
GOODBYE TO A GREAT PUB AND SOME GREAT TIMES...LONG LIVE THE PAGE
drusilla - 22 Oct 2007 13:56
Lovely pub with a great food and very friendly staff. Pity it will be turning into a gastro pub I hear will be a shame to lose the regulars that go there. I wont be going back when it changes.
abc1234 - 17 Aug 2007 14:04
Really really good pub, but I'm very worried by the news that the new oweners are getting rid of the band nights, the thai kitchen and the screens.

So what was a great place to get good food, hear live music and watch sport, is going to become yet another bland soulless gastro-pub. :-(
I_Love_Rugby - 16 Aug 2007 10:54
Yes a good pub, excellent and friendly service good range of drinks but it is very very loud sometimes a bit too much. Saying that the atmosphere is always good in here and drink range good - Even though keep meaning too have never made the Sunday Band nights which are meant to be great.
KatrinaD - 11 Apr 2007 13:36
Agreed excellent (if a little Pricey). Especially for the music. As for the Allbeats I was chatting to the guitarist from them a while back at another gig he did and apparently they got slung out of there for being a little worse for wear!!!!!
Darios_Trousers - 27 Mar 2007 11:35
Was in there for the rugby on Saturday. What a great atmosphere, everyone was enjoying the game, even the Scots. Will be back to watch the other games here for sure.
**Highly recomended pub for rugby days**
drusilla - 4 Feb 2007 13:35
I really enjoy this pub for its food and for its live music on a sunday evening. Is there a web-site for it? Often have to ring up to see which bands are on, but would prefer to see who's booked in advance on a web-site but haven't managed to find one yet. What happened to the Allbeats? They were a great band!
Luscious - 25 Nov 2006 17:09
Top Pub, Great range of drinks and good atmosphere. keep up the good work.
wombat - 31 Oct 2006 20:33
The refurbish is tasteful, but like many they've removed all soft furnishings so when crowded the noise is really oppressive. The (thai) food is excellent, much better than most pubs who have gone down this route. The staff are very friendly and the drinks well looked after, if pricey. Would have given 9/10 if not for the incredibly loud TV and then music - I know this is a live music venue, but when there's no band and hardly any customers is it really necessary to be that loud?
Oolybel - 29 Sep 2006 14:18
one of if not the best pub in richmond. with the provision of great atmosphere and energy from the delightfull bar staff. the food is award winning i seriously recoment no34 on the Tai menu, its to die for. if you enjoy live music pop down on a sunday night get early to aviod dissapointment because the bar does fill up quickly with people dancsing and enjoying themselves.
The managment are very friendly and approchable, if you have a promblem or a quiery they deal with it to their best abilities.
hence giving a rating of 9
boz - 23 Aug 2006 10:43
Nice pub, very close to Richmond Green. I've always found the staff friendly & v.helpful. Fairly recently revamped (to keep up with the Orange Tree's & Old Ships on this parish)!!
I know last year (maybe earlier 2006) they had a young Thai chef doing special Thai meals, if you like that type of food. (I'm not sure if he's still there - but it was good)! Another 'long/thin' pub, a bit like the Cricketers (on Richmond Green) with slightly more room. Live bands on Sunday nites (& Saturday..?) if you're feeling young enough. If you're really young (!) nip around the back to 'The Lot', another bar 10yds away (behind Richmond high street). Most visitors to Richmond would miss the Racing Page, en route to more salubrious establishments, but a nice little bar, handy for The Green or Richmond Theatre if thats your bag! 5/10. TJ
TeeJay - 18 Jul 2006 16:46
Gifted but Lazy is the greatest pub band ever.
anonymous - 21 May 2006 04:30
Well run pub, always get served quickly and there always seems to be a buzz about the place. Not many pubs to go to in Richmond on Saturdays but this is one
ladyluc - 5 May 2006 10:02
I posted a comment about the Page waaaay back in September 2003 and went back again the other night for the first time in a while. Even though my team got done live on Sky while I was there I still had a decent enough time here, so that must say something good about either the pub or the people I was with (and if you've met my mates you'll no doubt assume the former!(joke lads, joke)). There is a decent selection of beers which I don't remember being too pricey and a coupe of the barmaids/waitesses were stunners! The barman/manager bloke was very helpfull in getting the footy on all the screens for us (which due to the aforementioned performance from my shite team was a wastes of time but 10/10 for effort on his part). It was a touch too bright at the end of the pub nearest the street and pretty smokey down the other end but what's a pub without a bit of bright light and fag smoke? (answer: a better pub). One nice touch was the eternally flushing toilet in the gents. It didn't overflow but it constantly whisked away your 'waste' while you sat there which was a unique experience. Not so much fun though if you're one of those blokes that likes to see how impressive his 'deposit' is once he's done. Locking floor to ceiling cubicle door too which is increasingly rare these days.
chopperbomb - 14 Feb 2006 21:35
jesus....vindication two happy punters well thats only taken 23 years ha ha all i have to say then is thanks job done nuff said
mattfielder - 15 Dec 2005 19:05
That's the ticket sledge455, a fresh and open minded comment. Your senses are tuned to a great pub, with a fair attitude to new (and old) bands. Totally agree with the comment about lovely bar staff (trend and company ethos started by Mr. Nicol himself....based around their workrate of course!). Keep on rockin in the free world.
anonymous - 14 Dec 2005 21:02
Don't know about all the other fuss that has been going on, but wandered in on Sunday to see what was happening anyway. All I can say is, great live band(HJ21), don't care how old they were, miles better and enthusiastic than any of the other bands that have played there previously. Go check them out, originals as well as covers.

Lovely bar staff (and total babes!), very friendly, good atmosphere, shows the sport and half-decent beer. I'll be back.
sledge455 - 13 Dec 2005 16:58
Never used to be that keen on this place, but went in after a long absence and not sure why I disliked it - Seemed a great pub, with a decent atmosphere. Would visit again definitely.

Was 80% men - Perhaps all the women who make up 80% of the Orange Trees customers these days should pop over here if they want to pull, as there's no men in that sad excuse for a pub now.
TheGP - 11 Dec 2005 14:29
Well that gets my vote ha ha nice one mr nicol 'past our sell by date?.....we shoulda been in the quaruanteed toxic food section ha ha" nice to hear from ya again you were a great landlord, but gareths a sound fella too oh and by the way i think that fat drummer booted out of the stereophonics has a new band lookin for a venue ..just a thought mind look you!! Anyways ill sing one for ya tonight and maybe miss kensit might pop in with her ripped panto tights still on towards the end.....lets raaawwwwkkk!!
anonymous - 11 Dec 2005 12:51
Hey fella's leave me out of it.
I am the previous 'Guv' that you metioned and ran the place, with my wife, for 7 years, until a few months ago.
I have always had a great realtionship with the many bands that played during my tenure. I also gave new bands the break they needed, just ask, Fake Tan, Mother Truckers , Carnation and Gifted but Lazy....not to mention allowing HJ21 to play beyond their sell by date...Just kidding Matt!
I love you boys!
I suggest if you have a problem with the bookings policy, you ring the current manager, Gareth, and take it up with him, instead of using this site to slag the place off.
PS
If you are interested, I have bought my own pub and am currently looking for decent bands, so, Mr Musicians Watch, if you know of a decent band in South West Wales, let me know.
Kindest Regards,
Matt Nicol
matthewjnicol - 11 Dec 2005 01:07

The only band that have had to be cancelled was because the band turned up half drunk and quite unable to finish some of the songs they played. They took an extended break at 10.15 for ten mins at a time when the bar had to close at 10.30(under licensing laws) and had started later than they were supposed to. I dont want to get into a fisticuffs fight over this as its not worth it but the honest truth is that this band got paid for this 'gig' and were then asked to cancel their remaining gigs because they had previously been warned for almost exactly the same reasons by the previous manager a few months earlier. I hope this brings it all to a close and people can get on without slagging each other off anymore.
Thanks
anonymous - 7 Dec 2005 16:57
Now I like that a reaction, must have hit a raw nerve! Must be the old guv under a pseudonym.
We are only stating a truth and a fact and that many other musicians have experienced the same problem at this venue so the problem is not only with me personally.

If you turned up for work one day and told to sod off and weren't getting paid I think you would be pretty hacked off. Then thinking about it in Richmond we do have Mummy and Daddy to run to if money runs out unlke some of us!

Elitists
MusiciansWatch - 2 Dec 2005 17:51
Musicians Watch eh? What a funny name you have. I see you've only ever left one other comment on BITE and it was pretty much the same thing about another pub. You don't think the problem might be you?
wilbur101 - 1 Dec 2005 09:46
MUSICAINS WATCH??? COR WHO LEARNED YOU TO SPEL!! must be a drummer!! well funny that what i like about the pub is the fact that when certain bands singers turn up wasted and let all the punters down their next gig is offered to a slightly more sober candidate (only messin Rolly) and ill grant you that is only slightly marginal but thanks largely to that and also due to an overwhelming lack of interest and unpoular demand for us after two and a half years Hj21 will be darkening the doors of this wonderful establishment on sunday dec 11th again!! Complete with a new guitarist and their unique brand of "lets head for the exits after the first track" stadium /pub anthems! However rumours that the fact there are now only two doors from which the punters can leave is what eventually swung it are as yet unsubstantiated!! anyway cum under the covers with us and let us fill your stockings with some christmas cheer (for however brief a time) p.s.Personly i think Gareth is a wonderful manager not many pubs you can get a gig with such short notice!!
anonymous - 30 Nov 2005 21:40
*IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM MUSICAINS WATCH*
IF YOUR A MUSICIAN OR A BAND MAKING A LIVING FROM MUSIC AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE AS THE MANAGEMENT HAVE A VERY BAD TENDANCY OF BOOKING YOU FOR A GIG OR GIGS AND THEN CANCELLING YOU FOR NO GOOD REASON AT VERY SHORT NOTICE. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL.
MusiciansWatch - 28 Nov 2005 20:24
Sorry, the below comment was meant to say 'refreshing'. To many Guinness!
chimp - 20 Nov 2005 12:54
It's freshing to go in a pub and see the bar staff make a beeline towards you instead of chatting to their mates or ignoring you. A good pub. Well done to all the staff.
chimp - 20 Nov 2005 12:51
Great pub just off main high st. Was concerned about prices from what othersusers have said but fosters only 2.80 a pint. Went to watch a band play on the Suday..'Fake Tan' they were awesome...place was packed out...so much fun there! Bar staff were friendly and served in order rather than to their friends or big chested customers!!!
I_like_beer - 30 Aug 2005 11:38
would everybody pipe down about the price, WELCOME TO RICHMOND! by far the quickest, friendliest, staff in richmond,(well they were a couple of months ago) well worth paying an extra 20p a pint. Live music great there was a new band a couple of weeks ago 'gifted but lazy' shows alot of potential, and nice to see someone promoting local (young) talent at last. Yes Roland, i think its time you put your voice to rest. Hey it'll give you more time for drinking!

great atmosphere, great food, great staff, great music, the only place i'll drink in richmond b4 11pm
PS good luck with the liscence app guys, and keep up the good work.
anonymous - 16 Aug 2005 16:38
changing management apparently, shame cos the previous dude was really good (matt?) Hope the new management keeps the place as welcoming for the weekends. It is probably the most expensive pub in richmond, but it's so damn nice it's worth it, worth paying for the food as well, mmm. Sunday nights are always ace - good bands (generally, although the muttz nuttz are really dull), and friendly regulars. Gotta love the page.
sesh - 13 Aug 2005 23:23
Awesome band on Sunday night (19th June) and the air-con made it far more pleasant!

Shame that it's probably the most expensive bar in Richmond though.
I_Love_Rugby - 21 Jun 2005 11:00
The live bands just keep getting better.
Drop in on a sunday night for great cover bands and good looking girls dancing on tables.
Good for the more mature drinker / music lover( Thats over 25's if ya don't know what I mean)
If you dont' know the words to "Sweet Home Alabama" stay at home...and do your homework!
jackybrown007 - 8 Jun 2005 00:15
Visited Saturday afernoon. Quite quiet, good pint of Guinness, quick nice staff. Lovely pub, I felt comfortable and will return.
chimp - 5 Jun 2005 12:02
Fantastic place to watch sport and the staff!
Best looking barmaids in London.
Great service and the food is awesome
porterboy - 26 May 2005 22:40
Good food and nearly always good atmosphere although does get it fair share of idiots. Staff are friendly though and all in all good laugh
sazz - 12 Apr 2005 10:35
Delicious Thai food.
ThisMortalCoil - 24 Mar 2005 20:26
Great Pub tucked away down a side street away from the shite that is Richmond High St.
Food is the main reason to come here, but they have a fairly good selection of draught beers & lagers.
We watched the rugby on the weekend, it was relaxed & fun but did turn a bit roudy once the southerners arrived back after the rugby. I saw some people dancing on the tables, which looked like a bit of a laugh....ah if I was only 10 years younger!!!
Will be back again soon
nightnomad69 - 7 Mar 2005 17:40
this pub was rocking last night, it was only half full but we were all treated to the greatest band i have ever seen i think they were called the muts nuts, they truly are awesome, the allbeats are a very close second best, and always play a week after the mighty nuts, prey you don't see aband called leach(?) all rock star bullshit and no substance we left after 3 songs, bar staff are cool especially the bar manager beer ace and as i said the enternainment on a sunday is second to none see you all down the front
pricey - 7 Mar 2005 15:33
One of Richmonds little gems.
In the growing number of bland roll out branded pubs, this mixture of old & new is refreshing.
It has plasma's, big screens, juke box. It shows all the sports from Rugby to Cricket and has pay per view football.
Live music on sunday nights are always a treat and it has some of the best Thai food I have ever eaten.
I don't get down much any more, but was there on the weekend and it is still the best pub in Richmond.
Tell them Jacky Brown sent ya!
jackybrown007 - 9 Feb 2005 17:28
I was walking past on a Sunday night. The music was so brilliant that I just had to go in for a drink with my friends. Great band!! The manager is very friendly and down to earth. One of the best pubs in Richmond if not the best.
mia - 26 Jan 2005 08:34
I'm definately going to this gaff when I get back in town. What a jewel in the crown that is the Richmond pub scene! Dave (ex-lot barman turned sand lovin soldier)
yourhardkorehero - 10 Jan 2005 10:53
This Pub is very female friendly with an superb range of wines and some of the best Thai food I have ever eaten.
My husband is a real ale man and is chuffed to see Hogs Back T.E.A. on offer at a decent price and very well kept.
Can get fairly loud in the evenings especialy on weekends.
Very handy if you want a pre theatre tipple.
anonymous - 2 Jan 2005 18:16
Great beers. Great staff. Great Thai. Great times.
When in Richmond its the only place to be seen.
Live music on the weekends always spices thing up.
Max

anonymous - 2 Jan 2005 18:06
The MUTTZ KNUTTZ kick ass. See them live on the 19th December
lozvegas - 7 Dec 2004 12:18
I met a few mates down here last weekend for the rugby. We left to watch the game then did a few pubs on the way back to the station.
Of all the pubs we visited, this one was the best. Great staff, (MY GOD, CHECK OUT THE AMERICAN) WOW.
Was busy and all were having a blast.
I would not bother doing a crawl of Richmond.
Head straight to the Racing Page.
I was informed that the Plasma Screen was a new addition.

anonymous - 23 Nov 2004 21:14
Yeah....its Fab!
milliemoo - 23 Nov 2004 21:14
This place has a great atmosphere for sports fans. Sunday night music is always fun here.
Maurice - 16 Nov 2004 11:49
A lively, loud and spirited pub without the awfulness of being like O'Neils. Barstaff are pleasant on the eye, which is just as well as the beer is not the best kept in the area. The Thai food is excellent, and well worth a visit if you're feeling peckish.
Mr Tall - 8 Nov 2004 00:16
The RacingPage is a haven for the discerning drinker and casual supper alike, and provides both anonimity when needed in those moments when only a pint and youre thoughts are required, and the sort of celebrity that can only be had dancing on a table on a sunday pissed out of your brain on good quality booze. cheers to the racing page , staff and punter alike.
Ryan Caine. - 3 Oct 2004 12:58
The bar staff are fit and friendly and really well trained.
Had drinks here many times with Noddy and always had a good time.
Veronica - 29 Sep 2004 19:19
Fantastic place!! The best Guinness outside Dublin, superb and authentic Thai food (recommended by the national press and a number of gastronomic websites!), top banana bar staff, massive TV, live music and even the landlord's quite a nice bloke!
Mark D - 25 Sep 2004 12:29
This is the best pub in the world! The staff are always friendly and efficient, the atmosphere is always rocking and the live music is always fab! I wouldn't drink anywhere else in Richmond.
Kirren Dharamsi - 25 Sep 2004 09:04
by far the best pub in richmond and one of the best in london. Good manager and staff.Past staff were a touch better but you know us aussie's have to move on.. Tom's thai is the best I have had what can i say but get down there for a good time.
Ryan Rogers (former ass manager) - 24 Sep 2004 19:01
Great pub, the best in Richmond by a mile. Friendly staff, good music, fantastic Thai food and definately a pub that I would go back to, which is a sure sign of quality.
Charlotte - 24 Sep 2004 17:12
First pub I experienced on arrival in the UK and is THE ONLY pub I frequent in Richmond. The staff are not only friendly, they serve you what you want, when you want unlike certain other pubs along the river.. The Bar is always spotless, the wine is always cold (great selection at good prices), the thai food is so good and so cheap you think you are in thailand, the boys say the beer is well kept and when there with a group of girls one night the manager sent us over a bottle of Bollinger.. you cant get much better than that.. I look forward to my next racing page experience!
Jf - 24 Sep 2004 17:06
I think quality has everything to do with it. If you put the comment in the context it was meant, that the beer is expensive, but in a well run establishment with well trained good mannered staff, you don't mind paying a bit more for it. I would also add that I wouldn't pay tuppence for a crap beer in a good venue!
janerankin - 24 Sep 2004 16:14
Hang on Zod.. So you are saying that the beer is more expensive in Richmond because it is higher quality??

Sounds nonsense to me. You would expect to pay more for a pint in Richmond for sure, but quality has bugger all to do with it.

TheGP - 24 Sep 2004 13:57
Great Pub. It does draught Bud AND San Miguel.....Brilliant. It is pricey but well worth it.The price seems to keep the shite out of the place. Thai is superb and the staff are very good...not bad on the eye either.
I don't know why people complain about price...there more to a pint than how much it costs!!!Don't drink in Richmond if you don't want to pay for quality.
Darren F - 17 Sep 2004 12:19
Superb Thai food, but eh bar is surprisingly expensive, even for Richmond.
Zod - 16 Sep 2004 17:01
Dropped in last week for the first time in a couple of months... what a mistake. Prices have gone up, every available spot has been filled with crappy little tables, atmospheres completely gone (as had the Stella).
If I wanted to go to an All Bar One I would. Crying shame because it used to be one of the best pubs in Richmond.
Martin_j - 10 Aug 2004 14:23
Reasonable, but nothing to shout out about - A typical overpriced Richmond pub, with not enough room to sit down in.
TheGP - 10 Aug 2004 14:03
Great live music. The Muttz Knuttz (Perivale) seriously kick ass.You must check these guys out. Keep rocking guys
matt - 23 Jul 2004 20:57
I love this pub.
The staff are great.
The food is fabulous.
Beer is pricey, but well kept.
Wine list is extensive and well priced.
Juke box has all my songs on it.
It is airconditioned. Try it on a weeknight when its not too busy and there are luvvies from the theatre hanging about.
Never met the landlord but he gives me a nod every time he sees me.
Megan Fraizer - [email protected] - 3 May 2004 11:21
Wow, what a night. Bank holiday Sunday and the pub was rocking.
Great band, cool staff.
Will be back next sunday.
janerankin - 3 May 2004 11:05
Fabulous pub, lovely food, the new Asst.Manager Rob(?) just oozes professionalism, one to keep hold of Management!! Very friendly, efficient and capable as are all the staff. Will def be back!!
Krissy - 30 Apr 2004 18:37

worse pub ive ever been in,the service was terrible and the manager was very abusive when i made a comment on the food.I have lived in Richmond for nearly 45 years and have never experienced such a bad pub.I wont return.
john - 24 Apr 2004 21:46
NESS - we're missing you too!

Update... yep still excellent.
Matt, Sam and the staff are great, Dougal's a dab hand with the spot the difference quiz machine, the thai's still top restaurant quality and rugby days are top quality entertainment. And there's no 16 year olds with wispy moustaches hoping to get served.

Roll on the next Karaoke!
Lex - 20 Apr 2004 18:23
Ahhhhhhh. So many happy days in here watching rugby. The Grand Slam, The "beat them in their backyard", the World Cup...

And the food rules, it's a tad pricey but considering there isn't a better thai restaurant in Richmond, who cares?

Matt runs a good pub, keeps the munchkins out, the beer cold and the staff warm and friendly.

Where else can you alwasy find a band playing every week for free?

But Matt? Do me a favour, sort out the jukebox! It's like an 80's throwback. :-P
Go_Panthers! - 7 Apr 2004 17:34
There's only ONE ......

THIS IS THE BEST PUB EVER - Best Staff - Best Food - Best Atmosphere. I hope everyone is really well and I miss you all HEAPS. Glad to be back in OZ but it doesn't make me miss you all any less.
P.S. Hey Matt - How bout them bombers - last on the ladder :-(

vanessa - 6 Apr 2004 14:21
Still rocking... top place to watch rugby, top staff, top company, top Thai food. It's the tops
avi - 24 Mar 2004 23:41
Sports orientated pud with horse racing frieze over the bar. Busy when you can't get tickets for Twickers. Enjoyed good pints of Fullers and Bombadier but England played crap-losing to the Irish
lout_from_the_lane - 17 Mar 2004 13:04
The chef here recently won best ethnic food in a pub at the Publican awards. Well deserved too!
Nikko - 3 Mar 2004 12:37
Best place to watch sport in Richmond, Thai food is fantastic.
Sadly I am movin away, its the only thing in Richmond that I will miss.
Matt and staff....thanks for the memories!
Milly - 26 Feb 2004 14:28
Well kept beer, friendly effecient service, good selection of tunes on the Juke Box. Being close the Theatre it does attract some celebs. Have seen quite a few in there recently.
Sorry Jody, this place is far better than Paradise...it has draught beer!
janerankin - 26 Feb 2004 14:21
This place has something for everyone, Sports on 2 TV's and a big screen, great looking well trained staff and some delicious Thai food. Also does live music on sunday nights and the occasional theme night. I was there to witness a Helium Karaoke party....BRILL!!!
Hats off to the guy who runs it!
M Patterson - 13 Feb 2004 21:18
One of the better town centre pubs in Richmond. Good service friendly staff. One of the first to do Thai in pubs and still one of the best.
janerankin - 13 Feb 2004 12:01
Must agree with Thomas on this one, this is just a town centre pub complete with all the associated rabble. Paradise is the place to go in Richmond
Jody - 12 Feb 2004 19:53
I too was there Sunday night and had a ball. The band was ace (Back to school band)played hits of 70's & 80's. Didnt see any skinheads or chavs in burberry!
There was plenty of good looking girls though!
Dave - 12 Feb 2004 18:36
Don't get it, I went in on Sunday night and found a pub full of skinhead louts and a band dressed as school children playing heavy rock far too loud. OK I'm a real ale drinker and I like to chill out but I'm not against live music, just I don't like to spend my time surrounded by gougers.
ThomasB - 12 Feb 2004 17:27
'Cultures collide with smooth abandon'??! TS Eliot you are not. Jesu, Richmond's about as cosmopolitan as Henley celebrating the Queens jubilee. The Racing Page is a serioulsy average pub, I don't know what everyone is going on about. If you like eating Thai food whilst watching the football you'll love it, but for me that's not what makes a pub special.
thenationofjames - 11 Feb 2004 13:52
What a great evening we had at The Racing Page. Really friendly staff (very good looking Bar man).Thai food was as good as everybody said. Can't reccomend it enough
bee - 10 Feb 2004 20:28
A slow walk down Duke St past pretty girls and dark alleys an Oasis features on the horizon...cool beer hot Thai.
Silhouettes and shadows gather in their throngs to ingest the delights of mondern England. Cultures collide with smooth abandon. Not your average!

janerankin - 6 Feb 2004 16:05
I love this pub. Me and my colleagues eat lunch here 3 to 4 times a week. Service is good and the Thai food is the best in London.
Long live The Racing Page!!!
Leslie - 6 Feb 2004 15:47
Alright but not brilliant, just another town centre pub really.
Pat - 5 Feb 2004 21:12
Went here to see what all the fuss was about. Dissapointed no food on Sunday nights, BUT...they had live music instead and the band was totally awesome. Apparently live music every sunday night to the same caliber. Will have to get there early next time to try the Thai food everyone raves about.
Well worth a visit.
janerankin - 2 Feb 2004 14:19
Good on a sunday night but come early as it can get packed!!
Alex - 2 Feb 2004 12:37
Brill place to hang, watch totty, booze about, read sunday papers. Wicked bloody mary.
NOOGMAN - 29 Jan 2004 17:45
I was out with a bunch of lads on the weekend and we stopped here after doing the pubs around the station. If it wasn't for this place we would have left Richmond and never came back. for an alleged up market town all was lost until we found this little gem. 3 good bitters, 3 good largers, and Bombay gin. All the staff were in uniform, looked good...espcially Rae!! Its nice to see some boozers stll have got what it takes to make a guy happy. Needless to say we stayed here all night. We all wil be back again. (see you then Rae!)
Gordon Wallis - 28 Jan 2004 11:27
Simply the best Pub in Richmond. Has all there is to offer, Good Thai food, big screen sports, best Guinness in town AND, the best looking girls behind the jump. Look no further, this place is heaven. Oh and its got the best jukebox and no under 21's to be seen...YE HA!
Si - 28 Jan 2004 10:36
Liked this pub. Good beer. Real Ale was superb. Best pub by far on Richmond expo 2004.
Best looking bar staff in town!
Jim - 22 Jan 2004 19:37
Had a great night there last week. The Thai food is wicked and it's really well run. Staff are very friendly, and cute too. Pours a bloody good pint of Guinness. Best place in Richmond to watch sport, eat and drink.Oh and they have live music on sundays....marvellous
anonymous - 22 Jan 2004 19:26
Seems to be a good pub. Had a poor evening in Richmond and this pub saved it. The O'neils was horrid and we left as we could not get served, the Slug and Lettuce was overpriced. So we came here and actually found it to be a very good pub. Nice atmsophere, drinks good and at a normal price. Recommend that you visit this rather than the other two.
Mike - 10 Jan 2004 11:24
Naturaly my favourite pub (who could have guessed). Great food, great company, great service, far too much fun had in one place!!! what more can I say? I miss you guys over here in Oz, but no doubt I'll see you soon.
Emily - [email protected] - 6 Jan 2004 00:12
Great pub to watch football in and some top thai food but get there early to get on the comfy seats.
sean - 6 Dec 2003 19:03
Pulls what must be the most expensive pint in the whole of Richmond (The pitcher and Piano aside, but we won't go there). One of the few pubs in Richmond, outside the Edwards/O'Neills axis of evil, where I have seen it kick off. Amongst 'grown up' Rugby players too, rather than the kids that look for trouble around said 'axis of evil'. But, having said all this, it has got Love's 'Andmoreagain' on the Duke box.
Good for: watching the football whilst straining to hear the dulcit tones of Arthur Lee.
thenationofjames - 27 Nov 2003 16:34
Would like to draw attention to Alex's legs. You need no other reason to go there. Top gaff!
JamesMorgan - 14 Nov 2003 11:36
Blows my bloody doors off. Highlights include:
- Really friendly staff including the irrepressible Josh (aka Spanky the Bar Star)and Matt the Landlord (decent fella and not afraid of karaoke)
- Thai food of a top standard
- It's got charm - t's not a carbon copy massive chain full of 16 year old snakebite quaffing trainee gangsters like some other places in Richmond
- Sunday Band nights are always a top night
-Rrrrrrugby on huge screen.

It's like my long lost living room. All I need now is for loyalty cards to be introduced

I've had several top nights at the Racing Page. Rugby was great - even though we lost :-( and the bacon sarnies are the best!

My favourite pub in London (area). Always a great place to watch the Rugby and the bar maids are always cute...
anonymous - 11 Sep 2003 23:16
This is by far the best pub in Richmond. It is always clean and serves fantastic thai. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The band on Sunday nights is fantastic and has prompted many Morning morning hangovers at work. 10/10 (but don't ask me on Monday mornings)
Miss Miller - 11 Sep 2003 18:08
Top pub. Great food. Manager is always welcoming and happy to have a chat and a beer with new punters. Big screen for all the sport you could ask for and a juke box filled with the best tunes in town. Get down there NOW! Tell 'em Wilbur sent you!
Wilbur - yes that Wilbur. - 11 Sep 2003 16:10
Went there for the first time the other night with a few mates and thought it was top. The landlord (Matt, I think) was dead friendly and even bought me a couple of 'welcome' beers as I said I was looking for a local since moving in to the area. Good beers, good people, they show all the footy games and there are live bands too apparently. Can't recommend it enough.
chopperbomb - 8 Sep 2003 17:45

My wife and I visisted this Pub last week. Initially we were dissapointed that it was no longer The Cobwebs and reluctetly entered. We were quite suprised to find it bright and airy and was quite busy with a well dressed clientel. The staff seemed well trained and the bitter(Charles Wells Spitfire) was exceptional. The wine list was small 6 reds and whites, but well thought out with a good slection of old and new world varietals. We had the Chablis with main course. The menu was Thai and we again were very suprised at the quality of the food. Fishcakes for starters were moist and flavoursome. The Green Chicken Curry was delightful. My only negative comment was the Mens toilets are a bit shabby, although my wife informed me the Ladies were like new. I was told by the Manager that they were undergoing some refurbishment. I look forwrd to my next visit to Richmonds' Racing Page. I will not let another 15 years pass before doing so.
Rupert & Mary Collins - 15 Jul 2003 09:02
I was in there watching the Mighty England crush the Aussies.
The Landlord,(an Aussie) lost a packet and was still smiling, even shook my hand a bought me a pint. Really good pub. Can't wait for the world cup. Its the only place I will be. Oh and the girls behind the bar are always babes!!!
Dave - 2 Jul 2003 18:05

J - 21 Feb 2003 14:21
You should check out a band that plays there a lot, called HJ21. Always a lot of fun - actually they're playing there on February 23rd, 2003.
Ben - 20 Feb 2003 12:14
tom's thai food is the best by far!!! (try #24, yum) and apart from all the aussie flag-waving (ahem, matt nicol...har har) there's a great atmosphere at the page. miss it terribly! needs more canucks behind the bar, eh!?
audrey - 1 Feb 2003 05:47

Gary - 16 Dec 2002 09:51
